A common method of determining the load on a truck is to perform weight mea-
surements and then compare the loaded and unloaded vehicle. The volume of the
load on a truck is often more important that its weight, however. This is particularly
the case for loads with an indeterminate moisture content, for example paper, coal
or wood, where a simple weight measurement can greatly falsify the result for the
actual load volume. Furthermore, the high demand for efciency accompanied by
increasingly stringent regulations calls for solutions that combine process reliability
and cost reduction in an ideal manner.

APPLICATIONS IN THE AREA OF VOLUME MEASUREMENT
Every load places different requirements on volume measurement.
Whether it be in the wood processing industry, in waste and recycling facilities, or in
mining: wherever trucks are used to transport goods, the LVM System is suitable for
determining both the volume of the existing load (load volume) and the remaining
volume. Thanks to the exible layout of the sensor, it is possible to implement a wide
variety of applications in the area of volume measurement.
Calculating the load volume of trucks
with a atbed load surface
For trucks with a atbed load surface, the LVM System reliably
detects irrelevant parts of the vehicle such as the cabin or
trailer and automatically excludes them from the load volume
calculation.

Calculating the remaining volume of
tipper trailers and walking oor vehicles
To optimally load tipper trailers and walking oor vehicles, the
LVM System determines the remaining load volume. When
optionally used in conjunction with an automatic number plate
recognition system, it is also possible to directly calculate the
load volume.
Calculating the load volume of
dump trucks
Dump trucks often drive in eets. The vehicles are identied
with the help of RFID and, when combined with the LMV
System, their load volume can be calculated and processed
directly.

Load Volume Measurement System SYSTEM ADVANTAGES
MEASURING LOAD VOLUMES INTELLIGENTLY
The LVM System comprises two portals onto which 2D LiDAR sensors have been mounted. Two sensors
track the position of the vehicle and, depending on the vehicle type, up to ve sensors scan its prole
and load. The vehicle is scanned as it passes through the portal and a 3D point cloud is generated
from the individually measured vehicle proles. As soon as the truck has left the measuring range, its
volume is calculated and made available to the customer within seconds.

Product description
The load volume measurement system
measures the load volume of truck
loads on atbed loading areas or the
remaining loading volume of dump
trucks in a single pass and without the
need for the vehicle to come to a stop.
Having precise data on load volumes is
especially important for loads with an
unknown moisture content, for example,
to determine the dry weight. The vehicle
is scanned up to 100 times per second
using eye-safe 2D LiDAR sensors. The
3D model created from the collected
measurement data serves as the basis
for calculating the load volume. The sys-
tem reliably identies irrelevant vehicle
parts and fasteners and excludes them
automatically.
