The recording capability of the Studio 8 is
not limited to 8 tracks. "Ping-
Ponging"/"Collapsing"/"Bouncing" allows you
to combine up to 7 tracks onto the remaining
blank track. You may even record additional
new material while bouncing tracks. (For
example, material recorded on tracks 1
through 4 can be collapsed to track 8.)
Many times, a way to improve your program
will become apparent as it is being recorded.
"Punch-in" gives you a way to add those last
minute ideas to your recording without redoing
the entire project. Punch-in can also be used to
correct any mistakes that made their way onto
the tape.

My 388 still works fine (as far as I can tell). I have an Alexis "Quadraverb" as my
effects generator and use a compressor in line with microphones. I also use 2 "Aural
Exciters" to make any input tape material more "life-like" as well as to spice up any
microphone vocals.
I did find a great repair facility in 1996 to fix a minor problem (turned out to be a bad
IC chip). It is J. Rudy Associates, 213-215 Grant Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15209
(412-821-4605). They had 44 full-time electronic technicians then (at any given week 10
of them were off for additional schooling).
