Shimano PD-1056 clipless pedal offers two release modes - choose either the single release mode or the multiple release mode. Single release mode requires twisting the heel outward to release the shoe, while multiple release mode allows for release in several directions: pulling the heel upward or diagonally upward, or twisting the heel outward. The retention force can be adjusted to suit your needs by turning the screw located at the underside of the pedal. The pedal has a click-stop for each 120° turn of the screw, allowing for precise adjustment of the retention force.
