Installation Guide:
STEP 1: Back up Data on the Device
IMPORTANT! The SP1 is only intended for the SoMo 650 currently running ROM
v1.00.04. If your device does not have v1.00.04, you will first need to 1upgrade to
this version.
You will be required to do a clean boot (cold boot) at the end of SP1 installation. If
you have any data on the device please ensure that you have backed it up before
you run the update.
1 Please refer to User’s Guide for instructions on upgrading the SoMo
4
STEP 2: Transfer the File to the Device
The file SoMo650SP1_build0003.cab.pks must be transferred to your SoMo 650.
You can do this by either of two methods:
Use ActiveSync to copy the file to the Temp folder on your SoMo 650
Copy the file to a SD/CF memory card and insert into your SoMo 650. The
SD/CF card must be formatted in FAT12 or FAT16. Most higher capacity cards
are formatted by default in FAT32, which is not supported. SDHC cards are not
supported in Windows Mobile 5.
Transferring the file with ActiveSync
1. Use the USB cable/cradle to create an active connection between the SoMo and
a host PC. Use ActiveSync 4.0 or greater or the Windows Mobile Device Center
for Windows Vista.
2. On the host PC, in the ActiveSync screen, click on the Explore button.
3. Double-click on My Windows Mobile-Based Device
5
4. Double-click on the Temp folder.
5. The Temp directory on the SoMo 650 will open.
6. On the host PC use My Computer or Windows Explorer to navigate to the
location of the SoMo650SP1_build0003.cab.pks file.
7. Copy and paste the file into the Temp directory.
6
STEP 3: Install the File
1. On the SoMo 650, open Pocket Explorer.
2. Navigate to the SoMo650SP1_build0003.cab.pks file, either in the Temp
folder if you used ActiveSync, or on the memory card.
3. Double-tap on the file to launch the upgrade process.
4. On your SoMo, a screen will report that updates must be validated. Tap
OK.
5. The next screen will report that the SoMo needs to report. Tap Update.
6. The SoMo will begin to install the update.
7
7. After installation, your SoMo will report that the updates were
completed successfully. Tap ok.
8
STEP 4: Verify the Upgrade Installation
Prior to going the final step you may want to ensure that the upgrade has
completed successfully.
1. On the SoMo, tap Start | Settings | System.
2. Tap System Info.
3. Under OS Version, check the ROM version. It should be 1.00.04 SP1 (build
0003)
9
STEP 5: Perform a Clean Reset
CAUTION: A CLEAN RESET IS MORE POWERFUL THAN A SOFT RESET. IT WILL DELETE FILES
AND FOLDERS WHEN YOU PERFORM A CLEAN RESET, FORMATS, PREFERENCES AND OTHER
SETTINGS INCLUDING DATE AND TIME ARE RESTORED TO THEIR FACTORY DEFAULTS. ALL
DATA, RECORDS AND ENTRIES, EXCEPT THOSE STORED IN ROM, WILL BE ERASED.
NOTE: If you set a security password on the SoMo 650 and forget the password, a clean
reset will remove the password setting.
1.
Press and hold the Left Programmable Application Button, the Calendar
and Contacts shortcut buttons on your SoMo 650.
2.
While holding the three buttons, using the tip of your stylus, lightly press
the Reset button inside the hole on the bottom of your SoMo 650.
10
It is recommended that you hold the SoMo 650 in your left hand. Press the
left programmable action button with your left thumb and the two
shortcut buttons with your left index and middle finger. Hold the stylus in
your right hand to press the reset button.
3.
Continue to hold the three until a splash screen appears with the Socket
logo and starts blinking.
4.
After the Socket Mobile Splash Screen starts blinking, release the three
buttons and follow the onscreen instructions.
Your SoMo 650 is now fully upgraded and ready to be put back into service.
