HiLite and VFI2 Visual Fault Identifiers
The HiLite and VFI 2 are compact but powerful visible red laser sources designed to
troubleshoot faults on fiber optic cables. Light generated by these units will escape from
sharp bends and breaks in jacketed or bare fibers, as well as poorly mated connectors.
They can identify faults in fiber optic jumper cables, distribution frames, patch panels, and
splice trays.
The HiLite and VFI 2 are an excellent complement to an OTDR because they can locate
faults inside the OTDR’s dead-zone. Other applications include end-to-end continuity
checks, identifying connectors in patch panels and fibers during splicing operations. The
universal connector interface provides fast operation with many connector styles without
changing an adapter.

Operating Instructions
The HiLite is a visible red laser source
designed to troubleshoot faults on fiber
optic cables. Attach a 2.5 mm ferrule
to the connector interface and press
the power button to activate the laser.
The HiLite is a registered Class II Laser Product. Always avoid directly
viewing the optical output.
Warning: The use of controls or adjustments or performance
of procedures other than those specified herein may result in
hazardous laser light exposure.
Maintenance
To replace the AAA battery, remove the screw on the back side of the
unit. Carefully pull the unit apart. Place the battery in the unit ensuring
that the + and - poles correspond with the poles that are printed in the
compartment. Replace the cover and tighten screw. Except for battery
replacement, there are no user serviceable parts or adjustments.
All service should be performed at the factory. The optical output should
be cleaned regularly with an optical grade cleaner.
