4-1. Selling Point Descriptions
(1) Vibration is greatly reduced thanks to the counter weight mechanism
There is a low-vibration counter weight mechanism in the Model CR 13VBY. Vibration is suppressed by
reciprocating the counter weight in a direction opposite to the plunger that reciprocates in forward and
backward direction. Thus the Model CR 13VBY can greatly reduce vibration experienced by the user during
cutting operation (about one third of the vibration level of the current Model CR 13VA).

(2) Fast cutting speed thanks to the high-power motor
The Model CR 13VBY can cut various construction materials efficiently thanks to the high-power motor whose
maximum output is over 1,300 W. The number of strokes is also increased to "0 to 3,000 min
-1
" (Model
CR 13VA: 0 to 2,800 min
-1
) for faster cutting speed.
(3) Speed selectable dial and switch trigger
The Model CR 13VBY is equipped with the electronic control circuit to adjust the cutting speed steplessly by
means of the dial and the switch trigger depending on working conditions and workpieces.
--- 3 ---
(4) Toolless blade detachable mechanism (Same as the Model CR 13V)
Recently, most saber saws on the market are equipped with a mechanism that requires no tool such as a
hexagonal wrench for mounting and removal of saw blades. The Model CR 13VBY is also equipped with such
a mechanism in order to replace the saw blade speedily.
[ Features of the toolless blade detachable mechanism ]
Easy to mount and remove the saw blade
The saw blade can be easily mounted and removed just by pressing the lever.
Stronger bolt
The Model CR 13VBY is equipped with the special bolt M5 that is stronger than the special bolt M4 of the
former Model CR 13V.
(b) Insert the saw blade all the way into the small
slit of the plunger tip with the lever pushing.
(c) Release the lever and pull back the saw blade two or three times by hand to check that the blade is
securely mounted. When pulling the blade, you will know it is properly mounted if it clicks and the lever
moves slightly.

< Maintenance of the toolless blade detachable mechanism >
After use, clean the toolless blade detachable mechanism with a brush for smooth functioning. In addition to
the regular maintenance, perform the following effective maintenance occasionally.
Cleaning the inside of the toolless blade detachable mechanism
Pull the rubber cap provided on the lever in the arrow direction as shown below. Then the rubber cap can be
easily removed from the lever. Remove dust from the inside of the blade holder by spraying air or the like.
Periodically lubricate around the blade holder with cutting oil.

Do not use any saw blade with a worn-out blade hole
The saw blade may come off if the blade hole is worn out. Replace such saw blade with new one. If the
new saw blade comes off even after replacement, the holder pin may be worn out. Replace the holder pin
with new one.
(5) Saw blade can be mounted in either direction, upward or downward
The Model CR 13VBY is convenient for cutting materials on the floor or near the wall, and also for plunge
cutting on plywood panels because the saw blade can be mounted in reverse.

<Plunge cutting on plywood panels>
Refer to the Handling Instructions
for detailed information about plunge
cutting on plywood panels.
(6) Swing cut mechanism
Cutting operation is selectable between smooth "straight cut mode" and efficient "swing cut mode" by
switching the change lever. When the swing cut mode is selected, the rear of the plunger (reciprocating shaft)
moves up and down along the slope of the counter weight in the gear case through the swing roller to
powerfully cut into a workpiece. The amount of rebound is less than the conventional orbital cutting, and soft
wood workpieces can be cut efficiently in this mode. Moreover, the swing cut mode is selectable even if the
saw blade is mounted in reverse. This is an innovative cutting mechanism. (Note that the swing cut mode is
not selectable if the saw blade is mounted in reverse for the Model CR 13VBY shipped to the U.S.A. and
Canada.)

(7) Dust-and water-resistant triple-sealing construction
The Model CR 13VBY has a triple-sealing construction to protect from a large amount of dust generated when
cutting construction materials such as autoclaved lightweight concrete panels and also from waste water when
cutting pipes.

It prevents dust from entering by way of the plunger (reciprocating shaft).

(8) Comfortable double-molded (elastomer and plastic) handle
The handle is slip-resistant and comfortably fits in the hand thanks to the double-molded construction
(elastomer and glassfiber reinforced polycarbonate). You can see the excellence especially when you operate
the Model CR 13VBY wearing working gloves.
(9) Durable double-molded (elastomer and plastic) front cover
The front cover is durable, heat-resistant and easy to operate thanks to the double-molded construction
(glassfiber reinforced polycarbonate at the front cover main body and elastomer at the front grip). The front
grip is far easier to hold than that of the former Model CR 13VA thanks to the new slender and comfortable
shape and slip-resistant elastomer for safer operation.

The cutting speed of the Model CR 13VBY is substantially higher than that of the current model. However, the
conventional high-speed steel blades may be easily broken in heavy applications such as house demolition. To
cope with this problem, the bimetal blades shown in the following table are provided as optional accessories. The
bimetal blades are tough and rarely break since they are made of two different types of steels by electron-beam
welding. A very hard steel called "DM05" (JIS SKH51 or equivalent molybdenum containing high-speed steel) or
"Matrix II" (JIS SKH56 or equivalent cobalt containing high-speed steel) is used at the cutting edges, and a flexible
spring steel is used for the blade main body. Thus the bimetal blades are remarkably stronger than the
conventional high-speed steel blades.

8-5. Cutting Operation for Long Blade Life
The service life of a saw blade may vary depending on the operating conditions such as the type of cutting
operation, pressing force, etc. Observing the following instructions can lengthen the service life of a saw blade, for
reference.
Heat generated in the cutting operation can significantly affect the service life of the saw blade. Continued cutting
operation with the cutting edge of the saw blade heated to red hot can decrease the hardness of the saw blade
because the cutting edge is annealed. The saw blade is then worn out in a short time and nothing can be cut.
The merits of moving the saber saw up and down are described below.
The seesaw motion of the saw blade can minimize heating.
The effective cutting length of the blade is longer than that of an ordinary cutting operation. Thus, the service
life of the saw blade can be lengthened and the cutting speed can be faster. Cutting wood in the same
manner can also make the cutting speed faster.
1
2
Application of undue force to the workpiece during the cutting operation can heat up the cutting edge of the saw
blade and the number of strokes can decrease, causing reduction of speed. Appropriate pressing force is about
4 to 5 kgf.
Do not apply undue force to the workpiece
