SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Read all of the instructions before using this appliance.

When using this appliance, always exercise

basic safety precautions, including the following:

1. Use this appliance only for its intended purpose as described in this use and

care guide.

2. This freezer must be properly installed in accordance with the

installation instructions before it is used. See grounding instructions

in the installation section.

3. Never unplug your freezer by pulling on the power cord. Always grasp the

plug firmly and pull straight out from the outlet.

4. Repair or replace immediately, all electric service cords that have become

frayed or otherwise damaged. Do not use a cord that shows cracks or

abrasion damage along its length, the plug or the connector end.

5. Unplug your freezer before cleaning or before making any repairs.

Note: If for any reason this product requires service, we strongly

recommend that a certified technician perform the service.

6. Do not use any electrical device or any sharp instrument in defrosting

your freezer.

7. If your old freezer is not being used, we recommend that you remove the

doors. This will reduce the possibility of danger to children.

8. After your freezer is in operation, do not touch the cold surfaces in the freezer

compartment, particularly when hands are damp or wet. Skin may adhere to

these extremely cold surfaces.

9. Do not refreeze foods that have been thawed completely. The United States

Department of Agriculture in Home and Garden Bulletin No. 69 reads:

“…You may safely refreeze frozen foods that have thawed if they still contain

ice crystals or it they are still cold - below 40˚F.”

“…Thawed ground meats, poultry, or fish that have any off-odor or off-color

should not be refrozen and should not be eaten. Thawed ice cream should be

discarded. If the odor or color of any food is poor or questionable, discard it.

The food may be dangerous to eat.”

“…Even partial thawing and re-freezing reduce the eating quality of foods,

particularly fruits, vegetables, and prepared foods. The eating quality of red

meats is affected less than that of many other foods. Use refrozen foods as

soon as possible, to save as much of its eating quality as you can.”

Parts and Features

Installing Your Freezer

Unpacking Your Freezer

1. Remove all packaging material. This includes the foam base and all adhesive

tape holding the freezer accessories inside and outside.

2. Inspect and remove any remaining packaging, tape, or printed materials

before powering on the freezer.

3. Check to be sure you have all accessories and parts stated in the Parts and

Features section.

Installation

• Your freezer is designed for freestanding installation only. It should not be

recessed or built-in.

• Place the freezer on a floor strong enough to support it fully loaded.

• When moving the freezer, never tilt it more than a 45-degree angle. This could

damage the compressor and the sealed system.

• If the freezer has been tilted more than 45-degrees, let it stand in an upright

position for at least 24 hours prior to plugging it into the power source. This

will allow the refrigerant to settle and reduce the possibility of a malfunction in

the cooling system.

• Plug the freezer into an exclusive, properly installed grounded wall outlet.

Do not under any circumstances cut or remove the third (grounding) prong from

the power cord. Any questions concerning power and/or grounding should be

directed toward a certified electrician or an authorized service center.

• After plugging the appliance into a wall outlet, allow the unit to cool down for

2-3 hours before placing food into the chest freezer.

Installation Limitations

• Do not install your freezer in any location that is not properly insulated

or heated (e.g. garage, etc.). Your freezer is not designed to operate in

temperatures below 55˚ Fahrenheit. Extreme cold ambient temperatures may

cause the freezer to not perform properly.

• Select a suitable location for the freezer on a hard, even surface away from

direct sunlight or heat sources (e.g. radiators, baseboard heaters, cooking

appliances, etc.). Direct sunlight may affect the coating and heat sources may

increase electrical consumption. Any floor unevenness should be corrected.

• Avoid locating the freezer in moist areas.

Leveling Your Refrigerator

• Your refrigerator has either casters or two leveling legs which are located in

the front corners of your refrigerator. If it has adjustable legs, after properly

placing your refrigerator in its final position, you can level your refrigerator.

• Leveling legs can be adjusted by turning them clockwise to raise your

refrigerator or by turning them counterclockwise to lower your refrigerator. The

refrigerator door will close easier when the leveling legs are extended.

Proper Air Circulation

• To ensure that your freezer works at the maximum efficiency it was designed

for, you should install it in a location where there is proper air circulation,

plumbing and electrical connections.

• The following are recommended clearances around the freezer:

Electrical Requirement

• Make sure there is a suitable power outlet (115 volts, 15 amps outlet) with

proper grounding to power the freezer.

• Avoid the use of 3-prong adapters or cutting off the third grounding prong in

order to accommodate a 2-prong outlet. This is a dangerous practice since it

provides no effective grounding for the freezer and may result in shock hazard.

Use of Extension Cord

• Avoid the use of an extension cord because of potential safety hazards under

certain conditions. If it is necessary to use an extension cord, use only a 3-wire

extension cord that has a 3-prong grounding plug and a 3-slot outlet that will

accept this plug. The marked rating of the extension cord must be equal to or

greater than the electrical rating of the appliance.

Freezer Features And Use

Operating Your Freezer

• Clean the interior surface with lukewarm water using a soft cloth.

• Once the freezer is in its proper place, plug it in an electrical outlet having

115 volts and 15 amps. The green “Power On” indicator light will turn on

and the red “Compressor On” indicator light will light up, indicating that the

compressor is in operation. The compressor light turns ON/OFF whenever the

compressor cycles ON/OFF.

Adjustable Temperature Control Knob (see fig. #1)

• Your freezer has one control dial for regulating the temperature. The

temperature control dial is located on the lower left hand corner. Your freezer

will automatically maintain the temperature level you select.

• The range of the temperature control knob is from position

“1” (the warmest) to “6” (the coldest). Initially, set the

temperature on “4.” The green “Power On” indicator light

will turn on, indicating that the freezer is in operation.

Wait 2-3 hours before placing food inside the freezer.

After using the freezer for 24 hours, adjust the freezer to

your desired setting.

• To stop the compressor, turn the temperature control knob to the OFF position.

Note: Turning the temperature control to the OFF position stops the compressor

and the cooling cycle but does not shut off the power to the freezer. To

shut off the power, the freezer must be unplugged from the wall outlet.

If the unit is unplugged, power is turned off, or you experience an

electrical outage, wait 3-5 minutes before restarting the unit. If you

attempt to restart before this time delay, the compressor will not turn on.

Large amounts of food will lower the cooling efficiency of the appliance.

If you choose to change the thermostat setting, adjust the temperature

control knob by one numerical increment at a time. Allow several hours

for the temperature to stabilize between adjustments.

Fast Freeze Switch (see fig. #1)

• The freezer is equipped with a Fast Freeze switch (orange), which will allow

you to quickly freeze food when you have added a lot of food at one time.

• The orange “Fast Freeze” lights up when the switch is turned to the

ON position.

• The switch overrides the thermostat and will make the compressor operate

continuously, lowering the cabinet temperature still further than the

thermostat setting.

• It is not necessary to adjust the thermostat setting when using the Fast

Freeze switch.

• Turn off the Fast Freeze switch once food has reached the desired temperature.

Note: Do not forget to turn off the Fast Freeze switch when not required.

Doing so will avoid unnecessary energy use.

• When loading the freezer, freeze only three pounds of fresh food per cubic

feet of freezer space at one time.

• Distribute packages to be frozen evenly throughout the freezer.

Food Storage Basket and Divider (see fig. #2)

• A freezer basket has been provided for better organization. The removable

basket (quantity varies by model) allows

you to store food more accessibly.

Remove the basket(s) if it is

not needed.

• To reach other packages in the

freezer, just slide the basket to

one side or lift it out.

• The removable divider can be removed by lifting it out if it is not needed.

The food divider helps to better organize your food.

Lock and Key (see fig. #3)

• Your freezer may have a lock and key feature to

secure the freezer (depending on the freezer model).

Close the lid and turn the key in a clockwise direction

to lock. Turn the key in the opposite direction to unlock.

Defrosting and Draining (see fig. #4)

• For the most efficient operation and minimum energy consumption, defrost the

freezer whenever the frost becomes 1/4" thick. Never use a sharp or metallic

instrument to remove the frost, as it may damage the cooling coils and will void

your warranty. Only use the plastic scraper that is provided. Do not use boiling

water because this may damage the plastic parts.

• Remove the frozen food from the freezer and place it in

a cooler to protect the food.

• Turn the temperature control to the OFF position and unplug

the unit. The green “Power On” indicator light will turn off.

• Remove the interior drain plug from the inside of the freezer.

• Place a tray beneath the exterior drain plug. Remove the

drain plug. This will allow the defrost water to flow out into

the tray. Defrosting usually takes a few hours. To defrost

faster, keep the freezer door open.

Note: Check the pan occasionally so that the water does not overflow.

• When draining is complete, wipe the interior of the freezer with a soft cloth and

replace the interior and exterior drain plugs. Plug in the power cord back into

the electrical outlet.

• Turn the Fast Freeze switch on for a minimum of two hours and then turn off.

• Reset the temperature control to the desired setting.

• Return the food to the freezer.

Food Storage Information

This freezer is designed for the long-term storage of freezer food. Storage time is

up to three months.

• The storage life of frozen foods varies and the recommended storage time

should not be exceeded. Follow package or container instructions for proper

food storage.

• Place frozen food into the freezer as quickly as possible after purchase.

• The freezer door is susceptible to breaking due to excessive frost buildup. Be

sure to defrost when the ice reaches 1/4" thick.

• Wipe containers dry and close containers tightly before storing to avoid

needless spills.

• Hot food should be allowed to cool before storing in the freezer. This will

prevent unnecessary energy use.

• When storing meats, keep in the original packaging or rewrap as necessary.

• Proper freezer storage requires correct packaging. All foods must be in

packages that do not allow the flow of air or moisture in or out. Improper

storage will result in odor and taste transfer and will result in the drying out of

the improperly packaged food.

• Packaging recommendations:

Plastic containers with airtight lids

Heavy-duty aluminum foil

Plastic wrap made from saran film

Self-sealing plastic bags

• Do not refreeze defrosted/thawed foods.

• It is recommended that the freezing date be marked on the packaging.

Normal Operating Sounds You May Hear

• Boiling water, gurgling sounds or slight vibrations that are the result of the

refrigerant circulating through the cooling coils.

• The thermostat control will click when it cycles on and off.

Proper Freezer Care and Cleaning

Warning! To avoid electric shock, always unplug your freezer before

cleaning. Ignoring this warning may result in death or injury.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Caution! Before using cleaning products, always read and follow manufacturer’s

instructions and warnings to avoid personal injury or product damage.

General Cleaning

• Turn the temperature control knob to the OFF position. Unplug the freezer.

Remove the food storage basket.

• Prepare a cleaning solution of 2 tablespoons of baking soda mixed with a

quart of warm water. Use a sponge or soft cloth dampened with the cleaning

solution to wipe down your freezer.

• The outside of the freezer should be cleaned with a mild detergent and

warm water.

• Dry the interior and exterior with a soft cloth.

• Wash the storage basket with a mild detergent solution and rinse well.

• Do not use harsh or abrasive chemicals, ammonia, chlorine bleach,

concentrated detergents, solvents or metal scouring pads. Some of the

chemicals may dissolve, damage and/or discolor your freezer.

• It is recommended that the unit be cleaned each time it is defrosted to help

keep the unit odor free and running efficiently.

Door Gasket

• Be sure to keep the door gasket (seal) clean and pliable to keep the unit

running efficiently and to ensure a proper seal.

• Clean the door gaskets every three months according to the General Cleaning

instructions above.

• Petroleum jelly applied lightly on the hinge side of the gaskets will keep the

gasket pliable and ensure a good seal.

Power Interruptions

• Occasionally, there may be power interruptions due to thunderstorms or other

causes. Unplug the power cord from the AC outlet when a power outage

occurs. Once power has been restored, re-plug the power cord back into the

AC outlet. If the outage is for a prolonged period, inspect and discard spoiled

or thawed food in the freezer. Clean the freezer before reusing.

Vacation and Moving Care

• For long vacations or absences, empty food from the freezer and turn the

temperature control knob to the OFF position. Unplug the freezer. Clean the

interior and exterior, including the door gaskets, according to the General

Cleaning instructions above. Prop the doors open so that air can circulate

inside, and to avoid the possible formation of condensation, mold and odors.

• When moving, remove all food from the freezer; turn the temperature control

knob to the OFF position. Unplug the freezer. Securely tape down all loose

items inside your freezer and tape the doors shut. Be sure to move the freezer

in the upright position. Do not move with the unit lying down. Possible damage

to the sealed system may occur.

Energy Saving Tips

• The freezer should be located in the coolest area of the room, away from

heat-producing appliances or heating ducts, and out of direct sunlight.

• Let hot foods cool to room temperature before placing in the freezer.

Overloading the freezer forces the compressor to run longer. Foods that freeze

too slowly may lose quality or spoil.

• Be sure to wrap foods properly, and wipe containers dry before placing them

in the freezer. This cuts down on frost buildup inside the freezer.

• The freezer basket should not be lined with aluminum foil, wax paper, or

paper towels. Liners interfere with cold air circulation, making the freezer

less efficient.

• Organize and label food to reduce door openings and extended searches.

Remove as many items as needed at one time, and close the door as soon

as possible.

Troubleshooting

Freezer does not operate

• Check that the thermostat control is not in the OFF position.

• Check if the freezer is plugged in.

• Check if there is power at the AC outlet by checking the circuit breaker.

• Wait for 30-40 minutes to see whether the freezer will start. The compressor

cycle must be complete to operate.

Food appears to be too warm

• The door is kept open too long or is opened too frequently.

• Allow time for recently added warm food to reach freezer temperature.

It is best to allow food to cool before placing in the freezer.

• Check the door gaskets for a proper seal.

• Check to see if the door is completely closed.

• The temperature control is set too warm. Adjust the temperature control knob to

a colder setting and allow several hours for the temperature to stabilize.

• A large amount of warm or hot food might have been stored recently.

Wait until the freezer has had a chance to reach its selected temperature.

• The freezer has recently been disconnected for a period of time.

Four hours are required for the freezer to cool down completely.

Food temperature is too cold

• If the temperature control setting is too cold, adjust to a warmer setting and

allow several hours for the temperature to adjust.

• The Fast Freeze switch is turned on. This causes continuous running of

the compressor and bypasses the temperature control. Turn off the Fast

Freeze switch.

Compressor turns on and off frequently

• This may be normal to maintain a constant temperature during high room

temperature and humid days.

• A large amount of food has been added to the freezer.

• Doors may have been opened too frequently or for an extended period of time.

• Check the door gasket for a proper seal.

• Check to see if the door is completely closed.

• Check the freezer compartment for blockage from frozen food packages,

containers, etc.

• The freezer does not have the correct clearances on either side for proper

air circulation.

• The freezer has recently been disconnected for a period of time. Four hours are

required for the freezer to cool down completely.

Moisture forms on the inside of the freezer walls

• Weather is hot and humid, which increases the internal rate of frost buildup.

This is normal.

• The door is slightly open.

• Doors may have been opened too frequently or for an extended period of time.

• Check the door gasket for a proper seal.

Moisture forms on the outside of the freezer

• The freezer door is slightly open, causing cold air from inside the freezer to

meet warm air from the outside.

The door will not close properly

• The freezer is not level.

• The gasket is dirty. Follow instructions in the “Proper Freezer Care and

Cleaning” section.

• The storage basket is out of position.

Popping or cracking sound when the compressor comes on

• This is normal. Metal components (e.g. hot water pipes) undergo expansion

and contraction. The sound will level off or disappear as the freezer continues

to run.

Vibrations

• Check to ensure that the freezer is level.

• The floor may be uneven or weak. The freezer rocks on the floor when it is

moved slightly. Be sure the floor can adequately support the freezer. Level the

freezer by putting wood or metal shims under part of the freezer.

• The freezer is touching the wall. Re-level the freezer and move it away from the

wall. See the “Installing Your Freezer” section.

Freezer has an odor

• The interior of the freezer needs cleaning.

• Foods that were improperly wrapped or sealed are giving off odors.

What is covered and for how long?

This warranty covers all defects in

workmanship or materials for a period of:

12 months for labor

12 months for parts (Functional Parts Only)

5 years for sealed system

The warranty commences on the date of item

purchase. Customer shall provide Haier with

proof of the date of purchase, brand, model

and serial number for verification prior to any

warranty service being provided.

EXCEPTIONS:

Commercial or Rental Use warranty

90 days for labor

90 days for parts

No other warranty applies

What is covered/Not covered?

1. The mechanical and electrical parts of the

appliance which serve the functional purpose of

this appliance are covered for a period of 12

months. This includes all parts except finish and

trim.

2. Manufacturing defects to the components of

the sealed system (e.g. hermetic compressor,

condenser and evaporator) are covered for a

period of 5 years from the date of purchase.

Any damages to such components caused by

mechanical abuse, improper handling or shipping

will not be covered.

3. The limited warranty does not cover any credit

or refund for any loss or injury caused by the

product or defects to the product including but not

limited to incidental or consequential damages.

What will be done?

1. Any mechanical or electrical part that proves

to be defective in normal usage during the

specified warranty period will be repaired or

replaced at Haier’s discretion.

If it is determined that repair is not appropriate or

replacement part is unavailable for repair, Haier

will exchange the product with a refurbished or

new product the same or similar to the original at

its discretion.

2. There will be no charge to the purchaser for

functional replacement parts and labor on any

covered items during the initial 12- month period.

Beyond this period, only the components of the

sealed system are covered, labor is not provided

and must be paid for by the customer.

Credit or Refund for products over 30 days past

Food loss for food spoiled as a direct result of

mechanical failure of the product or of any delay

in providing service, repair, replacement.

This limited warranty doesn’t apply to

refurbished product or unit purchased as/like

new or second-hand.

Installation de votre congelateur

Desemballage de votre congelateur

1. Retirez tous les materiaux d’emballage. Ceci inclus la base en mousse

ainsi que l’ensemble du materiel adhesif qui maintient les accessoires du

congelateur a l’interieur et l’exterieur.

2. Inspectez et retirez le reste d’emballage, de scotch ou de materiaux imprimes

avant de brancher votre congelateur.

3. Assurez vous que vous avez tous les accessoires et pieces cites dans la section

Pieces et Caracteristiques.

Installation

• Votre congelateur est concu pour etre installe sans encastrement. Il ne doit pas

etre place dans un placard.

• Placez votre congelateur sur une surface plane et solide qui pourra le supporter

une fois rempli.

• Quand vous deplacez votre congelateur, ne l’inclinez pas plus qu’un angle

de 45 degres. Si non ceci pourra endommager votre compresseur et le

systeme scelle.

• Si le congelateur a ete incline sur un angle de plus de 45degres, gardez le

dans une position verticale pour 24 heures minimum avant de le brancher.

Ceci permettra au refrigerant de se deposer et reduire la possibilite d’un defaut

de fonctionnement dans le systeme de refroidissement.

• Branchez le congelateur sur une sortie electrique exclue, installee proprement.

Ne coupez dans n’importe quelle circonstance la troisieme fourche du cordon

du secteur. Si vous avez des questions concernant la puissance et /ou la mise

a terre, priere de consulter un electricien certifie ou une personne authorise du

service de reparation.

• Apres avoir branche le congelateur sur la sortie electrique, permettez a l’unite

de refroidir pendant 2-3 heures avant de placer la nourriture dedans.

Limitations relatives a l’Installation

• Ne placez pas le congelateur dans un endroit qui n’est proprement isole

ou chauffe, (comme par exemple un gargage etc..) Votre congelateur n’est

pas concu pour fonctionner a des temperatures inferieures a 55 degres F.

Une temperature ambiante trop froide peut causer au congelateur une

fonction impropre.

• Choisissez un endroit convenable et placez le refrigerateur sur une surface

solide et plane, loin des rayons de soleil et des sources de chaleur (telles

que les radiateurs, les elements de chauffage a plinthes, les cuisinieres etc…)
