(8 x Sat-IF)
Single cable matrix
EXU 908
20510016

(DVB-S and DVB-S2 (HDTV), both polarisations
low band and high band from two satellites) and
terrestrial signals over a single cable to up to 8 receivers
Q

range of channels from both satellites is transmitted
Q
Single cable matrix with integral power supply unit for
the LNB supply
Q
Option to select horizontal/vertical, low band/high band,
satellite position A/position B and transponder independently
for each receiver
Q
Switching horizontal/vertical, low band/high band,
satellite position A/position B and transponder selection is
carried out in the matrix, controlled by the receiver with a
special DiSEqC
TM
command set to EN 50494
Q
For transponder selection, special tuner modules called SCRs
(Satellite Channel Routers) are incorporated in the matrix.
These convert the subscriber frequencies

Each receiver is assigned a xed subscriber frequency
(a twin receiver requires two subscriber frequencies)
Q
PIN code protection (must be supported by the receiver)
for protecting a subscriber frequency against unauthorised access
Q
Satis es the single-cable standard to EN 50494
Q
LNB remote feed via the horizontal low inputs. All other inputs are voltage-free
Q
Power-saving concept by standby mode (if all receivers are in “Standby” or “Off”)
Q
Short-circuit detection and signalling at the HF output during commissioning
Q
Overload detection and signalling at the remote feeding inputs during commissioning
Q
Constant SAT output level; AGC-controlled using the input level range
Q
Passive feeding in the terrestrial range (can be received even when the satellite receiver is switched off)
Q
Suitable EBC 10, EBC 13 and EBC 14 splitters are available for the single-cable system to split the signal at the input
when creating larger systems with multiple EXU 908 units
Q
For indoor installation
Single cable matrix 9 on 8
The special feature of the EXU 908 single cable matrix is that it allows operation of multiple receivers on a single cable.
For this purpose the matrix incorporates special tuner modules, called SCRs (Satellite Channel Routers).
These are controlled using special DiSEqC™ commands to EN 50494.
Each SCR converts its input signals so that the selected channel lies in the centre of its associated band pass.

System requirements
Q
The receivers that are connected (e.g. UFS 821, UFS 712 etc.) must control the single-cable mode (SDU and/or MDU) to
EN 50494. Receivers without single-cable mode to EN 50494 cannot operate in conjunction with the EXU 908; they interfere
with the operation of the system.
Q
The cabling must use splitters (e.g. EBC 10/13/14) and sockets (e.g. ESU 33/34) that are suitable for single-cable operation.
If a receiver that is connected has no polarity reversal protection, the sockets or splitters that are used must incorporate
this feature (diode decoupling). The end of the loop-through input must be terminated with a suitable DC-decoupled 75
resistor (e.g. ERA 14).
936.3253/A/0509/3.6e
The unit described is intended solely for the installation of satellite receiver systems.
• Any other use, or failure to comply with these instructions will result in voiding of warranty cover.
• The unit may only be installed in dry indoor areas. Do not mount on or against highly combustible materials.
• The unit must be provided with an equipotential bonding cable (Cu, at least 4 mm
2
).
• The safety regulations set out in the current EN 60728-11 and EN 60065 standards must be complied with.
• Fixings: Wood screws, max Ø: 4.5 mm
• Connector: HF plug 75 (series F) to EN 61169-24.
Unused subscriber ports should be closed off with 75 Ω resistors (e.g. EMK 03).
Current-carrying unit
• Do not open or tamper with the unit!
• When working on the system always unplug the mains plug from the wall socket!
• Ensure adequate clearance! Clearance all round at least 5 cm!
• The unit must not be mounted on the ceiling.
• Free circulation of air must be ensured, to discharge the heat emitted by the unit. Risk of overheating!
• Permissible ambient temperature -20 to +55°C
Attention:
• No liquid- lled items may be placed on top of the power supply unit.
• The power supply unit must not be exposed to dripping or splashing water.
• The mains plug must be easily accessible and operable.
• The only reliable method of disconnecting the unit from the mains is to unplug it.
Installation and safety instructions
Installation steps
1 Drill the assembly holes on a at surface. These should suit the intended mounting position!
2 Mount the unit using four screws (diameter max.: 4.5 mm). Allow the two upper screws to project 6 mm and hang the unit
from them. Then insert the other two screws and tighten all the screws.
3 Perform potential equalisation in the correct manner.
4 Prepare the cables in accordance with the system con guration and connect them.
5 Commission the unit by connecting the mains supply.
Commissioning the system
Shortly after the mains supply has been connected, the unit will perform short-circuit detection at the HF output.
If the DC resistance is < approx. 110 , this is signalled by the LEDs (the orange LED will ash).
Furthermore the unit will attempt to switch on the remote feeding. If this fails, this too will be indicated by the LEDs
(orange LED will ash in pulses).
If the unit displays either of these fault, disconnect it from the mains and investigate the reason for the low resistance cable.
After trouble-shooting and recti cation the unit can be commissioned again by restoring the mains supply.
If the EXU 908 now shows no fault indications, the entire system can be tested with the receivers that are to be used.
Note:
Q
If a receiver is connected to the system despite a “Short circuit” indication being displayed, there is a risk of damage to the
receiver, the termination resistor(s) or the splitter boxes.
Q
If one or both of the two remote feeding cables fails, the internal fuse will disconnect both cables.
• If the inner cable conductor diameter
is greater than 1.2 mm or in case
of burr, the device sockets may be
destroyed.
Diameter 0.6-
1.2 mm free of
burrs
Max. 2 mm excess
length
Clamping torque max.

Note:
Particular care should be taken to ensure that each frequency available at the output of the single cable matrix is assigned
only once, since otherwise the receivers will generate mutual interference.
By de nition the system is designed so that single-cable devices are supplied with 14 V DC. The power supply is brie y
switched to 18 V DC if control signals similar to DiSEqC™ have to be transmitted. Continuous application of 18 V would
block the system. For this reason we recommend the use of ESU 33/34 sockets, which are equipped for switching off
electronically.
The receivers that are connected must be designed for single-cable operation to EN 50494.
An example of a DiSEqC™ command in single-cable mode is: (ARD – Astra-Highband SCR0) E0105A0D35.

Commissioning the receiver
Each receiver must be assigned uniquely to a single SCR.
Thus a twin receiver occupies two SCRs. The addresses of the SCRs start at 0 which is assigned to the SCR with the lowest
frequency. Assignment can be performed automatically or depending on the receiver also manually by the user.
If the receiver supports the PIN facility, an SCR can be protected against unauthorised access by assigning is a PIN code
(see table on the next page).
A receiver with the correct PIN code cannot suffer interference from a receiver that has no PIN code or the wrong PIN code.
PIN codes should be kept con dential.
To assist in assigning the SCR uniquely, the enclosed stickers should be applied to the receivers and antenna sockets.
