Logging In to the Switch
To log in to a switch through Telnet, do the following:
1. Open a command line window on the workstation and enter the Telnet
command followed by the switch IP address. The IP address can be one of
the following:
î‚„ 4-byte IP version 4 address
î‚„ 16-byte IP version 6 address
î‚„ Domain Name System (DNS) host name (requires a DNS server)
The Telnet window opens prompting you for a login.
# telnet ip_address
2. Enter an account name and password. The default account name is admin,
and its password is password.
The Telnet window opens prompting you for a login to the primary CPU
blade. Enter an account name and password. The default account name is
admin, and its password is password.
CPU0 login: admin
password: xxxxxxxx
The following warning appears when you log in for the first time:
Warning: Your user account password has not been changed
It is strongly recommended that you do so before
proceeding
To log off, enter the Exit command:
SANbox #> exit
If the switch detects a fault, the CLI prompt will include the number of faults. A
fault is an event that may require assistance from your authorized maintenance
provider.

A
To log in to a switch through the serial port, do the following:
1. Configure the workstation port with the following settings:
î‚„ 9600 baud
î‚„ 8-bit character
î‚„ 1 stop bit
î‚„ No parity
2. Enter an account name and password when prompted. The default account
name is admin, and its password is password.
Opening and Closing an Admin Session
The command line interface performs monitoring and configuration tasks.
Commands that perform monitoring tasks are available to all user accounts.
Commands that perform configuration tasks are available only after entering the
Admin Start command to open an Admin session. A user account must have
Admin authority to enter the Admin Start command.
The following is an example of how to open and close an Admin session:
SANbox #> admin start
SANbox (admin) #>
.
.
.
SANbox (admin) #> admin end
NOTE:
A switch supports a combined maximum of 19 logins or sessions, which are
reserved as follows. Additional logins will be refused.
î‚„ 4 logins or sessions for internal applications such as management
server and SNMP
î‚„ 9 high priority Telnet sessions
î‚„ 6 logins or sessions for Enterprise Fabric Suiteâ„¢ 2007, QuickToolsâ„¢,
Application Programming Interface (API) , and Telnet.
