Dear valued customer,
Thank you for purchasing the Royal 3-way absorption cooler. We hope you will enjoy using this high-quality product. It will
be an ideal camping companion for cooling your beverages, refreshments and food.
Important safety advice for proper use:
This cooler is most energy efcient when operated in gas mode.
In order to save energy this cooler should only be used temporarily in 220-230V mode
– e.g. to pre-chill beverages and food.
WARNING:
The use/operation of this fridge in gas mode should only be undertaken in the open air. The use/operation in
gas mode in closed or poorly ventilated areas is extremely dangerous and should not be undertaken in any
circumstances.
To be used only in a well-ventilated area, above ground and protected from rain.
This appliance shall be installed according to the rules in force.
The use in gas mode is prohibited INSIDE tents, particularly those with fully sewn in groundsheets. In the case of caravans
and mobile homes gas should only be used where fumes can be adequately ducted away from the living area.
The operation in the tent annexe/living area is only permitted if it is totally open and very well ventilated.
The cooler should NEVER be operated on the groundsheet.
Never store the liquid gas bottle in non-ventilated areas, at/or below ground level and always keep the bottle out of direct
sunlight. The temperature should never exceed 50˚C at any time.
Please note that the operation of the cooler in electric mode (12V and 230V) is permitted in closed rooms and is

1. Starting and Cleaning
1.1 Installation
Place the cooler rmly on the ground or use an appropriate base. Position
the appliance by means of the level indicator situated next to the controls.
When the small bubble is visible in the medium ring the cooler is placed in
the exact horizontal position (Fig. 1).
The minimum distance between the rear of the cooler to a wall must be 10cm
in order to guarantee sufcient ventilation. Avoid placing the cooler in direct
sunlight or close to any source of heat. Never cover the ventilation slots on
the upper side of the cooler in order to guarantee good air ventilation. This is
important for achieving best cooling performance.
1.2 Cleaning
Before rst use, after defrosting or following a long period of non-use, clean the cooling compartment and the lid with
lukewarm soapy water. Do not use any abrasive detergents. Dry the surface after cleaning. The gasket of the lid should only
be cleaned with clean water. For best results keep fridge and apertures clean and dry at all times.
Useful Hints:
Do not pour/put any liquids directly into the cooling compartment but store all food and beverages in closed containers and
bottles.
2. Operation with 230V AC mains supply
Before connection and operation verify that the mains voltage corresponds
to the operating voltage of the cooler specied on the ratings label at the
back of the appliance.
If the electrical specications are correct, plug the safety connector into the
back of the cooler and the 3-pin BS plug into an earthed wall socket, which is
wired according to the ruling regulations (Fig. 2).
Under the small ap on the top of the cooler are two knobs. The left knob
with the marking ‘Min Cold’ and ‘Max Cold’ serves for switching on the unit
when operating with 230V mains supply.
Turn the knob clockwise to position ‘Max Cold’. After about one hour the
cooling effect becomes noticeable and the temperature can then be adjusted
by means of the thermostat knob (Fig. 3).
At rst use leave the thermostat knob for approx. 5 hours at the ‘Max Cold’
position, afterwards set the temperature at a medium/interim level.
At ‘Min Cold’ position cooling function is turned off.
For turning off the appliance completely disconnect the plug from the wall
socket.

3. Operation with 12V DC supply
A safety fuse must be installed in the power supply between the battery and
the cooler (for 12V max. 15A).
Before use verify if the voltage of the battery complies with the voltage
indicated on the rating label on the back of the cooler. If the electrical
specications are correct plug the 12V connection cable into the back of the
cooler and then into the 12V socket/cigarette lighter of your vehicle (Fig. 4).
When the cooler is powered by a car battery, only switch the cooler on while
the car is running. If the appliance remains switched on when the car is
stopped, the battery will be discharged and it may be impossible to restart
the engine.
When operating at 12V the temperature cannot be regulated by the
thermostat knobs. For switching off the cooler disconnect the 12V
plug from the socket.
Useful Hints:
It is recommended to pre-cool the cooler before starting a journey on mains supply and to put only pre-cooled goods inside.
This guarantees a more efcient cooling performance.
4. Operation with Gas
When connecting the cooler with gas do not use any other energy source at
the same time (230V mains supply or 12V DC supply).
It is not allowed to connect natural gas or town gas; it is only suitable for
Butane/Propane gas.
The rating label on the back of the cooler indicates the gas pressure in mbar.
An appropriate regulator has to be installed between gas bottle and cooler.
Before connecting the cooler to the gas bottle make sure that the valve of
the gas bottle is closed. Always use an approved gas hose required by the
national conditions. The exible hose connecting the appliance to the gas
container is to be no longer than 1.5m (regulator and hose are not supplied)
(Fig. 5). Ensure the position of the hose ensures it is not subject to twisting.
Should the National conditions require it then the type of connecting hose
must be changed to ensure compliance with such local regulations.
Only connect the cooler to a gas bottle in well-ventilated areas, away from
inammable material. Stay away from heat sources and open ames. Do not
obstruct the ventilation opening of the container compartment. Precautions
should be taken to ensure when changing the gas container, that it shall be
carried out away from a source of ignition. Precautions shall be taken to
comply with national regulations relating to the operation of gas appliances
whilst the vehicle is in motion.
Check the tightness of the connections with soapy water. In the case of soap
bubbles appearing after opening the valve of the gas bottle, do not operate
the cooler. Only use the gas bottle standing upright and at least 1 metre away
from the burner.
Under the small ap on top of the cooler are two knobs. The right knob with
the marking ‘Press’ and ‘Max’ serves for switching on the unit when operating
on gas.
This control knob is a combination of ignition and temperature control
(Fig. 6).

Open the valve of the gas bottle, push in the right hand control knob on
the cooler and keep it pushed for approx. 20 seconds (in order to get the
air inside the gas system removed). With the button still pushed in turn the
knob anti-clockwise to the max position to to get the gas ame ignited by a
spark.
Make sure that a ame is visible at the burner (Fig. 7), wait for another 15
seconds until the red needle on the gas gauge is visible and then release the
knob (Fig. 8).
It is possible that this procedure needs to be repeated a couple of times,
especially when the cooler has not been in use for a long period of time.
Wait some minutes between every ignition. The cooler is equipped with
a safety pilot. In case the ame goes out the gas supply will be stopped
automatically.
For switching off close rst the valve of the gas bottle and then turn the gas
control knob off by turning it clockwise as far as it will go.
Useful Hints: Put food and beverages in an appropriate container inside the
cooler and store them in a way so that the air can circulate freely. Do not put
warm or hot food and beverages inside the cooler.
5. Maintenance and Storage
The build-up of ice inside the cooler decreases the cooling performance. To remove the ice do not use any sharp objects but
switch off the cooler and defrost it. It is recommended to defrost the cooler regularly. In case the appliance is not in use for
a long period of time, disconnect from any source of power or gas and leave the lid slightly open in order to let air circulate
inside the cooling compartment.
A handy tip: If after such a period the cooler does not cool down, switch off again leave it turned upside down. Make sure
that the connection cables are disconnected. After 2 to 3 hours put it upright again, re-connect and switch on. If there still
should not be any cooling function repeat this procedure.
Important Hint: Maintenance and repairs, especially on the cooling aggregate and on the gas burner can only be done by
qualied service engineers.
