Turn the camera on
This section explains how to turn on the camera in shooting mode.

Shooting still pictures
Set the mode dial to anything except n and press the shutter button lightly (halfway).
The green lamp lights when the focus and exposure are locked (focus lock). Now
press the shutter button all the way (completely) to shoot a picture.
Locking the focus and then composing the shot
(Focus lock)
Compose your picture with the focus locked, and then
completely press the shutter button to shoot a picture.
When the green lamp blinks, the focus is not adjusted
properly. Try locking the focus again.

Recording movies
Set the mode dial to n, and lightly press the shutter button to lock the focus, and then
press the shutter button completely to start recording. Press the shutter button again
to stop recording.
Switching to the shooting mode.
If the camera is not on, pressing K can turn on the camera in the shooting mode.

Switches to the playback mode and the last picture taken is displayed.
Press the arrow pad to view other pictures.
Use the zoom lever to switch among close-up playback, and index display.
Information display that is displayed for 3 seconds during single-frame playback can
be cleared by pressing A.
If the camera is not on, pressing q can turn on the camera in the playback mode.

Set the mode dial and shoot pictures.
Details of selected mode, other than the f and g mode which are
displayed for 3 seconds can be cleared by pressing the A.
The camera determines the optimum settings and shoots the picture.
This function reduces the blur caused by a moving subject or camera movement when
taking pictures.
You can shoot pictures with the appropriate settings for portraits, landscapes, night
and portrait.
You can shoot pictures by selecting from 10 types of scenes according to the situation.

You can set the targeted items by following the shooting guide displayed on the
screen.
Audio is recorded with the movie.
During audio recording, only the digital zoom can be used. To record the movie with
the optical zoom, set [MOVIE W/ SOUND] to [OFF].

The scene mode selection screen displays
sample images as well as a description of the
shooting situation for which it is designed.
To switch scenes after selecting a scene,
press m and select [f] from the top
menu. The selection screen is displayed.
By switching to another scene, most settings
will be returned to the default settings of each
scene.

% SUPER MACRO This mode lets you shoot from as close as 5 cm/2.0 in. from your
subject. Zoom position is automatically set and cannot be
changed.

Press NY in shooting mode to select on and off of the self-timer.
Press i for setting.
After setting the self-timer, press the shutter button completely. Then the self-timer
lamp lights for approximately 10 seconds, blinks for approximately 2 seconds, and
the shutter is released.
To cancel the self-timer, press NY.
Self-timer shooting is automatically canceled after one shot.
Press Y# in shooting mode to select the flash mode.
Press i to set it.
In playback mode, select the picture you want to erase, and press S.
Once erased, pictures cannot be restored. Check each picture before erasing to
avoid accidentally erasing pictures you want to keep. g0 Protecting pictures”

Still picture image quality and their applications
Movie image quality
Panorama shooting lets you create a panoramic picture, using the OLYMPUS Master
software on the provided CD-ROM. An Olympus xD-Picture Card is required for
panorama shooting.

Menu operations
Use the arrow pad to specify at which edge you want to connect the pictures; and then
compose your shots so that the edges of the pictures overlap. The part of the previous
picture where it will be joined to the next picture does not remain in the frame. You
have to remember what the part in the frame looked like and take the next picture so
it overlaps.
•Press A to exit panorama shooting.
Up to 10 panorama pictures are taken. After 10 pictures, a warning symbol (g) is
displayed.
When activated [ON], the camera will record about 4
seconds of audio after the picture is taken.
When recording, aim the camera microphone at the source
of the sound you want to record.
When [ON] (sound is recorded) is selected, the optical zoom cannot be used during
movie recording. Only the digital zoom can be used.
It restores shooting functions to their factory default settings.
