FLUSHING AND LUBRICATION 0
GENERAL
Flushing the cooling system with fresh water is
essential to neutralize corroding effects of salt or
other chemical products present in water. It will
help to clear sand, salt, shells or other particles in
water jackets (engine, exhaust manifold, tuned
pipe) and/or hoses.
Flushing should be performed when the boat is
not expected to be used further the same day or
when the boat is stored for any extended time.
CAUTION: Failure to flush cooling system, when
necessary, will severely damage engine and/or
exhaust system. Never flush a hot engine. Make
sure engine operates during entire procedure.
PROCEDURE
For flushing procedure perform following steps 1
and 3. For complete flushing and lubrication pro-
cedure perform all four steps.
1. Flushing at pump or at engine compartment lo-
cation (choose one of both method).
2. Engine lubrication.
3. After flushing procedure.
4. Cylinder wall lubrication.
Flushing Procedure
Use of the Lower Flushing Connector
1. Clean jet pump by spraying water in its inlet and
outlet and then spray a soapy solution.
2. Connect a garden hose directly to the flushing
connector, as shown in the next photo. To pre-
vent water leak, ensure the rubber washer is in
the boat connector.
1. Pump support flushing connector
2. Garden hose
NOTE: A quick connect adapter can be used to
ease garden hose installation.
1. Screw this quick connect adapter to the garden hose
2. Screw this adapter (P/N 295 500 473) to the boat flushing
connector
TYPICAL
1. Garden hose installed
2. Quick connector adaptor
WARNING
Perform this operation in a well-ventilated ar-
ea. Do not touch any electrical parts or jet
pump area when engine is running.
WARNING
Always remove safety lanyard cap from DESS
post to prevent accidental engine starting, be-
fore cleaning the jet pump area. Engine must

around 3500 RPM.
To complete flushing procedure perform Engine
Lubrication and After Flushing Procedure as de-
scribed hereinafter.
If boat needs to be stored a few days or a long
period, perform Cylinder Wall Lubrication as de-
scribed hereinafter.
Use of the Upper Flushing Connector
The engine can also be flushed from the flushing
connector that is located on the edge of the en-
gine compartment, as shown in the next photo.
1. Upper flushing connector
For proper flushing from this location, it is neces-
sary to prevent water from going out directly by
the flushing connector on the transom.
1. With engine cover opened, remove storage
tray.
2. Install a hose pincher (P/N 529 032 500) on the
hose between both T-fittings as shown in the
next photo.
