Instruction manual for the BM
50-b
Babvfon@
1
.General
Congratulations!
With your new
Babyfor@
you have purchased an appliance of the latest technical standard. As a quality product, it complies with
all national and European licence regulations.
Your
Babyfor@
is designed so that you can monitor your baby, without causing it any harm whatsoever. The radio transmission
enables you to move freely around your house or garden within its range.
The use of a
Babyfor@
cannot replace, but only support personal supervision of a child or person in need of care.
Babyfon@
points out that it does not accept any responsibility whatsoever not covered by legal guarantee regulations.
This applies in particular to this
Babyfon@
being used for medical purposes for which it is not intended.
Besides performing its basic function, your BM 50 P BabyfonB has the following features:
Pilot signal technology
To prevent interference, the BabyfonB transmitter emits an inaudible, coded signal as soon as it is activated. Only when this
signal is received does the receiver switch itself on, thereby preventing the reception of external radio transmissions.
This makes interference from other baby surveillance systems, for example, impossible.
40
MHz/
2 transmission channels
Interference by CB transmitters is impossible due to the 40 MHz frequency range used. Even if your neighbour has the same
BabyfonB model, your appliance will be protected from interference by the
2-channel
technology.
Battery status indicator
In order to increase the functional efficiency of the Babyfor@ the status of the battery or battery pack is constantly checked
and indicated. Only when the red lamp lights up is functionality no longer guaranteed.
Variable sensitivity
In order to ensure optimal adaptation to your everyday life / surrounding noise, you can determine the switch-on threshold of
the BabyfonB. Depending on your individual requirements, the transmitter can be activated by slight noises or only from a
higher level of noise.
Battery pack charge function
The receiver is equipped with an integrated battery pack charge function for the safe charging of your battery packs.
No electro-smog
Due to the extremely low radiation of max.
lOmW,
there is no question of electro-smog from this appliance being a health
hazard for your child according to current scientific knowledge. Nevertheless, we recommend a safety distance of
1
m between
your baby and the
Babyfor@).
Never place the transmitter in the cot or playpen. The functional efficiency of the BabyfonB is
not affected by the safety distance. Radiation is additionallly reduced by the fact that the BabyfonB does not transmit
permanently but only when there is actually a sound in the nursery.
Electra-smog from battery pack/battery operation is prevented by low frequency rays, so there is no danger to your child from
electro-smog caused by the
Babyfor@.
In AC adapter operation electromagnetic rays exist as a matter of course. You can reduce these to a level generally
recognised as safe by ensuring that the safety distance of approx.
1
m between your baby and the BabyfonB is adhered to and
that there is also a distance of at least a further 50cm between your baby and the socket.
Please read the following information carefully to familiarise yourself with all the possibilities provided by your new appliance and
its correct operation.

3.1. Putting into operation with AC adapter:
The receiver of the BM 50 P is equipped a battery pack charge function which is automatically activated when batteries are
inserted in the battery compartment and the AC adapter is connected to the power supply.
N.B.:
It is essential that you determine whether there are battery packs or batteries in the battery compartment of the receiver before
connecting the AC adapter to the mains. If there are non-rechargeable batteries in the battery compartment of the receiver, you
must remove them, otherwise your appliance will be destroyed in mains power supply operation. You can leave rechargeable
batteries in the compartment where they will automatically be charged. If you have any doubts about the type of battery or battery
pack, you can also operate the appliance with an empty battery compartment.
(A) Transmitter
1.
Place the transmitter at a distance of at least
1
metre from the person to be monitored.
2.
Connect the power supply lead to the socket (Al) provided on the back of the transmitter. Then plug the AC adapter into a
mains socket (230 V
I50
Hz).
3.
Check the channel selector switch (A3).
The transmitter and receiver must be set to the same channel
(
“A”
or “B”), otherwise no transmission will take place.
4.
Now switch on the transmitter (A2). The power-on/transmission indicator (A4) lights red briefly and then changes to green,
signalling that the appliance is ready to operate. When the transmitter is activated by a noise, this indicator (A4) lights red
constantly for the duration of the transmission. This signals transmission operation.
5.
The transmitter (A) is now ready for operation.
(B) Receiver
1.
Connect the power supply lead to the socket
(Bl)
provided on the back of the receiver. Then plug the AC adapter into a mains
socket (230 V I50 Hz).
2.
Check the channel selector switch (B3).
The transmitter and receiver must be set to the same channel (“A” or “B”), otherwise no transmission will take
ptace.
3.
Now switch on the receiver (82). When the appliance is ready to operate the power-on/reception indicator
(84)
lights green.
4.
To ensure safe functioning, the minimum volume is set ex factory to approx.
l/4
of the maximum volume. You can increase the
volume as required.
3.2.

-
14 hours.
4.
When charging is completed, you should disconnect the appliance from the mains power supply.
Please note that your battery packs do not reach full capacity
unit1
they have been charged three times.
3.4. Range
In view of the physical diffusion characteristics of radio waves, you should determine the range of your Babyfor@ in your
surroundings. To do so, you can, for example, place a radio in front of the BabyfonB transmitter. When you can hear the transmission,
take the receiver to the area where you require perfect functionality. In optimal conditions the range should be up to 300 metres.
However, please bear in mind that any solid structure (walls, ceilings, etc.) may reduce the range.
3.5.
Channel selection
With your BM 50 P BabyfonB the signal can be transmitted by two channels (“A” or “B”). If the sound reception is bad, try the other
channel: switch both the channel selection switch (A3) on the transmitter and the channel selection switch
(83)
on the receiver to
the other channel. Make sure that the channel selection switches on the transmitter and receiver are both in the same position.
Only then can transmission take place.
3.6.
Sensitivity
I
Volume
You can set the response sensitivity of the transmitter and the volume of the receiver of your BM 50 P
Babyfon@:
turn the
sensitivity control (A2) on the transmitter to the required microphone response sensitivity. The higher the sensitivity is set, the
sooner the transmitter starts to transmit when your baby makes a sound. You can also regulate the volume of the signals received
using the volume control (B2) according to your surroundings.
4. Trouble-shootinq:
Problem:
No function
No transmission
Solution:
1.
Check the power supply (battery pack/AC adapter) of the transmitter and receiver.
1. Reduce the distance between the transmitter and the baby, maintaining the minimum
distance of 1 metre.
Interference/poor transmission:
Whistling noise (feedback):
2. Reduce the distance between the transmitter and the receiver.
3. Check the setting of the channel selector switch (both on “A” or ‘B”).
1.
Select a different transmission/reception channel.
2. Reduce the distance between the tansmitter and the receiver.
3. Check the batteries/battery packs and replace if necessary.
