MilaMai is a carrying support designed for babies and toddlers from birth to about four years of
age. Features:
Ergonomic baby carrying posture:
The MilaMai baby carrier was developed with a focus on the babys physiological and
healthy “spread-squat” posture. That is why so many baby carrier consultants and midwives
recommend MilaMai.
High wearing comfort:
MilaMai is worn close to the body. This ensures proper alignment with the wearers centre
of gravity. In addition, thanks to their ring attachment, the MilaMai shoulder straps adapt to
the wearers shoulder shape and stature.
Size adjustment to fit the baby:
MilaMai can be adjusted in both height and width. That means that the MilaMai carrier fits
approximately from sizes 56 to 104 or from 3.5 kg to 15 kg.
Swiss handcrafted production:
The MilaMai baby carrier is lovingly handmade in Switzerland. Many of the models are
completely unique. Custom-made designs are also available and very popular.
Head support:
The generous headrest provides ideal support for the babys head while the baby is sleep
ing. This is important since the neck muscles relax when the child sleeps.

What is the “spread-squat” position?
Babies should be carried in a physiological spread-squat position. In this position, the childs
knees are higher than its bottom, and the thighs are spread at roughly 90 degrees. This sup-
ports the healthy maturation of the hip joints. To achieve this posture, make sure that the gap
width for the leg position spans from the hollow of one of babys knees to the other but without
poking or chafing.

The elastic tab on the shoulder straps must be pulled over the buckle each time the MilaMai
is worn. Thread the excess length of the belt strap through the elastic tab as well. This en—
sures safety in case a buckle accidentally comes unfastened.
Always tighten the belt straps of your MilaMai carrier in the direction of the buckle and
along the extension of the shoulder strap. This protects the buckle and makes tightening
easier.
The belt strap that runs under the childs bottom must always be guided UNDER the childs
legs and never over them.
If you have never worn a baby carrier before, have someone else help you the first time
you try it out.
Only take your hands off the child when he or she is securely seated in the MilaMai carrier,
the buckles are fastened and secured with the elastic safety tabs, and all belt straps are
tightened.
Once you feel that you no longer have to hold the baby with your hands, you know that
MilaMai is securely and properly in place. If you bend forward, the carrier should not slide
more than one or two centimetres away from you.
These instructions apply exclusively to MilaMai.
Please note that it is necessary to follow each of the steps in these instructions for use.
We provide no guarantee against defects caused by improper handling of the MilaMai
carrier (such as incorrect washing or carrying persons who are too heavy).

To adjust the length of the back panel,
pull the waist strap out of the upper
drawstring casing and pull it through the
lower drawstring casing. This lengthens
the back panel by 7 cm. Dont forget to
adjust the belt strap as well. Normally,
the belt strap runs at the same height as
the waist strap; however, in the newborn
position, this strap is inserted through
the uppermost of the small loops on the
waist strap.
Adjustments prior to wear
Close the buckle until you hear a distinct click and pull the
elastic safety tab over the buckle. Then thread the excess
length of the belt strap through the elastic tab as well.
Should the buckle accidentally come unfastened, it will
get caught in the elastic band and your child will stay safe
and secure.
Before you can use the MilaMai, adjust the gap width for
leg positioning and the back panel height to suit the size of
your baby.
A new MilaMai carrier has Velcro pads inside the waist
strap drawstring casing with Velcro backing for fabric
protection. To adjust the gap width for leg positioning,
these must first be removed.
Then you can cinch the material for the gap width togeth-
er as far as necessary. The rule of thumb is:
Gap width for leg position = half the babys height.
See spread-squat position on page 3.
Spread the gathered fabric uniformly outwards on both
sides.
Make sure that the fabric reaches down to the hollow of
the babys knee but does not poke it.

Adjust the MilaMai to suit the size of your child. Join the
buckle elements of the belt strap and those of the shoul-
der straps together without crossing or twisting either of
them.
See position 1 of the adjustments prior to wear on page 5.
Place the waist strap around your waist so that the head-
rest of the raised back panel is on the outside. Close the
buckle of the waist strap until you hear a distinct click and
tighten the belt strap.
Bring your child into a spread-squat position above the
waist strap.
Hold the baby firmly with one hand. Raise the back panel
and put it around the baby.

Continue holding your baby with one hand. Lay both
shoulder straps one by one on your shoulders. Make sure
the belt straps run UNDER the babys legs.
Now tighten the belt straps of the MilaMai so that the
back panel is already in place but not sitting too tightly.
When tightening the belt strap, it is helpful to pull it in the
direction of the band, in this case diagonally forwards and
downwards.
Close the sternum strap at the nape of your neck.
Now tighten the shoulder straps so that the back panel
supports the baby completely.

9.
Smooth the folds in the fabric of the back panel outwards
and into the hollow of the childs knee.
Done! Enjoy carrying your baby.

Open the sternum strap at the nape of your neck.
Hold your child with one hand and slide one of the shoul-
der straps off your shoulder. Now you can take the baby
out of the MilaMai carrier from the side.

Front carrying with MilaMai
Option with crossed shoulder straps
Adjust the MilaMai carrier to the appropriate size for your
child and place the waist strap around your waist so that
the headrest of the raised back panel is on the outside.
Close the buckle of the waist strap until you hear a dis-
tinct click and tighten the belt strap.
Take a shoulder strap and the opposite long belt strap,
which passes through the small casing at the level of the
waist strap. For example, if you hold the right shoulder
strap in your hand, you take the belt strap that is hang-
ing down on the left in the other hand. Take care not to
twist the shoulder strap or the belt strap and join the two
buckle elements together.
See position 1 of the adjustments prior to wear on page 5.
Slip your arm into the newly created loop so that the
shoulder strap lies on one shoulder and the belt strap
passes under your arm on the other side.
Bring the second shoulder strap together with the oppo-
site long belt strap without twisting either of them.
See position 1 of the adjustments prior to wear on page 5.

Slip your other arm into the newly created loop so that
the shoulder strap lies on one shoulder and the belt strap
passes under your arm on the other side.
Slip the shoulder strap that was last put on your shoulder
down to make room for the baby.
Put your baby in front of your stomach and bring him or
her into a spread-squat position over the waist strap of
the MilaMai carrier.
Now put the back panel around your child and the sec-
ond shoulder strap back on your shoulder. Make sure the
belt straps run UNDER the babys legs.

Grab the shoulder strap that you last put on your shoul-
der and tighten it. When tightening the strap, it is helpful
to pull in the direction of the strap, in this case diagonally
downwards.
Tighten the second shoulder strap in the same way.
The shoulder straps are now crossed diagonally across
your back.
Smooth the folds in the fabric of the
back panel outwards and into the hollow
of the childs knee.
Done!

13
Open the buckle of one of the two shoul-
der straps. Tilt the buckle towards your
back and then down to get it out of the
elastic safety tab. As soon as one of the
two shoulder straps is released, you can
remove your child sideways from the
carrier.
Another option is to lift the buckle from one of the two
shoulder straps with your thumb. This will loosen the belt
strap.
It can be a bit challenging to get the shoulder straps of the MilaMai open again so that you can
take your baby out of the carrier. When you lift your baby up slightly inside the MilaMai, the
straps on your back automatically slide lower down. This way you can reach the buckle more
easily.
Lift your child up in the MilaMai carrier and slip out of one
of the two straps with one hand. Now you can take the
baby sideways out of the MilaMai carrier.

Strap the MilaMai carrier around your waist in front of you
and place your newborn in the baby carrier as described
on the previous pages. Do not tighten the straps yet!
Now reach into the pouch of the MilaMai with one hand
and lift your baby a little by its bottom.
Now you can use your other hand to hold the babys po-
sition from the outside: Support the baby about a hand’s
width above the waist strap from the outside.
As you continue to hold your baby at this height, finish
tightening one strap at a time.
Instead of being seated on the waist strap, the baby is
seated on the belt strap, which runs a few centimetres
above the waist strap when using the newborn place-
ment.
Using the headrest
15
MilaMai in the front carrying position
Cinch the fabric of the headrest on each side. This gives
your babys head lateral support when using the headrest.
Use a simple knot to tie the headrest to the loop on the
shoulder strap that fits best for you.
MilaMai in the back carrying position
Make sure that the fabric of the MilaMai headrest is
cinched on both sides before use. This ensures lateral
head support.
The MilaMais long ties are easy to reach in the back car-
rying position. When the headrest is raised, use a simple
knot to tie the headrest to the shoulder strap by thread-
ing it through the appropriate loop on the shoulder strap.

Place the waist strap around your waist so that the head-
rest of the raised back panel is on the outside.
Close the buckle of the waist strap until you hear a dis-
tinct click and tighten the belt strap.
Shift the MilaMai carrier slightly sideways onto your hip.
Pick up your child and bring him or her into a spread-
squat position above the waist strap.
Hold the child firmly with one hand. Raise the back panel
and put it around your baby.
Make sure the belt straps run UNDER the babys legs.

Hold both shoulder straps of the MilaMai carrier directly
at the base of the straps and bring them together in front
of your childs face. The baby has to be enclosed by the
straps in such a way that its head cannot slip downwards.
If you want to slide your child to the back on your right
side, take the shoulder straps in your left hand. If you pre-
fer the left side, take both straps in your right hand. Hold
the shoulder straps firmly with this hand.
Now move your free hand past the first shoulder strap
between you and your child and into the second shoulder
strap.
You can push the waist strap back with
your free hand. Continue to hold the two
shoulder straps firmly as you place them
onto your shoulders.

Once the baby is on your back, take both straps just as
tightly and firmly in the other hand. Now slip into the sec-
ond strap with your free arm.
Take one shoulder strap in each hand and keep it held
taut.
Tighten the belt strap on both shoulder straps.
Close the sternum strap.
