of soot produced and deposited.

• Installationandrepairshouldbedonebya QUALIFIED SERVICE

PERSON. Thisapplianceshouldbeinspectedbeforeuseandat

leastannuallybyaprofessionalserviceperson.Morefrequent

cleaningmayberequiredduetoexcessivelintfromcarpeting,

beddingmaterials,etc.Itisimperativethatcontrolcompartments,

burnersandcirculatingairpassagewaysof theappliancebe

keptclean.

WARNING

Whenusedwithoutadequatecombustionandventilationair,

heatermaygiveoffCARBONMONOXIDE,anodorless,poison-

ous gas.

Do not install heater until all necessary provisions are

madeforcombustionandventilationair.Consultthewrit-

teninstructionsprovidedwiththeheaterforinformation

concerningcombustionandventilationair.Intheabsence

of instructions, refer to the National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI

Z223.1/NFPA 54,Air for Combustion andVentilation, or

applicablelocalcodes.

Thisheater isequippedwith aPILOT LIGHT SAFETY SYS-

TEM designed to turn off the heater if not enough fresh air

isavailable.

DO NOT TAMPER WITH PILOT LIGHT SAFETY SYSTEM!

If heater shuts off, do not relight until you provide fresh air.

Ifheaterkeepsshuttingoff,haveitserviced.Keepburnerand

controlcompartmentclean.

CARBONMONOXIDEPOISONINGMAYLEADTODEATH.

Earlysignsofcarbonmonoxidepoisoningresembletheu,

with headache, dizziness and/or nausea. If you have these

signs,heater maynot beworkingproperly.Get fresh air at

once! Have heater serviced.

Somepeople—pregnantwomen,personswithheartorlung

disease,anemia,thoseundertheinuenceofalcohol,those

at high altitudes — are more affected by carbon monoxide

than others.

Thepilotlightsafetysystemsensesthedepletionofoxygen

at its location. If this heater is installed in a structure having a

highverticaldimension,thepossibilityexiststhattheoxygen

supplyatthehigherlevelswillbelessthanthatattheheater.

Inthistypeofapplication,afantocirculatethestructureairwill

minimizethiseffect.Theuseofthisfanwillalsoimprovethe

comfortlevelinthestructure.Whenafanisusedtocirculate

air,itshouldbelocatedsothattheairowisnotdirectedat

theburner.

Propane(LP-Gas)isaammablegaswhichcancauseres

andexplosions.Initsnaturalstate,propaneisodorlessand

colorless.Youmaynotknowallthefollowingsafetyprecautions

whichcanprotectbothyouandyourfamilyfromanaccident.

Readthemcarefullynow,thenreviewthempointbypointwith

themembersofyourhousehold.Somedaywhentheremaynot

beaminutetolose,everyone'ssafetywilldependonknowing

exactlywhattodo.If,afterreadingthefollowinginformation,

youfeelyoustillneedmoreinformation,pleasecontactyour

gas supplier.

LP-GAS WARNING ODOR

Ifagasleakhappens,youshouldbeabletosmellthegas

becauseoftheodorantputintheLP-Gas.

That'syoursignaltogointoimmediateaction!

• Donotoperateelectricswitches,lightmatches,useyour

phone. Do not do anything that could ignite the gas.

• Geteveryoneoutofthebuilding,vehicle,trailer,orarea.Do

that IMMEDIATELY.

• Closeallgastankorcylindersupplyvalves.

• LP-Gasisheavierthanairandmaysettleinlowareassuchas

basements.Whenyouhavereasontosuspectagasleak,keep

outofbasementsandotherlowareas.Stayoutuntilreghters

declarethemtobesafe.

• Useyourneighbor'sphoneandcallatrainedLP-Gasservice

person and the re department. Even though you may not

continue to smell gas, do not turn on the gas again. Do not

re-enterthebuilding,vehicle,trailer,orarea.

• Finally,lettheservicemanandreghterscheckforescaped

gas.Havethemairouttheareabeforeyoureturn.Properly

trained LP-Gas service people should repair the leak, then

checkandrelightthegasapplianceforyou.

NO ODOR DETECTED - ODOR FADE

Some people cannot smellwell. Some people cannot smell

theodorofthechemicalputintothegas.Youmustndoutif

youcansmelltheodorantinpropane.Smokingcandecrease

yourabilitytosmell.Beingaroundanodorforatimecanaffectyour

sensitivityorabilitytodetectthatodor.Sometimesotherodorsin

theareamaskthegasodor.Peoplemaynotsmellthegasodoror

theirmindsareonsomethingelse.Thinkingaboutsmellingagas

odorcanmakeiteasiertosmell.

TheodorantinLP-gasiscolorless,anditcanfadeundersome

circumstances.Forexample,ifthereisanundergroundleak,the

movementofthegasthroughsoilcanltertheodorant.Odorantsin

LP-Gasalsoaresubjecttooxidation.Thisfadingcanoccurifthere

isrustinsidethestoragetankorinirongaspipes.

Theodorantinescapedgascanadsorborabsorbontoorintowalls,

masonryandothermaterialsandfabricsinaroom.

That will take some of the odorant out of the gas, reducing its

odor intensity. LP-Gas may stratify in a closed area, and the odor

intensity could vary at different levels. Since it is heavier than air,

theremaybemoreodoratlowerlevels.Alwaysbesensitivetothe

slightestgasodor.Ifyoudetectanyodor,treatitasaseriousleak.

Immediately go into action as instructed earlier.

SOME POINTS TO REMEMBER

• LearntorecognizetheodorofLP-gas.Your local LP-Gas

Dealer can give you a "Scratch and Sniff" pamphlet. Use it to

ndoutwhatthepropaneodorsmellslike.Ifyoususpectthat

yourLP-Gashasaweakorabnormalodor,callyourLP-Gas

Dealer.

• Ifyouarenotqualied,donotlightpilotlights,performservice,

ormakeadjustmentstoappliancesontheLP-Gassystem.If

youarequalied,consciouslythinkabouttheodorofLP-Gas

prior to and while lighting pilot lights or performing service or

makingadjustments.

• Sometimes a basement or aclosed-uphouse has a musty

smell that can cover up the LP-Gas odor. Do not try to light

pilotlights,performservice,ormakeadjustmentsinanarea

where the conditions are such that you may not detect the odor

iftherehasbeenaleakofLP-Gas.

• Odorfade,duetooxidationbyrustoradsorptiononwallsof

newcylindersandtanks,ispossible.Therefore,peopleshould

beparticularlyalertandcarefulwhennewtanksorcylinders

areplacedinservice.Odorfadecanoccurinnewtanks,or

reinstalledoldtanks,iftheyarelledandallowedtosettoo

longbeforerelling.Cylindersandtankswhichhavebeenout

of service for a time may develop internal rust which will cause

odor fade. If such conditions are suspected to exist, a periodic

snifftestofthegasisadvisable.If you have any question

about the gas odor, call your LP-gas dealer. A periodic

sniff test of the LP-gasisagoodsafetymeasureunder

any condition.

• Sooting: Avent-freereplaceorburnerdrawsroomairto

supportcombustion.Lightweightparticlessuspendedinthe

air–includingdust,carpetbers,candleortobaccosmoke,

andpethair–willbedrawntowardthereplace.These

canleadtosootbuilduponlogs,replacewalls,andeven

walls of the room. To prevent malfunctions and sooting, have

your dealer perform an inspection and cleaning each year

–beforetheheatingseason.Ifyouhavepetsorexcessive

dust,morefrequentcleaningmaybenecessary.See

cleaning and service section in this manual.

• Donotplaceembers(rockwool)inthisreplace.

• Donotplacelavarocksonburnerorlogs.

• Installingatelevisionaboveareplacehasbecomea

desirablefeature;however,thefollowinginformation

 shouldbeconsidered.

Allreplaces,whetherdecorativeorheaterratedcreate

heat. Most television manufacturers recommend not

placing a television near a heat source. Because there is a

large variety of television manufactures, styles and sizes,

it is impractical to test every potential installation. If you

choosetoinstallatelevisionaboveornearyourreplace,

understand that Empire Comfort Systems accepts no

responsibilityforthisdecisionandanyinjuryordamagedue

tothisapplicationisthesoleresponsibilityoftheowner.

Additionally,itishighlyrecommendedtoturnoffthereplace

andletitcooldownbeforeservicingorusingtheoperational

buttonslocatedonthetelevision.Inallcases,thetelevision

manufacturer’sinstructionsandwarningsshouldbefollowed.

• If,atanytime,youdonotsmelltheLP-Gasodorantandyou

thinkyoushould,assumeyouhavealeak.Thentakethesame

immediateactionrecommendedabovefortheoccasionwhen

you do detect the odorized LP-Gas.

• Ifyouexperienceacomplete"gasout,"(thecontainerisunder

novaporpressure),turnthetankvalveoffimmediately.Ifthe

container valve is left on, the container may draw in some air

throughopeningssuchaspilotlightorices.Ifthisoccurs,some

new internal rusting could occur. If the valve is left open, then

treatthecontainerasanewtank.Alwaysbesureyourcon-

tainerisundervaporpressurebyturningitoffatthecontainer

beforeitgoescompletelyemptyorhavingitrelledbeforeitis

completely empty.

IMPORTANT INSTALLATION GUIDELINES

ProperPrimaryAirowintoBurner

For proper burner operation and ame appearance, the ow of

primaryairintotheventuritube,locatedontherearoftheburner,

mustnotbereduced.Thisowofairisreducedifdirt,lintorother

obstructionsbuild-uparoundorinsidetheventuri.Anyobstruction

intheventuritubeareamustberemoved.Theowofairintothe

venturiisalsoreducedifthegasoriceisn’tcenteredintheventuri

inlet and/or is not aligned with the venturi. Any misalignment of the

burneroricemaybecorrectedbybendingtheshuttercapholding

theoricetotheinletoftheventuritube.

CeilingFansorPortableFansInstalledNearColdAirReturns

Ceiling fans or oscillating oor type fans need to be monitored

duringtheoperationofvent-freeproducts.Iftheairblowsdirectly

intotheamecausingittodisrupttheame,itshouldbeturnedoff

orredirected.Ceilingfanscouldbereversedtopossiblyeliminate

ameimpingement,and theoor fancould beredirected.Upon

installation, be aware of any cold air returns or vents in the

proximity of the vent free product. Any draft created around a vent-

free burner can cause the ame to act irregular and create hot

surfaces.

WARNING

Donotallowfanstoblowdirectlyintothereplace.Avoidany

draftsthatalterburneramepatterns.

WARNING

Do not use a blower insert, heat exchanger insert or other

accessory not approved for use with this heater.

Candles

Avoid the use of scented or decorative candles while the log set is

in operation. Candles produce a residue in the air that creates a

sootlikesubstance.Burningcandleswhilethelogsetisoperating

magniestheproblem.Itshouldbenotedthatcandles,ingeneral,

produce soot. The amount of time burned and the quantity of

candlesburnedwilldeterminetheamountofsootproducedand

deposited.

Instructions to Installer

1. Installer must leave instruction manual with owner after

installation.

2. Installermusthaveownerlloutandmailwarrantycardsupplied

with unvented room heater.

3. Installer should show owner how to start and operate unvented

room heater.

Always consult your local Building Department regarding regulations,

codes or ordinances which apply to the installation of an unvented

room heater.

Thisappliancemaybeinstalledinanaftermarket*manufactured

(mobile)home,wherenotprohibitedbystateorlocalcodes.

*Aftermarket: Completionofsale,notforpurposeofresale,from

the manufacturer.

This appliance is only for use with the type of gas indicated on the

Any alteration of the original design, installed other than as

shown in these instructions or use with a type of gas not

shownontheratingplateistheresponsibilityoftheperson

andcompanymakingthechange.

750MillivoltSystem

When you ignite the pilot, the thermocouple produces millivolts

(electrical current) which energizes the magnet in the gas valve.

After 30 seconds to 1 minute time period you can release the gas

controlknoband thepilotwill stayON.Allowyour pilotameto

operateanadditionalonetotwominutesbeforeyouturnthegas

controlknobfromthePILOTpositiontotheONposition.Thistime

periodallowsthemillivolts(electricalenergy)tobuild-uptoasufcient

level allowing the gas control to operate properly.

Important

AllcorrespondenceshouldrefertocompleteModelNumber,Serial

Numberandtypeofgas.

Notice: Duringinitialringofthisunit,itspaintwillbakeout,and

smokewilloccur.Topreventtriggeringofsmokealarms,ventilate

the room in which the unit is installed.

Solid-fuelsshallnotbeburnedinamasonryorUL 127 factory-

builtreplaceinwhichanunventedroomheaterisinstalled.

QualiedInstallingAgency

Installation and replacement of gas piping, gas utilization equipment

or accessories and repair and servicing of equipment shall be

performedonlybyaqualiedagency.Theterm"qualiedagency"

meansanyindividual,rm,corporationorcompanywhicheitherin

personorthrougharepresentativeisengagedinandisresponsiblefor

(a)theinstallationorreplacementofgaspipingor(b)theconnection,

installation, repair or servicing of equipment, who is experienced in

suchwork,familiarwithallprecautionsrequiredandhascomplied

with all the requirements of the authority having jurisdiction.

Commonwealth of Massachusetts: The installation must be

madebyalicensedplumberorgastterintheCommonwealth

of Massachusetts.

Sellersofunventedpropaneornaturalgas-redsupplemental

room heaters shall provide to each purchaser a copy of 527 CMR

30 upon sale of the unit.

In the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, unvented propane and

naturalgas-redspaceheatersshallbeprohibitedinbedrooms

andbathrooms.

1. Before beginning, check to make sure there is no hidden

damagetotheunit.Takeaminuteandplanoutthegasand

electrical route. It is bestto start with the gas line rst, fol-

lowedbytheelectricalsupplyrequirements.

2. Minimum replace opening requirements are shown in

Figure 2ofthisinstallationmanual.Therebrick(refractory),

glassdoors,screenrails,screenmeshandloggratescanbe

removedfromareplaceinordertogainminimumgasinsert

openingrequirementspriortoinstalling thegasreplace in-

sert.

CAUTION

Determinethetotalthickness ofnishingmaterials(i.e.stone,

brick or marble) so that the proper dimensions can be main-

tainedforinstallingthereplaceanddecorativefronts.

3. Although the insert does not require a hearth extension, only

heat resistant materials such as stone, metal, tile, etc. should

beused.Donotusevinyl,carpet,orwoodbasedproducts

within16inchesoftheinsertface.Donotobstructthelower

louver (if included), or other vented openings on the insert.

Note:Theoriginalreplacecannotbereturnedtosolid

fuel use without returning the hearth extension to the

specicationrequiredforasolidfuelreplace.

4. Thesidewalls,topandoorstructuresofthereboxmaynot

bealteredwiththeexceptionofremovablebafesanddamp-

ers.Smokeshields,shelves andbafesmay beremoved if

attached with mechanical fasteners. The original replace

cannotbereturnedtosolidfuelinthiscondition.

5. The insert surround is tested and approved with this gas in-

sert and may cover existing air circulation vents or grills on the

solidfuelreplaceitisinstalledinto.Ifthesurrounddoesnot

cover the entire ventilation grill surface, the exposed grill area

shouldbeleftopen.

NOTE:

Cuttinganysheet-metalfromthedecommissionedre-

Positioning, Leveling and Securing Insert

6. Place the insert into position

NOTE: Thefrontangesoftheinsert(withoutsurroundpanels)

shouldbesetatapproximately1"infrontofthefaceof

thereplace.

7. Leveltheinsertfromsidetosideandfronttoback.

8. Ifnecessary,usethelevelingboltsincludedintheinstruction

pack.Screwthelegsintothenutsinstalledinthebottomof

the insert. Turn legs in until insert is level.

Note: Thebestwaytoaccessthelevelingboltlocationsisto

removetheburnerandreboxbottom.

NOTE:

Ifdesired,itisacceptabletoattachmetalstrappingor

brackets(notprovided)fromthereplacecavitytotheinsert

outerjackettosecurethereplaceinserttothereplacehearth

or opening.

9. Install the insert without the surround panels attached and

makeallgasventingandelectricalconnections.Ifthecontrol

module, receiver and other electrical devices are pulled out to

installthegasline,theymustbeplacedbackintothelocation

wheretheywerefromthefactory.Thegasexlinemaycross

over the control module.

Notice: If desired, it is acceptable to attach metal strapping or

brackets (not provided) from the replace cavity to the

insert outer jacket to secure the replace insert to the

replacehearthoropening.

WARNING

Vertythatallwireconnectionsaresecure.

Ifthefactorybuiltreplacedoesnothavegasaccessholes

provided, an access hole of 1 1/2” diameter (37.5mm) or

lessmay bedrilled throughthe lowersides orbottom of

thereboxinaproperworkmanshiplikemanner.Thisac-

cessholemustbepluggedwithanon-combustibleinsula-

tionafterthegassupplylinehasbeeninstalled.

10. Thesurroundpanelassemblyisattachedtothereplaceafter

Ensure thereare no obstructionsto side airpassages of

In planning the installation for the replace, it is necessary to

determinewherethe unitis tobe installedandwhetheroptional

accessoriesaredesired.Gassupplypipingshouldalsobeplanned

at this time.

Thereplacecanbemountedonanyofthesesurfaces:

1. Aathardcombustibleornon-combustiblesurface.

2. Araisedplatformofcombustibleornon-combustiblematerial.

3. Four corners of the replace so contact is made on all four

perimeteredgesonthebottomoftheunit.

 (Example:Fourconcretemasonryblocks.)

At this point, you should have decided what components to include

inyourinstallation,andwherethereplaceistobelocated.Ifthis

hasnot been done,stop andconsult yourdealer forassistance

with this planning.

Thisunitisdesignedtobeinstalledinazero-clearanceenclosure.

Thismeansthecombustiblematerialcancomeincontactwiththe

rebox.

Built-In Fireplace Installation

Built-in installation of this replace involves installing the

replaceintoa framed-inenclosure.Thismakesthe frontofthe

replaceushwithawall.

Frame in rough opening. Use dimensions show in Figure 3 for a

conventional rough opening. Use dimensions shown in Figure 4

for corner rough opening. Use Figure 5 for an elevated installation.

Besuretoprovidedsupporttothebottomofthereplace.Besure

toprovidegas linefor replaceand electricalpowerforoptional

blowerassembly.

1. Gas line connections must be made at this time. When

facing the appliance, the gas supply will enter on the right-

hand side. See "Gas Supply" page 15 to 16.

2. Insert replace into enclosure. Attach to wall with screws

throughholesoncabinetsides.

Watervaporisaby-productofgascombustion.Anunventedroom

heater produces approximately one ounce (30ml) of water for every

1,000BTU's(.3KW's)ofgasinputperhour.

Unvented room heaters are recommended as supplemental heat (a

room) rather than a primary heat source (an entire house). In most

supplemental heat applications, the water vapor does not create a

problem.Inmostapplications,thewatervaporenhancesthelow

humidity atmosphere experienced during cold weather.

The following steps will help insure that water vapor does not

becomeaproblem.

1. Be sure the heater is sized properly for the application, including

amplecombustionairandcirculationair.

2. Ifhighhumidityisexperienced,adehumidiermaybeusedto

help lower the water vapor content of the air.

3. Do not use an unvented room heater as the primary heat

source.

Thisheatershallnotbeinstalledinaconnedspaceorunusually

tight construction unless provisions are provided for adequate

combustionandventilationair.

InstallationinaConnedSpace

Aconnedspaceisanareawithvolumelessthan50cubicfeetper

1,000Btuhofthecombinedinputratesofallappliancesdrawing

combustionairfromthatspace.Smallareassuchas equipment

roomsareconnedspaces.Furnacesinstalledinaconnedspace

which supply heated air to areas outside the space must draw return

air from outside the space through tightly sealed return air ducts. A

connedspacemusthave2openingsintothespaceforcombustion

air.Oneopeningmustbewithin12inchesoftheceilingandthe

othermustbewithin12inchesoftheoor.Therequiredsizingof

theseopeningsisdeterminedbywhetherinsideoroutsideairis

usedtosupportcombustion,themethodbywhichtheairisbrought

tothespace(verticalorhorizontalduct)andbythetotalinputrate

of all appliances in the space.

Unusually Tight Construction

Theairthatleaksarounddoorsandwindowsmayprovideenough

freshairforcombustionandventilation.However,inbuildingsof

unusually tight construction, you must provide additional fresh air.

Unusually tight construction is dened as construction

where:

a. Walls and ceilings exposed to the outside atmosphere have

a continuous water vapor retarder with a rating of one perm

orlesswithopeningsgasketedorsealed,and

b. Weather-stripping has beenadded on openable windows

and doors, and

c. Caulking or sealants are applied to areas such as joints

aroundwindowanddoorframes,betweensoleplatesand

oors,betweenwall-ceilingjoints,betweenwallpanels,at

penetrationsforplumbing,electrical,andgaslines,andat

other openings.

 Ifyourhomemeetsallofthethreecriteriaabove,youmustprovide

additional fresh air. See “VentilationAirFromOutdoors,” page

14.

DeterminingifYouHaveaConnedorUnconnedSpace

Usethisworksheettodetermineifyouhaveaconnedorunconned

space.

Space: Includes the room in which you will install heater plus any

adjoining rooms with doorless passageways or ventilation grills

betweentherooms.

1. Determine the volume of the space (length x width x height).

Length x Width x Height = cu. ft. (volume of

space)

Example: Space size 16 ft. (length) x 10 ft. (width) x 8 ft. (ceiling

height) = 1,280 cu. ft. (volume of space)

If additional ventilation to adjoining room is supplied with grills

or openings, add the volume of these rooms to the total volume

of the space.

2. Divide thespacevolume by 50 cubic feet to determine the

maximum BTU/Hr the space can support.

(volume of space) ÷ 50 cu. ft. = (maximum

BTU/Hr the space can support)

Example: 1,280 cu. ft. (volume of space) ÷ 50 cu. ft. = 25.6 or

25,600 (maximum BTU/Hr the space can support)

VentilationAirFromInsideBuilding

Thisfreshairwouldcomefromanadjoiningunconnedspace.When

ventilatingtoanadjoiningunconnedspace,youmustprovidetwo

permanent openings: one within 12" of the ceiling and one within

12"oftheooronthewallconnectingthetwospaces(seeoptions

1 and 2, Figure 6). You can also remove door into adjoining room

(see option 3, Figure 6). Each ventilation grill or opening shall have

a minimum free area of one square inch per 1,000 BTUH of the total

inputratingofthegasequipmentintheconnedspace.

VentilationAirFromOutdoors

Provideextrafreshairbyusingventilationgrillsorducts.Youmust

provide two permanent openings: one within 12" of the ceiling and

onewith12"oftheoor.Connecttheseitemsdirectlytotheoutdoors

or spaces open to the outdoors. These spaces include attics and

crawl spaces. In most cases for direct communication with the

outdoors or direct communication through a vertical duct a free

area opening of one square inch per 4,000 BTU/Hr of heater input

rating for each grill. If a horizontal duct is used, a grill free area or

duct opening shall have a free area opening of one square inch per

2,000 BTU/Hr for each grill. Follow the National Fuel Code ANSI

Z223.1/NFPA54, Air for Combustion and Ventilation for required

size of ventilation grills or ducts.

IMPORTANT: Do not provide openings for inlet or outlet air into attic

if attic has a thermostat-controlled power vent. Heated air entering

the attic will activate the power vent.

contact your local authorized installer for installation or relocation.

Compoundsusedonthreadedjointsofgaspipingshallberesistant

totheactionofliqueedpetroleumgases.Thegaslinesmustbe

checkedforleaksbytheinstaller.Thisshouldbedonewithasoap

solutionwatchingforbubblesonallexposedconnections,andif

unexposed,apressuretestshouldbemade.

Neveruseanexposedametocheckforleaks.Appliancemust

bedisconnectedfrompipingatinletofcontrolvalveandpipe

cappedorpluggedforpressuretest.Neverpressuretestwith

applianceconnected;controlvalvewillsustaindamage!

Notice: The millivolt gas controls are equipped with a captured screw

type pressure test point, therefore it is not necessary to provide a

1/8" test point up stream of the control.

Whenusingcopperorexconnectoruseonlyapprovedttings.

Theapplianceandit’sindividualshutoffvalvemustbedisconnected

from supply piping system during any pressure testing of that system

attestpressuresinexcessof1/2psig(3.5kPa).

Theappliancemustbeisolatedfromthegassupplypipingsystem

byclosingitsindividualmanualshutoffvalveduringanypressure

testing of the gas supply piping system at test pressures equal to

orlessthan1/2psig(3.5kPa).

Attention! If one of the procedures results in pressures in excess of

1/2psig(14"w.c.)(3.5kPa)onthereplacegasvalve,itwillresult

in a hazardous condition.

pressure regulator for measuring gas pressure. The connection is

a 1/8 inch N.P.T. plugged tapping.

from a minimum of 4.5" w.c. for the purpose of input adjustment to

a maximum of 10.5" w.c.

Propane gas will have a manifold pressure approximately 10.0"w.c.

(2.49kPa)formaximuminputor4.9"w.c.forminimuminputatthe

pressure regulator outlet with the inlet pressure to the pressure

regulator from a minimum of 11.0"w.c. for the purpose of input

adjustment to a maximum of 13.0"w.c.

INTERMITTENT PILOT VALVES

Natural gas will have a manifold pressure of approximately 3.5"

w.c. at the pressure regulator outlet with the inlet pressure to the

pressure regulator from a minimum of 7.0" w.c. for the purpose of

WIRING THE FIREPLACE

Electricalwiringmustbeinstalledbyalicensedelectrician.

WARNING

DISCONNECT REMOTE CONTROLS IF YOU ARE ABSENT

FOR EXTENDED TIME PERIODS. THIS WILL PREVENT AC-

CIDENTAL FIREPLACE OPERATION.

Installation of Alternate Surround Panel ON/OFF Switch on

themillivoltcontrolvalveonly.

AnON/OFFswitchandwireassemblyareprovided.Theyarein-

cludedintheinstructionpacket.

Do not cut wire or insulation on metal edges.

Notice: Refer to surround panel installation section in the

InstallationInstructionssuppliedwiththesurroundforaddi-

tionalinformationonattachment.

DF(20,28)MBL or DF(20,28)LBL Surround

1. FindthecoiledlowvoltagewireassemblyandON/OFFswitch

locatedintheinstructionpacket.

2. Attachtheagterminalendstothe“TH/TP”and“TH”termi-

nalsonthefrontterminalblockofthegasvalve.See Figure

19.

3. Runthelowvoltagealternateswitchwiresupthebackofthe

right or left surround panel. Then secure the wires with wire

clips provided. See Figure 17.

InsertON/OFFswitchintosidepanelthenattachwireassem-

blyfromvalveterminals.

4. Removetheswitch knockouton theDF(20,28)BL surround,

theninstalltheON/OFFswitchintotheswitchbracket.

5. Connect the low voltage wires from the gas valve to the

ON/OFF switch.

NOTE: The minimum clearance to the oor when using a

DF(20,28)MBL surround is 2 inches. This clearance allows

access to the ON/OFF switch.

6. Attachthesurroundpanelassemblytotheinsert.Place the

surroundpanelassembly againstthe faceof theinsert and

alignthelower retainingtabs withthe notchesontheinsert

sides.Liftthesurroundpanelassemblyslightlyuntilthebot-

tomreturnange(toppanel)ispositionedoverthetopange

on theinsert.This secures thesurround panelassemblyto

the insert without screws.
