Receiving TV signals using a TV antenna or from a cable provider (no cable box)
The MX-42X3 monitor does not have an NTSC broadcast tuner. The product will not accept a connection
directly from a coax connector. A connection directly from an antenna or from a cable provider contains
information that the monitor will not understand. You will need to “translate” this information by suing an
external device. Most VCRs have this ability.
Steps:
(I) Connect the coax from your antenna or from your cable company to the antenna input on the
back of your VCR.
(II) Connect the video output (normally identified as a yellow RCA connector) from your VCR to
either the AV1 input on the back of the MX-42X3 (a yellow RCA connector well).
(III) You will also need to connect the Audio output (normally identified as a red and white RCA
connector) from the VCR to the corresponding colors audio input jacks on the AV1 input.
(IV) If you have not done so already, turn the power on for the MX-42X3 and the VCR. Select AV1
input on the Maxent monitor. You should now see the display for the VCR.
Note: Using this type of connection you will be able to select channels using the controls for your VCR.
Power, volume control and input selection are still done using the Maxent monitor or the Maxent remote
control. Depending on your model of VCR, you may be required perform additional steps to setup the VCR
such as Channel Search. Please consult the user manual for the VCR for VCR setup.
Receiving TV signals using a set top box (cable or satellite company provided)
(A) High definition set top box:
This type of box can generally be confirmed by identifying the types of outputs on the back of the box. This
type of box will have outputs commonly labeled as “component video”. You may also see outputs such as
RGB, DVI, or HDMI.
Steps:
(I) The coax connector from your cable or satellite company should already be connected to the
back of the set top box.
(II) Connect the Component video output (can be identified by 3 colored RCA plugs(a green, can
be labeled Y; a blue, can be labeled Pb; and Red, labeled Pr) from your set top box to the
component video input on the back of the MX-42X3 (you will also find a corresponding type
connection there as well). Be certain to match the colors from the set top box with the ones on
the back of the Maxent.
(III) You will also need to connect the Audio output (normally identified as a red and white RCA
connector) from the set top box to the corresponding color audio input jacks on the component
input.
(IV) If you have not done so already, turn the power on for the MX-42X3 and the cable or satellite
box. Select Component input on the Maxent monitor. You should now see the display for
cable or satellite box.
Note: Using this type of connection you will be able to select channels using the controls for your cable or
satellite box. Power, volume control and input selection are still done using the Maxent monitor or the
Maxent remote control. Depending on your model of you set top box, you may be required perform
additional steps to setup the box such as Channel Search. Please consult the user manual or contact your
content provider for additional setup instructions.
(B) Non-High Definition set top box:

This type of box can also be identified by the type of outputs that are on the back of the unit. This type of box
will have outputs commonly labeled as video out (single yellow RCA connection) or the box may have an S
video connection (small black connector with 4 small connections inside.
(I) The coax connector from your cable or satellite company should already be connected to the
back of the set top box.
(II) Connect the video output (can be either a yellow RCA connector or a small S Video connector)
from your set top box to the AV1 input on the back of the MX-42X3 (you will also find a
corresponding type connection there as well).
(III) You will also need to connect the Audio output (normally identified as a red and white RCA
connector) from the set top box to the corresponding colors audio input jacks on the AV1 input.
(IV) If you have not done so already, turn the power on for the MX-42X3 and the cable or satellite
box. Select AV1 input on the Maxent monitor. You should now see the display for cable or
satellite box.
Remote Codes for Satellite and Cable TV
The remote control numeric codes you are referring to are not available through our company. The
manufacturer of the universal remote assigns the code you are looking for.
When a cable company (ie., Comcast) or satellite provider (ie., Dish Network) orders their decoder box and
universal remote control from a manufacturer (ie., Scientific Atlanta, Motorola, etc.), the decoder box
manufacturer provides a list of all the possible remote controls this universal can duplicate. From that list
the cable or satellite company selects which manufacture’s products to include on their new universal
remote. If they choose not to include our company on the universal remote, the universal remote
may not work with our product.
Possible solutions:
(1) We have identified other manufacturers of display products that have similar remote control
information to ours. Depending on the universal remote you are using these other manufacturers
may or may not work. Using the documentation that accompanied your universal remote, look up
the following companies and input the 3 or 4 digit code associated with that company.
Gateway
Sampo
Viewsonic
Magnavox
Phillips
Marantz
Pilot
(2) If the universal remote you are trying to program contains a “Code Search” function, (the remote
will scan through all the manufacturer codes contained within the universal remote), we
recommend that you try that procedure. It is possible that there may be another manufacturer’s
code that may work with our monitor.
(3) You may also want to try a “Learning” Remote from another manufacturer. This type of remote
control can absorb or record the information coming directly out of the Maxent remote control. The
“learning” remote then duplicates that information and acts like the Maxent Remote control. This
type of remote can also record the signal coming from your other universal remote, in which case
you can use this “learning remote” for your entire audio video system.
Changes in the user manual

CCD (closed caption display) is a function that allows the audible conversations in a broadcast program to
be viewed on the screen in the form of words. This function is only available using an installed tuner. Since
this product does not have an installed tuner, CCD is not available as a function on the monitor.
Page 30
There is a change on page 30 of the user manual for the MX-42X3. The manual requests that display
properties be changed to 24bit color. The correct change would be to either 16 bit or 32 bit color.
