Technical safety
Always disconnect from the mains
supply for cleaning or maintenance
work, (switch off at the wall socket and
remove the plug).
Do not dip the Turbobrush into any
liquid. Clean only with a dry cloth,
or a slightly damp cloth to avoid any
moisture getting into the appliance,
which could lead to the danger of an

for its safe disposal.
The manufacturer cannot accept
responsibility for damage caused
when the Warning and Safety in
-
structions are not observed in use.
G Warning and Safety instructions
8
The Turbobrush is intended for
brushing and cleaning cut pile
carpeting. In addition the Turbobrush
can be used on hard-wearing smooth
flooring surfaces. Four rollers maintain
the brush 1.5 mm away from the floor.
The normal floorhead or the Miele
parquet floorbrush should be used to
clean delicate hard flooring, e.g.
parquet flooring and floor surfaces
which are susceptible to scratching.
^
Pass the Turbobrush slowly
backwards and forwards over the
carpet or floor covering to achieve
the best effect.
For carpets with fringes always draw
the Turbobrush from the carpet across
the fringe towards the rest of the floor
for a flat effect.
The following should not be vacuu-
med using the Turbobrush:
Floor surfaces with a variable or
uneven profile. The brush might
come into contact with the floor and
cause a damage.
Carpets such as saxony with very
long pile, berber and sheepskin
rugs, and valuable hand-knotted car
-
pets, e.g. Persian and similar.
There is a danger that threads can
be pulled out.
When in doubt please consult your
carpet specialist.
G Use
9
Fitting the Turbobrush
Model STB 205
This Turbobrush is intended for use with
Miele vacuum cleaners.
^
Instead of the usual floor attachment,
fit the Turbobrush to the suction tube.
Ensure that the locking device
engages.
Model STB 201 Vario
This Turbobrush has an adaptable
connector. It can fit suction tubes with a
diameter of between 30 and 38 mm.
Only use the Turbobrush however with
vacuum cleaners that have a high
power performance.
Opening the air adjustment
slide
The Turbobrush is driven by the
suction power of the vacuum cleaner.
With thick pile carpets the brush roller
can rotate more slowly if the suction
opening is choked with carpet pile,
impeding the flow of air. This may result
in the carpet surface not being brushed
to satisfaction.
^
Open the air adjustment slide (left
hand illustration).
In all other situations the air adjustment
slide should be closed, to benefit from
the full suction power.
^
Close the air adjustment slide (right
hand illustration).
G Use
10
,
Always disconnect the vacuum
cleaner from the electrical supply for
maintenance work and for cleaning.
Switch off at the wall socket and
remove the plug.
To remove threads and hairs
^
Cut any threads or hairs that have
become entangled on the brush
roller with a pair of scissors. The cut
pieces will be drawn in by the suction
power of the vacuum cleaner next
time it is used.
For more obstinate tangles or
blockages the roller cover can be
opened. Any large particles drawn in
can then be removed.
^ Loosen the two locking screws with a
small coin, and take off the roller
cover.
^ Remove any dirt in the brush
compartment interior, and from the
roller brush.
^
Put the roller cover back on and
close it.
^
Tighten the locking screws.
G Cleaning and care
11
The turbobrush is designed for use with Miele vacuum cleaners. It can also be
used with other vacuum cleaner brands if the Miele turbobrush can be securely
attached to that particular model. If an adapter is necessary to connect the Miele
turbobrush to a vacuum cleaner, use a Miele recommended adapter only.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
When using an electrical appliance, basic safety precautions should always be
followed, including:
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS APPLIANCE
WARNING: NEVER VACUUM LIQUIDS!
Electrical shock could occur if the
vacuum cleaner or turbobrush is
used outdoors or on wet surfaces.
Water will damage the turbobrush
and vacuum cleaner. Freshly
shampooed carpets or floor coverings
should be completely dry before they
are vacuumed.
Flammable liquids such as clean-
ing fluids, perfumes or gasoline
may ignite or explode causing damage
and personal injury.
Before connecting the turbobrush
to the vacuum cleaner, make sure
the vacuum cleaner is turned off and
disconnected from the electrical outlet.
Always turn off the vacuum cleaner
and disconnect the plug from the
outlet before servicing the turbobrush.
Never vacuum cigarette butts, fire
-
place ashes, matches or other
smoking materials, as this may result in
a fire.
Do not vacuum heavy, hard or
sharp objects, as they could clog
the suction hose or damage the turbo-
brush, dustbag, motor or other compo-
nents of the vacuum cleaner.
Do not immerse any part of the
vacuum cleaner or turbobrush in
water.
Do not use the turbobrush to clean
another electrical appliance.
Do not use the vacuum cleaner or
turbobrush to vacuum humans or
animals.
U Warning and Safety Instructions
53
Always work in a well lit area to
avoid tripping or accidentally
vacuuming hazardous materials.
Do not use the vacuum cleaner
blower when the turbobrush is
attached.
Children or adults unfamiliar with
these operating instructions should
not use the vacuum cleaner with or
without the turbobrush attached.
Exercise extreme caution when
vacuuming near children. Moving
parts and suction can cause injury.
Never leave the vacuum cleaner
unattended when plugged in.
Do not allow children to play with
or near the vacuum cleaner or
turbobrush.
Keep the turbobrush on the floor
when vacuuming. Do not use it to
vacuum furniture.
The turbobrush should be stored
away from heat and moisture. Keep
it stored in a cool, dry place, away from
children and household traffic.
The turbobrush should only be
used for its intended purposes and
in a manner consistent with the instruc
-
tions found in this manual.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
THIS APPLIANCE IS INTEN
-
DED FOR HOUSEHOLD USE
ONLY
The manufacturer cannot accept
responsibility for damage or injury
when this appliance is used in a
manner inconsistent with its de-
signed purpose, or if the instructions
in this manual are not followed.
U Warning and Safety Instructions
54
Read these Operating instructions
carefully and completely before
using this appliance. Failure to do
so can result in property damage or
personal injury to you or others.
The Turbobrush is intended for cleaning
short to medium pile carpeting. It can
also be occasionally used on smooth
floor surfaces.
The Miele Powerbrush is recommended
for cleaning deep pile or shag carpets.
U Operation
55
Attaching the Turbobrush to
the Miele Vacuum Cleaner
Model STB 205
This Turbobrush is intended for use with
Miele vacuum cleaners only.
^
Insert the suction wand into the neck
of the turbobrush as shown. If the
locking mechanism does not com-
pletely engage, gently twist the wand
while it is in the neck until it clicks into
place.
^
To remove the turbobrush, press the
release button while pulling the suc-
tion wand out of the neck of the
turbobrush.
Model STB 201
This turbobrush has an adjustable
collar that will allow it to be used on
suction wands with a diameter of
1
3
/
16
inch - 1
1
/
2
inch (30 - 38 mm). It
should be used on high performance
vacuums, otherwise the overall perfor
-
mance of the vacuum may be compro
-
mised.
U Operation
56
Operating the Turbobrush
The Turbobrush is driven by the sucti-
on power of the vacuum cleaner. For
the best results and control, set the
vacuum cleaner for maximum suction,
and adjust the Turbobrush speed by
using the sliding air flow regulator
located on the top of the Turbobrush
housing.
^
For routine cleaning of low-to-me-
dium pile carpeting, or for deep-
cleaning in general, slide the air flow
regulator to the right as shown in the
far right illustration.
Deeper pile carpeting can be drawn
into the suction opening, thereby
obstructing air flow and impeding the
action of the roller.
^ This can be remedied by turning slid-
ing the air flow regulator to the left as
shown in the left hand illustration.
Important: When vacuuming rugs with
fringes, always start the Turbobrush on
the rug and pull it towards you onto the
surrounding floor. Never push the turbo
-
brush over the fringes, as they may be
pulled off of the rug by the rotating
roller.
U Operation
57
,
Always disconnect the vacuum
cleaner from the wall outlet before
performing any maintenance or
cleaning.
To remove threads and or hair
wrapped around the roller
^
Cut any threads or hair that are
wrapped around the roller using a
pair of scissors.
The cut pieces will be drawn into the
vacuum cleaner the next time it is used.
More obstinate tangles or blockages
can be removed after opening the roller
cover.
^ Loosen the two locking screws using
a coin or screwdriver, and remove the
roller cover.
^ Remove any items stuck in the brush
compartment or wrapped around the
roller brush.
^
Replace the cover and tighten the
locking screws.
