Rotatetopofskidsteertiltarmsslightlyforward.
Placetopofskidsteerhitchplateunderthetopangled
barsonthebalespear.
Slowlyliftskidsteerhitchupuntiltopanglebar(item1)
andbalespearhitchplatehavecometogether.
Rotatetopskidsteerstylehitchbacktoalignbottom
slots(item2)inthebalespearwithlockingpinsinthe
skidsteerhitchplate.
Pushlockhandlesonskidsteerstylehitchdownuntil

Makesuretheskidsteerstylehitchisproperly
attachedtothebalespear.Itmustbesecuredunder
thetopanglebarandlockinghandlesmustbelocked
downwithlockingpinsextendingfullythroughthe
bottomslots.Animproperlyattachedbalespearcan
fall.

skin.
Wearprotectiveglovesandsafetyglassesorgoggles
whenworkingwithhydraulicsystems.Useapieceof
cardboardorwoodratherthanhandswhensearching
forhydraulicleaks.
Ifhydraulicfluidisinjectedintotheskinoreyes,itmust
betreatedbyadoctorfamiliarwiththistypeofinjury
withinafewhoursorgangrenemayresult.DONOT
DELAY.

Acrushinghazardalwaysexistsaroundbalespears
thatcanresultindeathorseriousinjury.
 Keepallpedestrians,pets,andlivestockawayfrom
yourworkarea.Neverallowanyonetogounder
raisedunit.
 Donotdriveuptoanyoneoranimalstandinginfront
ofafixedobjectsuchasawall.Neverassumethat
thebrakeswillstopthemachineintime.
Usea“spotter”whenitishardtoseeinthedirection
youaretravelingandwhenplacingabalethat
obstructsyourvision.Apersonoranimalcouldbe
standinginablindspot.
Spearstraightintothebaleuntilthebaleisfully
againstthespearframe.
Rotatespearpointsup5-10degreesfromhorizontal
tokeepthebaleslightlytiltedbackandagainstthe
hitchframe.Spearsthatarelevelorloweratthefront
thanatthebackcancausethebaletoslideforward
andfall.
Neverliftabalewithoutbalebeingfullyagainstthe
spearframe.Takecaretokeepbalespearpoints
tiltedup5-10degreesfromhorizontalthroughoutthe
rangeofliftmotion.

Donotusebalespearasapersonnelliftingdevice.A
personcanfalloff,becrushedbyoverheadobjects,or
electrocuted.



spearcandamagetheequipmentstructurallyand
causeseriousinjury.
 Alwaysknowtheweightofthebalebeinglifted.
Maximumliftcapacityshouldneverexceedratedlift
capacityofthespear(s).Also,itshouldneverexceed
80%oftheskidsteerortractorratedliftcapacityfor
anattachedfrontloader.Alwaysusethesmaller
numberofthetwoliftcapacitiestodetermine
maximumliftcapacity.
Checkbalespearfrequentlytomakesureitis
properlyattachedandlockingpinsareseatedintheir
notches.
Onlyusebalespeartoliftandtransportbales.
Donotusebalespearasaforklittoliftpalletized
loads
Donotusebalespearforlifting,prying,digging,
pushingorpullingotherobjects.
Donotusebalespearforpullingfenceposts,stumps
orobjectsfromtheground.
Donotusebalespearforliftingthefrontendofthe
skidsteerortractorofftheground.
Thepartsonyourbalespearhavebeenspecially
designedandshouldonlybereplacedwithoriginal
manufacturer’sparts.Alteringtheequipmentcan
adverselyaffectitsperformanceand/orreliability.

Followallsafetyprecautionswhentransportingabale.
Notusingsafetransportingmethodscandamagethe
equipmentandcausedeathorseriousinjury.
 Alwaysusetractorsorskidsteersthatareproperly
ballastedfortheloadbeingtransferred.Notdoingso
canresultinlossofsteeringcontrol.
 Usetractorswithwidefrontaxlesonlyandmoveall
tractorwheelsouttotheirwidestpositionfor
maximumstability.
 Alwayswhentravellingempty,transportwithspearat
asafeheightandanglethatwillnotimpaleaperson
orlivestock.
 Whenstopped,alwayslowerspearpointtothe
groundsothatnopersonorlivestockcanwalk/run
intothespearandbecomeimpaled.Ifspearwillnot
restontheground,pointspeardowntoprotect
peopleandlivestock.
 Alwayskeepbalecenteredhorizontallyonthespear.
Thiswilloptimizestabilitywhiletransporting.
 Alwaystransportwithbaleraisedtoaheightthat
doesnothinderthelineofsightwhendrivingforward.
Whenpossible,placethebalelowtothegroundto
helpmaintainstabilityoftheskidsteer/tractor.
 Reducegroundspeedwhenturningandleave
enoughclearancetoavoidmakingcontactwith
obstaclessuchasbuildings,trees,andfences.
 Transportingbalesoverramps,grades,bumpy,soft,
orslipperysurfacesreducesmachinestabilityandlift
capacity.Transportingandliftingbalesunderthese
conditionsisextremelydangerous.
 Alwaystravelstraightupandstraightdowninclines.
Nevermaketurnswhileonaninclineandalways
keepthespearpointliltedup5-10degreesfrom
horizontalregardlessoftheangleoftheincline.
 Alwaystransportoverrampsandinclinesinexcess
of10degreeswithbaleontheuphillsideofthe
machine.Thiswillrequireonetodriveupandback
downsteepinclines.
 Keepequipmentawayfromelectricalpowerlines.
Placeanorangewarningsignunderoverhead
electricalpowerlinesindicatingtypeofdangerabove.
 Whentravelingonpublicroadsatnightorduringthe
day,useaccessorylightsanddevicesforadequate
warningtooperatorsofothervehicles.Complywith
allfederal,state,andlocallaws.
 Whentravelingonroadways,transportinsuchaway
thatfastermovingvehiclesmaypassyousafely.

Lightweighttractorsandsomeskidsteerloaderswill
requirerearballastforheavyloadstomaintainsteering

BALESPEAROPERATION
PickingupaBale
1.Makesurethebaledoesnotexceedthesmallerof
twoliftcapacitiesbelow:
 Ratedliftcapacityofthespear.
 80%oftheratedliftcapacityoftheskidsteer/tractor
foranattachedfrontloader.
IMPORTANT:Using80%oftheratedliftcapacity
accountsforincreasedloaderstressescausedbythe
addedextensionofthebalespear.Italsoensuresthat
thefronttiresonyourskidsteerortractorarerated
properlyforthejob.
IMPORTANT:Thespearshouldbefullyinsertedinto
thebalebeforeliftingthebale.Pickingupheavybales
withoutthespearfullyinsertedcandamagetheunit
andvoiditswarranty.
2.Stopcompletelybeforeraisingorloweringthespear
tothecorrectheight.Insertspearintothebaleas
follows:
SINGLEBALESPEAR
Locatespearpointatcenterofthebaleorasmall
distanceverticallyabovethecenter.
Checktomakesurethetwolowerspikeswillalso
insertintothebale.Iflowerspikesarepositioned
outsideofthebale,adjustspearheightupuntil
stabilizerspearwillinsertintothebale.
Withspearlevel,drivethespearintothebaleuntil
spearandlowerstabilizerspearsarefullyinserted
andbaleisagainstthehitchframe.
DOUBLEBALESPEAR
Whiledrivinguptothebalecenterthebalespears
horizontallyonthebaleandspearpointsabout1/3of
thewaybelowcenterofbale.
Withspearslevel,drivethespearsintothebaleuntil
spearsarefullyinsertedandbaleisagainstthehitch
frame.
3.Liftbaleupashortdistanceandtiltspearpointsup5
-10degreesfromhorizontally.Checktomakesure
baleisproperlysecuredbeforetraveling.

1.Checkforoverheadobstructions
2.Keepspearpointstiltedup5-10degreesfrom
horizontalthroughouttheliftingrangeoftheloader.
3.Whilestoppedraisethebaletoanappropriate
transportheightwhereyouareabletoseewithout
thebalehinderingthelineofsightgoingforward.
Whenpossible,keepbaleclosetothegroundwhile
traveling.
4.Continuallyscanallsidesforpedestriansorother
traffic.
5.Ifbaleblocksyourview,travelinreverse.
6.Alwaysdriveatasafespeedandslowdownwhen
goingaroundcorners.Avoidsuddenbraking.
7.Leaveenoughclearancewhenturningtoavoid
makingcontactwithobstaclessuchasbuildings,
treesorfences.
8.Whentravelingoveraramporincline,keepbaleon
the“uphill”sideoftheskidsteerortractor.
9.Whenpossible,travelstraightupanddowngrades,
ramps,andinclines.Avoidmakingturnsongrades,
ramps,andinclines.
10.Raiseorlowerbaleonlywhenstopped,neverwhile
traveling.
11.Avoidtransportingloadsonpublicroadways.When
travelingonpublicroadways,transportinsucha
waythatfastermovingvehiclesmaypassyou
safely.
12.Planyourroutetoavoidheavytraffic.
13.Besuretoslowdownwhentravelingoverroughor
hillyterrain.

1.Stopinfrontofdesiredlocationtoplacetheload.
2.Slowlyraisebaletorequiredheight.

destination.
4.Tiltbaleforwardtolevelandlowerbaledowntofinal
restingspot.
5.Beforebacking,checkallsidesforpedestriansor
othertraffic.
6.Oncebalehassettled,backupslowlywhilekeeping
thespear(s)level.
7.Makesurespear(s)clearthebalebeforeturningor
changingheightofspears.
8.Lowerspear(s)downtotransportheightbefore
movingagain.
OPERATION
Unhookingthebalespear
1.Parkskidsteer/tractorwithunitonaflat,levelsolid
surfaceandlowerthebalespearontothesurface.
2.Placetransmissioninpark,setparkbrake,shut
powerequipmentoff,andremoveswitchkey.
3.Unhookspearasfollows:
SkidSteerStyleHitch
a.Pulllockhandlesuptoremovepinsfrombottomslots
inhitchplate.
b.Returntoskidsteer/tractorandtilttopofspearpoints
down5-10degreestothehorizontalandbeginto
lowerthebalespeardownuntilspearpointsorbale
spikesaretouchingtheground.
c.Slowlylowerthebalespearuntilitstopanglebarand
skidsteerhitchhaveseparated.
d.Backskidsteer/orothermachineslowlyawayfrom
thebalespearwhilemakingsureitdoesnotinterfere
withthebalespearhitchplate.

MAINTENANCE
MAINTENANCE:
Properservicingandadjustmentisthekeytothelong
lifeofanyimplement.Withcarefulinspectionand
routinemaintenance,youcanavoidcostlydowntime
andrepair.
Afterusingyourbalespeartoliftafewbales,check
spearandspikestomakesuretheyarestillsecured.
Checkbalespearhitchplatetomakesureitisstill
properlyattachedtotheskidsteerortractorhitch.
Checkspearstomakesuretheyarenotdamaged,
broken,orwornexcessively.Repairorreplaceas
needed.
Alwaysremoveanymaterialthathasbecome
entangledinthespearsand/orspikesbefore
continuingtousethem.
Replaceanyworn,damaged,orillegiblesafetylabels
byobtainingnewlabelsfromyourdealer.
WARNING
TOPREVENTINJURIES:
Frequentlycheckallhardwaretomakecertainitistight
andnotbrokenormissing.Suchhardwarecancause
thebalespeartonotpreformproperlyandmayleadto
breakagethatcancausebodilyinjuryordeath.

STORAGE
Clean,inspect,service,andmakenecessaryrepairsto
thebalespear(s)whenparkingitforlongperiodsand
whenparkingitattheendofaworkingseason.This
willhelpensurethattheunitisreadyforusenexttime.
1. Removeanydirtandgreasethatmayhave
accumulatedonthebalespear.Scrapeoff
compacteddirtandthenwashitssurfacethoroughly
withagardenhose.
2.Inspectbalespearforloose,damaged,orworn
partsandadjustorreplacewhenneeded.
3.Repaintpartswherepaintiswornorscratchedto
preventrust.
4.Replacealldamagedormissingdecals.
5.Storebalespearonalevelsurfaceinaclean,dry
place.Insidestoragewillreducemaintenanceand
makeforalongerlife.
6.Followallunhookinginstructionswhen
disconnectingskidsteerortractorfromthebale
spear
7.Donotallowchildrentoplayonoraroundthestored
balespear.
