CPU Blade
This document provides instructions for installing a replacement CPU
Blade on your SonicWall® NSsp 12000 network security appliance.
The top cover must be removed to access the CPU Blades. Each Blade
is held in place on the appliance chassis with two thumb screws. You
will need a Phillips screwdriver to loosen, then tighten, all of the
screws.
Removing the Defective CPU Blade
To remove the defective Blade from the appliance, complete the
following steps:
1 Cut the tamper evident seal between the top and bottom chassis.
2 Using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the two screws at the rear of
the chassis to open the top cover.
3 Identify the CPU Blade to be replaced and unscrew the thumb
screws on both sides.
4 Remove the CPU Blade, using both thumb screws as handles.
Inserting the CPU Blade into the SonicWall
Appliance
To insert the new CPU Blade into the SonicWall appliance, perform
the following steps:
1 Insert the new CPU Blade into the guide slots in the chassis (one
for each end of the Blade).

2 Press the CPU Blade tightly into the slot connector to seat the
electronic connectors.
NOTE: The SonicWall NSsp 12000 network security appliance
must be powered off when replacing the CPU Blade.

3 Tighten the thumb screws until snug. Use a Phillips screwdriver to
tighten the thumb screws to the point that they cannot be
loosened with your fingers.
4 Replace the top cover.
5 Replace the two screws in the rear of the chassis.
6 Affix the new seal between the top and bottom chassis.
This Blade is for use only with SonicWall appliances indicated below.
Use of this Blade with a SonicWall appliance that is not approved will
void the warranty for that appliance. This Blade is provided as a
replacement Blade, and is provided on an “as is” basis without
warranty of any kind.
