General Information
The Model 12562-109 Voice Annunciation (VA) PCBA Field Installation Kit consists of a printed circuit
board assembly (PCBA), two lithium AA batteries, and three standoffs for mounting the VA PCBA to
the Main PCBA. The kit is designed to be used only in the following GAI-Tronics RED ALERT® Series
Emergency Telephones:

Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Protection
Your telephone may have an earth ground terminal provision. If so, ensure that it is connected to ground
in accordance with all local safety regulations and the National Electrical Code (NEC). Grounding has to
be ensured for safe and stable communications. Do not use long and coiled ground wires. Trim ground
wires to the required length. Use a star configuration whenever possible.
Installation
Removing the Front Cover
Use the Model 233-001 Security Screwdriver (Torx T-25 security tip) to remove the four (or six,
depending on the telephone model) front cover security screws, and remove the front cover after
disconnecting the telephone line.

Installing the Voice Annunciation PCBA
1. Insert the three nylon standoffs on the existing Main PCBA in the locations shown in Figure 1.
2. Align the plugs on the Voice Annunciation PCBA standoffs with the Main PCBA as shown in Figure
1 and snap in standoffs.
3. Install the two AA lithium batteries in the correct +/ orientation.
4. Reconnect the telephone line.
5. Refer to Pub. 42004-438, RED ALERT® Installation Manual (“Voice Annunciation Option” section)
for set-up and playback instructions.
6. Use the Model 233-001 Security Screwdriver (Torx T-25 security tip) to re-install the four (or six,
depending on the telephone model) front cover security screws (10–12 in-lbs. of torque
recommended).
