This Quick Start Guide covers the basics for inial setup and usage of your
SuperNova. For complete instrucons on all features and funconality, refer to
the device User Guide (preloaded in the device) aer you have completed the
device setup process. To open the User Guide, tap on the User Guide cover on
the Home screen (in the My Books widget), or tap the Barnes & Noble
applicaon icon
tap on the User Guide cover in My Library.

Firmware Updates
IMPORTANT: If prompted, you should ALWAYS accept rmware updates
for this Android

device. This is extremely important because changes
and improvements are consistently being made to the Android

Unlocking the Screen
To unlock the screen aer sleep mode, nger-slide the Unlock bar
towards the Sound bar

To extend or reduce the delay for sleep mode, at the boom of the Home
screen, tap
Display Screen meout.
Touch-Screen Navigation
The touch-screen allows for quick, easy and convenient navigaon for all
applicaons using the following navigaon methods:
Tap = simple touch and release of your nger.
Press-hold & scroll = press your nger on the screen, hold in place and
then slide up or down to scroll the screen (i.e., scrolling on B&N Bookstore
and web pages).
Finger-slide = touch & slide your nger across the screen and release (i.e.,
turning pages in a book).
Touch & hold = touch your nger and hold in place unl a response by the
applicaon.
Touch & drag = touch & hold an item, and without liing your nger, move
your nger on the screen unl you reach the target posion.
Pinch-Screen Zoom
This device supports the “pinch-screen” zoom feature to zoom in and out on
applicaon screens.
Zoom in: Spread nger and thumb, place on screen and “pinch” together.
Zoom out: Place nger and thumb together on screen and slide apart.

Navigation Buttons
The navigaon buons at the boom of the device can be used as follows:
HOME
~
Return to the Home screen from any applicaon (leaves apps
running in background).
~
Press and hold to display the most recent apps you launched;
tap on an app icon to re-launch.
MENU
~
Display the Home screen Funcon Menu.
~
Display individual applicaon Menu opons.
BACK
~
In applicaons, return to previous screens or EXIT the applicaon.
~
Clear pop-up menus.
~
In the Reader, turns pages back.
SEARCH
~ Perform quick Web, Apps and Music searches.
~ In the Reader, turns pages forward.
Getting Started
1 Charge the device
Plug the power adapter into an electrical wall outlet, and then connect
to the device to fully charge the baery before use (approx. 5 hours).
Youcanusethedevice’sfullfunconalityifthebaeryischarging
via the power adapter.

You can also charge the baery using the USB cable connected to a
powered-on computer or a USB power adapter when the device is o
or in sleep mode. If you want to charge the device via USB cable while
using the device (i.e.,eReaderinnight-readmode) you must reduce the
screen brightness to near the lowest level or the device will not charge.

IftheLEDblinkswhilethedeviceisconnectedviaUSBcable,you
can either increase the screen brightness to begin discharging
thebaery(LEDgoeso)orreducethescreenbrightnesstostart

IMPORTANT: When charging with the USB cable, the required charge
me is longer than when using the AC adapter.
2 Turn the Device On
1. Press & hold the power buon unl the Pandigital logo appears. If
you are charging the device, the Pandigital logo appears aer the
baery icon appears.
2. During the boot up process, the Pandigital logo is displayed a second
me, followed by the Pandigital splash screen, and then upon
compleon the setup wizard Welcome screen is displayed.

3 Initial Setup
To set up your device and register accounts, follow the setup wizard
prompts as they appear on the screen.
Select your Desired Language
Accept End User License Agreement
YoumustaccepttheAgreementtoproceedwiththesetup.
Set Up Your Wi-Fi Network
IMPORTANT:IfyouskiptheWi-Fisetup,thesetupwizard
automacallyskipsthestepsforsengupyourGmailandBarnes&
Nobleaccounts.RefertotheUserGuideforinstruconsonseng
this up later.
Tap Wi-Fi. When the check mark turns green, a list of local Wi-Fi
networks is displayed. Select your network and enter the password.
When the device connects to the network, a “Connected to...
message is displayed under Wi-Fi.
IfyouareconnecngviaapublicWi-Fihotspot,youmaybe
promptedtoenterthehotspotlogininformaonpriortohaving
anacveinternetconnecon.
Idenfy your News Preference
This determines the default RSS news feed that will be displayed in
the InTouch applicaon.
Set up Gmail and Barnes & Noble Accounts
Thiswillnotappearinthesetupwizardifyoudidnotsetupyour
Wi-Finetwork.
IfyouenteranincorrectGmailaccountorpassword,a“Network
ConneconTimeout”errormessageisdisplayed.
ToaccessyourGmailviatheEmailapplicaon,youmustalsoset
uptheaccountinthatapp.RefertotheEmailseconoftheUser
Guide.

Idenfy Your Locaon
Youmustselectalocaonbeforeyoucanproceed;thisdatais
usedbyapplicaonsthatdisplayinformaonbasedonaspecic
geographiclocaon.
Setup Complete
Tap Start to display the Home screen and begin using your device.
4 Set Date & Time
IMPORTANT: Many applicaons require the Date and Time to be set
correctly according to your geographic locaon in order to connect with
your accounts or display correct data.
1. On the Home screen, tap the Sengs icon
Date & me.
2. Set the me zone, date and me according to your locaon.
3. Press to return to the Home screen.

Widgets (i.e.,Search) and Shortcuts can be added to the Home screen.
The My Books widget shows the most recently read books, magazine
and newspaper. Simply tap on a cover to open the media le again.
The My Wi-Fi widget allows quick access to seng up and connecng
to a local Wi-Fi network. Aer successful connecon, simply tap the
globe icon to launch the browser.

On the Home screen, tap the Barnes & Noble applicaon icon.
If you don’t have an exisng Barnes & Noble account,
create and register with a valid credit card.
Tap the B&N Bookstore tab. Therstme,youarepromptedforyour
Barnes&Noblelogininfoifyoudidnotenteritduringtheinialdevicesetup.
Aer a successful login, the Barnes & Noble Top 100 Books are displayed.
To view the Newspapers and Magazines, tap Favorites: Favorites.
Select your desired category.
Shop and purchase Books, Newspapers and Magazines, or get Free Samples.
Toscrollthestorelisngs,press-hold&scrollthescreen.
Aer a successful sync with your account, your media is added to your
B&N Library. Tap a tle’s Download buon to download to My Library
(SDcardisrequiredtodownloadDRPmagazines).
In My Library, tap on a tle cover to open it.

Use the Reader to display your eBooks and magazines.
1. Tap the Barnes & Noble application icon.
2. In My Library, tap on a media listing to open it in the Reader.
