Power Clamp Wiremount Connectors
1.0 Recommended Tools
1.1 For cable and wire cutting:
a. Standard cable and wire cutting tool which
can provide a sharp and clean cut to the
wire end
1.2 For IDC termination (Figure 1):
a. Standard slip joint pliers which can provide
a parallel closing action
b. Pliers that can provide parallel closing
action. These are the preferred tool.
Figure 1
2.0 Cable or Discrete Wire
Preparation
2.1 Cut the cable or discrete wire to desired length.
2.2 Peel the cable jacket. Expose one inch (2.5 cm)
or more of wire.
2.3 Spread out the individual wire tips to the
approximate width of the connector and trim
off wire tips so the ends of the wire are even
when inserted into the connector. Wire should
be cut clean and have minimal deformation at
wire tip.
2.4 Verify wire gauge and diameter matches
specifications for connector. Each connector
is marked with appropriate wire gauge and
wire diameter range. This information can also
be found on the product technical data sheets
or drawings.
Figure 2
3.0 Wire Insertion
3.1 When electric wire is thin, it can easily be
inserted while the cover is in the horizontal
position. Insert the wire (Figure 3).
Figure 3
3.2 When the electric wire is thick, the insulation
displacement contacts (IDC) inside the cover
may interfere with wire insertion. If this
occurs, the cover can be raised at an angle to
eliminate interference (Figures 4 and 5).
a. Raise the cover.
b. Insert the electric wires.
c. Carefully return the cover to the original
horizontal position. Each IDC should align
with the opening in the cover. Do not force
the cover as this may bend the IDCs.

4.0 Termination to IDC
4.1 Using one of the recommended tools, apply
pressure to the center of the cover. The cover
should move vertically into the connector body
(Figures 7, 8, 9 and 10). The most effective
tool is a parallel-jaw type pliers as seen in
Figure 11.

4.2 After pushing the cover center, use the pliers to
vertically push down both edges of the cover
(Figures 12 and 13).

Figure 13
5.0 Verification and Inspection
5.1 The cover edges contain latches that provide
retention of the cover to the body. Verify the
latches are engaged on both the left and right
cover edges (Figures 14 and 15).
Figure 14
Figure 15
5.2 The cover should be fully seated into the body.
The top of the cover should be flush with
the top of the connector body on front, back,
left and right edges. If the cover is not fully
seated or latches not fully engage, then press
with pliers again to securely engage the cover
(Figures 16 and 17).
