2. Appliance
The appliance is built from recyclable
materials. If you decide to scrap the washing
machine act responsibly and observe local
waste disposal bylaws. Cut off the power
cord so that the appliance cannot be
connected to the mains.
3. Use
x Save water and electricity by washing with a
full machine load whenever possible (exact
amount depends on the programme).
x For averagely to lightly soiled wash use a
programme without a prewash cycle.
x Use low temperatures for lightly soiled
laundry or use the quick wash, if available.
x Press the half load/lightly soiled button
(depending on model) when washing part
loads, and reduce the amount of detergent.
x Ifyouintendtodrythewashinadryer,

SORTING THE WASH
1. Sort the wash according to...
x Type of fabric / care label symbol
Cotton, mixed fibre, synthetic, wool.
x Colour
Divide whites and coloureds.
Wash new coloured items separately.
x Size
Itemsofdifferentsizesinthesameloadwill
improve the washing action and tend to
distribute more uniformly in the drum.
x Sensitivity
Wash delicate articles separately: use special
programmes for pure new wool
, curtains
and other delicate articles.
Always remove curtain glides or wash
curtains and glides inside a net bag. Only
wash fabrics that are suitable for machine
washing. Wash stockings, belts and other
small items in special net bags for washing
machines or in a pillow-case with zip-
fastener.
2. Remember to empty pockets
Coins, safety pins and similar can damage
laundry and the washing machine.
3. Fasteners
Close zips and fasten buttons or hooks;
loose belts or ribbons should be tied
together.
STAIN REMOVAL
x Blood, milk, egg, and other organic
substances are generally dissolved by the
action of enzymes in normal detergent.
x To remove red wine, coffee, tea, grass and
fruit stains, etc. add a biological stain
removing agent to
or add bleach to
(if provided) of the detergent drawer.
x Particularly stubborn stains can be treated
before the wash.
LOADING THE WASH
q
. Open the door.
w
. Load the drum one article at a time without
overfilling.

ADDING DETERGENT
CHOOSING THE RIGHT
DETERGENT
The type of detergent depends on
x the type of fabric (cottons, synthetics, delicate
items, wool)
x colour
x wash temperature
x degree and type of soiling
You can use any make of detergent
recommended for domestic washing machines.
DETERGENT DOSAGES
Follow the dosages on the detergent package
in accordance with:
x degree and type of soiling
x size of wash
- full load: according to manufacturers’
instructions
- part load: 3/4 of the normal amount.
- minimum load (about 1 kg): 1/2 the
amount used for full load
x water hardness in your area (request
information from the water company).
Soft water requires less detergent than hard
water.
WATER HARDNESS TABLE
WATER HARDNESS CLASSIFICATION GERMAN DEGREES FRENCH DEGREES
CLASS
o
dH mmol
o
fH
1 soft 0-7 0-1,3 0-15
2 medium 7-14 1,3-2,5 15-25
3 hard 14-21 2,5-3,8 25-37
4 very hard more than 21 more t han 3,8 more than 37
USING THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF
DETERGENT
x A spotlessly clean wash is not possible if you
use too little detergent. Too little detergent
will also lead to increased scale deposits
which can damage the heating element and
the drum exterior.
x To prevent rinsing problems when using
concentrated washing powder, use the
special dispenser supplied with the detergent
and place it inside the drum.
x Whitish residues from washing powder are
caused by insoluble water softeners used in
modern phosphate-free detergents.
- If you notice this problem, shake or brush
the affected items or use a liquid detergent.
x Add bleach in accordance with
manufacturer’s instructions. Overdose of
bleach will damage the wash.
x Keep detergents and additives in a dry place
out of reach of children.
x Use only detergents and additives specifically
produced for domestic washing machines.
x If you use water softeners, descaling agents,
or whiteners, make sure that they are
suitable for washing machine use.
x Do not use solvents (trilene, benzine, etc.).
x Do not use the appliance to wash solvent-
treated fabrics.
x When using concentrated fabric softeners
dilute by adding water in the detergent
drawer up to the max. level mark.

ADDING DETERGENT
ADDING DETERGENT AND
OTHER PRODUCTS
1. Pull out the detergent drawer. Depending on
the model, the detergent drawer may have
three or four compartments.
2. Pour in the detergent
x Programmeswithprewash
x Main wash only
For liquid detergent:
Remove the coloured insert out of the
dispenser and fit it in compartment
.
The graduated scale on the siphon shows
the dosage.
x Fabric softeners, etc.
(no more than the “max” mark [3
compartments] or up to “100 ml” [4
compartments])
x Bleaching agents (if compartment is
present)
(no more than the “max” mark)
x Stain removers
x Water-softeners
(water hardness categories 3 and 4)
x Starch (dissolved in water)
3. Bleach
Liquid bleach (hypochlorite) can be used in
two different ways:
A. Conventional method
x Pour bleach into dispenser compartment
(dependent on model).
x Add detergent to main wash dispenser
compartment
.
x Select a programme and temperature and
start the appliance.
Detergent and bleach are automatically
delivered to the laundry at the appropriate
time:
detergent is added to the main wash,
while bleach is added during the second
cold rinse.
B. Pre-bleach method
x Fit the coloured insert out of the dispenser
into main wash compartment
and
pour in liquid bleach (no more than 120
ml).
x Select the rapid programme 4 (Cotton-
Synthetics).
x Set the temperature selector knob to
“MIN”.
Important:
Do not select a higher temperature than
“MIN” because this could damage your
laundry or appliance.
x Start the appliance.
Youcandoanormalwashafterthis“pre-
bleach” cycle, adding more laundry that does
not require bleach treatment. Add detergent
to the main wash dispenser compartment
and start a wash programme. Because
heavily soiled articles have already been
given a pre-bleach treatment, you can use a
lower temperature for the main wash and
save on power consumption.
If the appliance does not have the specific
bleach compartment
only the pre-bleach
method is possible.
Important:
Use bleach only when washing bleachable
fabrics.
4. Close the detergent drawer completely.
