In taking an entirely fresh approach to lug design,
our craftsmen have come up with an ideal design
that delivers greater sound performance and
convenience. These new lugs hook onto bolts that
are attached to the shell, which allows the lug
casings themselves to "float" eliminating any direct
contact between the lug and the shell. As this design
reduces the amount of hardware actually attached to
the drum shell, the shell is allowed to vibrate freely. On an 11-inch shell the lug bolts, as well as
the YESS mounting system, are all attached to the shell at its nodal point to greatly minimize
influence on shell resonance to deliver maximum tone.
Another benefit these lugs provide is when it comes time to change the head, it is no longer
necessary to remove the tuning bolts from the lugs to remove the hoop. Just loosen the bolts
enough to slide the lugs off of the bolts and the hoop comes right off. No more lost washers, etc.
and head changes can be done quicker and easier than before.

The new claw design found on the
Absolute drums offers quick tuning,
smooth head changes, and noise free
performance. The tuning bolt utilizes a
wing type bolt that aids in tuning the bass
drum. Inside of the newly designed zinc
die cast craw is a plastic ring insert that
keeps the bolt from loosening and falling
off. The inner side of the claws is given a
plastic covering that prevents noise and
offers protection to the hoop from
damage.

Newly designed aluminum diecast hoops are
precision designed to withstand rigorous
performance. Aluminium is light in weight and
eliminates the high frequency noise (overtones)
often found in other materials used in hoop
design. These hoops hold the head securely in
place, provide less sound loss, and deliver a
more open sound with greater focus.
New bass drum legs feature larger diameter
pipes that deliver increased stability and
durability. Height adjustment is easily secured
with a tuning key and the spur easily slides out
with a slide lever. Even with the bass drum set
up you can tell the spur's position by looking
at the lever. Along with the increase in pipe
diameter, the base section uses the same
system for securing as found on our cymbal
stands to provide more stable and secure
positioning of the legs.
Providing minimum mount to shell contact,
the Yamaha Enhanced Sustain System
(YESS) delivers increased resonance plus
maximizes dynamic range and sustain.
Mounts are attached at the drum’s nodal
point* where shell vibration is minimally
reduced while a nylon bushing in the rod
clamp offers enhanced stability. This system
is also used on our floor tom brackets to
deliver maximum sustain.
Shells in the Absolute Series Drums are available in
three different types, Maple, Birch, and Beech. All
shells, regardless of the wood type, are created using
our exclusive Air Seal System to ensure that each and
every shell is perfectly round and of uniform
thickness. All shells feature the same ply design but
ply thickness varies between the woods to bring out
the best of tone and character of each wood.

In addition to the single air hole on the top of the shell on the
beater head side, the Absolute Series provides four more holes
around the front end of the shell. The extra air holes allow air to
escape smoothly reducing backlash on the beater head as air
returns from the front. For the same reason, 16-inch and 18-inch
floor tom shells are designed with three air holes instead of the
usual one. (Only Nouveau lug model) Air holes and Nouveau
Lugs are all positioned at the shell’s nodal point to minimize
influence and deliver maximum resonance from the shell.
A pipe post stabilizer providing height
adjustment on the bass drum’s pedal
side ensures that the beater makes
contact at the head’s center. The
stabilizer fits into a pipe clamp on the
underside of the drum and is
equipped with a memory clamp for
quick and precise
setup. A pair of
supports provides
added stability.
Yamaha’s legendary ball mount &
clamp has been providing drummers
with extremely flexible and stable tom
placement for over 20 years.
Consisting of a large resin ball and
wing bolt,
this ingenious system
incorporates
an internal retaining
plate to deliver maximum stability
that will withstand the very rigorous
performance.

Soon after its introduction, the Maple Custom series quickly became the new
standard for professional maple drums.
All Maple Shell
Maple offers a warm sound with full sustain and
outstanding projection. Our original Air-Seal
System shells feature select maple wood cut in
plies, positioned with staggered diagonal seams,
and sealed together with evenly distributed air
pressure. This process ensures that every drum
shell is in round and of uniform thickness. It also
provides the shell with superior tone quality and
durability. Floor tom and tom shells use a 7-ply
design. Additional plies in the 10-ply bass drum
shells help produce a low fundamental tone.
Lugs
Yamaha's small gold lugs consist
of a precision-machined lug nut
inserted in a small springless
casing. Attached to the drum shell
at its nodal point by a single bolt,
the shell is allowed to vibrate
freely. A special nylon insert
prevents tension rods from
becoming loose during play.

Birch shells produce a lower fundamental tone than
maple. Their crisp sound quality with short attack
decay make them optimal for recording situations.
Our Air-Seal System shells feature select birch wood
cut in plies, positioned with staggered diagonal
seams, and sealed together with evenly distributed air
pressure. This process ensures that every drum shell
is in round and of uniform thickness while providing
superior tone quality and durability.

Deeper Bass Drums Deliver Power and Tone
24, 22, and 20-inch bass drums are all designed with a deeper
17-inch depth to create a heavier, deeper tone and draw greater
power, and volume out of the bass drum’s shell. Likewise, the
18-inch shell uses a 15-inch depth to gain the same benefits.
Universal Size
Shells are designed deeper than thin shells, and thinner than deep
shells. This "best of both worlds" approach offers great versatility
making the drums easy to use in a wide range of musical styles.
Unique Floor Tom Sizes
Floor toms are available in 18 x 16, 16 x 15, and 14 x 13-inch
configurations. This unique size lineup makes it easier to find the
right size that fits with your tom tom selection.

The 6-ply bass drum, floor tom, and tom tom shells
are all crafted with Yamaha’s original "Air Seal
System" to ensure the utmost in quality. We
revived
the once common 60 rounded edge and combined it with
a triple-flanged hoop

The unique chrome body lug casings are fixed
to the drum shell with only a single bolt allowing

The series utilizes new large diameter legs like those found on
the Absolute Nouveau series drums. These thicker legs are
designed to provide greater stability and durability. The spur is
designed with a lever that makes sliding the spur tip in and out

for the first time use of oak in a drum shell. As
in our Maple and Birch series, this process de-
livers a shell that’s perfectly round, with uni-

material provides, we rethought the design of

Optional
Yamaha has refined its Nouveau lug
design, utilizing FRC (Fiber Reinforced
Composite) on the bolt to which the lug
is hooked. The lugs incorporate a
unique floating design that eliminates
contact between the lug casing and
shell body to let the shell vibrate freely
and reduce damping. Its design also
makes for quick and easy head changes
since you no longer need to completely
remove the tuning bolts from the lugs.
This keeps your washers from getting
lost as well.
Air hole, YESS and bolts on the shell side are all
attached to the shell at its nodal point to greatly minimize
influence on shell resonance to deliver maximum tone.

wood and is accented with an inlay that
is of the same color as the shell to
enhance the
overall look of
the drums.
The accompanying wood snare drum is available
in either 14"x5 1/2" or 13"x5" dimensions.
A pair of Yamaha's famed Ball Clamp Mounts and Tom Holders mounted on
the Rydeen's bass drum offer maximum freedom when setting up the drums.

"Why don't you make a real drum kit for
kids?" That request by Manu Katché caught
our designer's ears and had them designing
this new compact drum kit. Compact, it is
designed for kids but it is far from being a
toy. A 16"x16" 9-ply bass drum with a 6-ply
13"x13" floor tom, 10"x7" tom and 12"x5"
snare are all made of quality Philippine Ma-
hogany using our original Air Seal System to
produce shells that are perfectly round.
Compact and easily transportable, these
drums deliver tone that is so unbelievably
real you might just be tempted to use it on
gigs of your own.
