WARNING There follows important safety advice which must be
heeded in order to prevent bodily injury or material
damage.
Installation instructions Instructions follow regarding mechanical or electrical
connection.
Programming instructions After connecting most of the control elements,
the control unit must first be programmed.
Operational check After connecting and programming most of the con-
trol elements, it is advisable to test the function of the
control unit. Any fault can then be detected immedia-
tely and time is saved in trouble-shooting.

This control unit may only be connected and put into operation by qualified and
suitably trained specialist personnel. For the purpose of this description qualified
and suitably trained specialist personnel are persons who are adequately instructed
or supervised by qualified electricians and are thus in a position to recognize the
hazards that electricity can cause. Moreover, they must hold qualifications consistent
with the work being carried out, in particular they must be
- familiar with the relevant regulations governing electrical engineering,
- have received training in the use and maintenance of adequate safety equipment,
- as well as first aid training.
Before carrying out any cabling work, it is essential to disconnect the control unit from
the mains supply.Observe local safety regulations!
Always lay mains cable and control cable separately! Controlvoltage 24 V DC.
Before putting the control unit into operation, it is essential to ensure that there are no
persons or objects within the door's area of operation, since a number of settings set
the door in motion.
All available emergency command devices must be tested prior to initial operation.
After installation and initial operation, those persons or their representatives responsible
for operating the door system must be shown how the door system works!
No cables may be fed into the top of the control unit.
Special note for installation according to protection category IP 65:
At the very latest following initial operation, the cable with plug allowing connection
to the mains must be replaced by a direct mains connection. At the same time a mains
isolator switch must be fitted.
Non-compliance with these warning and safety instructions can
lead to bodily injury and material damage.
If the Control 70 control unit is used in conjunction with a rolling
shutter or grid, wehre in the OPEN direction there is a risk of being
rolled up in lintel region of the shutter/grid, the ”OPEN press-and-
release” function may only be activated in combination with a sui-
table roll-up safety device.
17
Notes
3.1 General information:
The Control 70 control unit consists of two components:
a) The base unit allows control of a rolling shutter operator in dead man's
mode (press-and-hold). For the OPEN direction, the press-and-release OPEN
operating mode can be set via the S7 programming switch.
b) By means of an extension unit which is plugged into the base unit, the function
range of the control unit can be extended. By connecting a closing edge safety
device with optosensor, the press-and-release mode can also be used for the
CLOSE direction. Photocells make it possible to monitor the door's through-
traffic area as well as provide safe opening/closing, e.g. roll-up safety device for
rolling grid operators. An automatic timer with programmable stay-open and
warning phases is integrated.
3.2 Control unit - door operator connection
Make the connections in the control unit and the door operator in
accordance with the wiring diagram extract fig. B/1:

The control unit features a static current circuit. If a malfunction occurs in any
of the safety devices, the static current circuit immobilizes power operation of
the door.
Elements within this static current circuit are the STOP buttons and if an
extension unit is fitted, the safety edge System on the door leaf.
Insert the mains plug of the control unit into a site electric socket in accordance
with CEE standard 16 A.
Check that the voltage at the electric socket corresponds with that given on the
control unit's data plate.
For direct mains connection, a mains isolator switch must be fitted.
Ensure that the rotary field is of clockwise rotation.
Operational check of the mains connection and operator cabling
Switch the S7 programming switch to the OFF position. This selects the
press-and-hold operating mode for the OPEN direction.
With the following settings, it is important to ensure that the door is NEVER
allowed to close or open fully. Halt the door at least 50 cm before it reaches its
mechanical travel limits by pressing the STOP button (16) or by releasing the
pressed control button.
• Half-open the door by hand.
• Switch on at the mains.
Þ
The VOLTAGE control light (1) should light up.
— If this is not the case, look up section "no voltage" in the
test instructions.
• Press the OPEN button (5).
Þ The door should open.
— The door closes: reverse the phases.
— The door doesn't move: look up section
"no response on impulse" in the test instructions.
Operational check of the safety circuit
• Actuate each safety device separately.
Þ Power operation of the door should now no longer be possible.
— If this is not the case, check the electrical connection of
the respective safety device.
• Switch off at the mains.

3.3 Adjusting the limit switches
Depending on the operator type, various limit switch units can be used.
Details on the exact limit switch design as well as the connection plan can be
found in the documentation supplied with the operator.
Adjusting the notched limit switches
Operate the door in dead man's mode (press-and-hold) until it has reached its
CLOSE travel limit. Set the switch cam on the CLOSE limit switches so that the
limit switch is fully actuated. Lock the switch cam with the enclosed hexagon
socket wrench for M5 (SW 2.5 mm). Open the door approx. 1 m wide, then
allow it to return to its CLOSE travel limit. The travel limit can be re-adjusted
with the fine adjustment screw. Set the CLOSE safety switch in such a way that
after travelling beyond its limit switch on account of a defect, false connection
or reversed rotational directions the door still comes to a safe halt.
Now allow the door to reach its OPEN travel limit. Carry out adjustment of the
limit switch and the safety switch by following the procedure described above.
At regular intervals check the setting and the function of the limit switches,
in particular that of the safety switches.

4. Connection and initial operation of the extensions
4.1 External control elements can activate varios functions:
STOP: The operator can no longer be actuated, a moving door is
brought to a halt.
OPEN: The door is opened.
CLOSE: The door is closed.
After connecting the extension unit, the function range of the control buttons is
extended.
IMPULSE: The door is opened (exception: if the door has already reached
its opening limit, it then closes). A moving door cannot be halted.
If the automatic timer is switched on, a closing door is halted
and then opened again.
If the door has already reached its opening limit,
the OPEN phase (time the door stays open) is extended.
OPEN: If the door has already reached its opening limit,
the OPEN phase is extended.
CLOSE: If the door has already reached its opening limit,
the OPEN phase is reduced.
4.1.1 Connecting external control elements with system plugs
Examples for external control elements with system plugs:
• Command Series push buttons
• Command 311 and 411 key switches
Note: If connecting several key switches or code keypads (only with
extension unit) the coupling for plug systems (for series connection),
item no. 562 849,is required. Details on connecting several control
elements can be found in the connection plan supplied with the
coupling.

4.4 Lighting (special function relay) (item no. 153 044)
Function: On starting the operator, the relay is switched on for a brief moment
(wipe impulse).
Connecting the relay output circuit board
Note: You may find it necessary to add a small system housing with circuit
board carrier (item no. 153 220) to the control box.
Always attach the flat-cable plugs so that the cable is angled in the
direction of the circuit board edge.
Connect the relay circuit board and the control unit using the enclosed flat cable.

Connecting the control elements
Operational check:
Operate the external control element
Þ The desired function should be carried out.
4.3 Connecting the signal lights (Control 220, item no. 152 814)
Function: If connected to an Control 70 base control unit (without extension unit),
the signal lights light up during power movement of the door.
In conjunction with the extension unit, they flash during power movement
of the door. If the automatic timer is switched on, the signal lights flash in
addition during the warning phase.
