1. INTRODUCTION

The ESAB Aristo Air system is a powered respiratory system for use with ESAB Aristo Tech weld shields to provide respiratory protection.

The equipment consists of

2. APPROVALS

0700000360&0700000361)TH3Plterandheavydutyhose,itprovidesclassTH3protectionagainstdusts,particlesandfumesandoffersa

nominalprotectionfactorof500.

AllothervariantsareclassiedasTH2protectionagainstdusts,particlesandfumesandofferanominalprotectionfactorof50.

6. APPLICATIONS, LIMITATIONS AND USAGE

Beforeusingthesystemitisessentialthatyoureadtheseinstructionsandensurethatthecorrectequipmenthasbeenselected.

Alwaysbeawareofthelimitationsofuseoftheequipmentandthatitisappropriatetothetask.

Thissystemisintendedfortheprotectionoftheuserfromweldingdustandfumeasdenedintheapprovalssectionabove.Thesystemshould

notbeusedinconditionswhereconcentrationsofgaseouscontaminantsexceedtheoccupationalexposurelimit.

Somecountriesrequiretheuseofassignedratherthannominalprotectionfactors.InformationonassignedcanbefoundinEN529“Respiratory

protectivedevices.Recommendationsforselection,use,careandmaintenance.Guidancedocument”orinyourlocalregulations.

Thesystemisonlyrecommendedforuseinthetemperaturerange-5ºto+55ºCandinconditionswhererelativehumiditydoesnotexceed90%

(<90%RH).

Warning!

• IftheseinstructionsarenotfollowedortheunitisusedincorrectlythesystemmaynotofferprotectiontoEN12941.

• InapoweroffsituationtheheadpieceoffersnorespiratoryprotectionandrapidCO2build-upandoxygendepletionmayalsoresult.

 Thisisanabnormalsituation.

• Thetoftheheadpieceshouldbecheckedbeforeuse.Refertothespecicinstructionssuppliedwiththeheadgearfortting&

maintenance instructions.

• Athighworkratesthepressureinsidetheheadpiecemaybecomenegativeatpeakinhalation.

• Thesystemshouldnotbeusedinoxygendecientorenrichedatmospheres.

• Thesystemshouldnotbeusedinareaswherethereisanimmediatedangertohealthorlife(IDLH)

• Theusermustensurethatthenatureofthehazardisidentiedandthatthesystemoffersanadequatelevelofprotection.

• Thisunitshouldnotbeusedwherethenatureofthehazardisunknown.

• ThisunitisNOTintrinsicallysafeandthereforeshouldnotbeusedinexplosiveatmospheres.

• Assembly,maintenanceandttingmustbedoneinacleanairarea.

• Beawarethatthehoseprotrudesfromthebackoftheheadpieceandtakecaretoavoidsnagging.

• Inhighwindvelocitiestheassumedprotectionlevelsmaynotbeachieved.

• Athigheraltitudesabove500metrestheBlockedlteralarmmaysoundprematurely(contactESABforfurtherinformation).

• Usedwiththatlter.TheclassicationforEN12941willbeginwith“TH”

• Filtersshouldonlybettedtothepowerunit,donotattempttotthemdirectlytoahoodorhelmet.

7. PREPARATION FOR USE

Allpreparationsandmaintenanceshouldbecarriedoutinacleanenvironment.

Battery (0700 002 164)

TheAristoairpowerunitisttedwithare-chargeableLi-ion(Lithiumion)batterypack.

Batteriesaresuppliedinadischargedcondition,andmustinitiallybechargedbeforeuse.

Allrechargeablebatteriesdeteriorateovertimeandshouldbereplacedwhentheynolongerlasttherequiredduration.

Thebatterymayrequiremorethanonefullchargebeforereachingoptimumcapacity.

Thebatterieshaveanexpectedlifeof500chargeswhenchargedinaccordancewiththeseinstructions.

ThesebatteriesmustonlybeusedonAristoAirpowerunit.

Batteriesmustbechargedwithbatterycharger(0700002165)–theuseofanyotherchargermayresultindamagetoboththebatteryand

charger.

Batteriesmaybechargedonorofftheunit.

Exactdurationwilldependonanumberoffactorssuchaslterstate,batteryage/condition,temperatureandairowleveltowhichtheunitis

beendriven.

Typicalbatterydurationfromfullcharge-7-8Hours@210l/min11-12Hours@175l/min

Important:Neverchargeabatteryinanatmosphere,whichis,orcouldbecomepotentiallyexplosive

Battery Charger (0700 002 165)

OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Disconnectchargerfromelectricitysupply.

2. Toattachanalternativeplugtype-Pushupswitchmarked“Open”inthedirectionofthearrow,theplugwillpopout.Insertthe

 plug(suitablefortheelectricitysupply)intothechargerpushingrmlyuntilit“clickshome”(Fourdifferentchangeableplugsare

 suppliedwiththecharger(UK,SAA,EUandUS),onlyusethecorrectplugforyourelectricitysupply.

3. Connectchargertoelectricitysupplyviasuitableelectricalsocket.

4. Connecttheplugofthebatterychargerintothesocketofthebatterypack.

5. TheLED(ontopofthecharger)willilluminateREDtoindicatechargingprocessandwillchangetoGREENwhenthebatterypack

 isfullycharged.(Whenthebatterypackisfullycharged,thebatterychargerwillautomaticallyswitchtoaminimummaintenance

 charge).

6. Unplugthechargerandremovethebatteriesfromtheunitwhennotinuse

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS:

1. UseonlyLithium-ion(Li-ion)batterypacksinthecharger.Donotattempttorechargeanynon-rechargeablebatterypacks.

2. Thischargerisdesignedforindooruseonly.

3. Donotexposethechargertohightemperaturesorallowmoistureorhumidityofanykindtocomeintocontactwiththecharger.Do

 notcoverchargeratanytime.

4. Thechargershouldnotbeusedbyminors.

5. Donotattempttoopenthecharger.Repairsshouldonlybecarriedoutbyaqualiedservicecentre.

6. Alwaysdisconnectthechargerifitisnotinuse.

7. Neveruseanextensioncordoranyattachmentifnotrecommendedbymanufacturer.Thismaycauseariskofre,electricshock

 orinjurytopersons.

NoteIftheAristoAirpowerunitistobestoredwithoutuseforaperiodoftime,thebatterymustbedetachedfromthepowerunit.

Main lter

WARNING This ARISTO Air power unit offers NO protection unless a Main lter is tted.

Care should be taken when handling lters.

Do not touch the pleated paper lter medium.

Do not use lters with damaged paper lter medium.

Do not use lters after their expiry date.

Do not use lters with no or damaged lter seal.

Do not attempt to clean a lter, once fully loaded they must be replaced.

Filters should be tted as follows:

RemovethefrontcoverbyreleasingtheretainingclipononesideoftheAristoAirunitbyhand(donotusetools).

Fittheltersquarelyintothepowerunit.

Placepre-lter(ifused)insidethefrontcover.

Takingcarethatthecoverdoesnottouchtheltermediawhenbeingclosed-Locatethecovercentrallyoverthelterandbypressingdownon

thecentreofthecoverthecoverretainingclipswillsnapintoplace(checktoensurethatcoverhasbeenpositionedcorrectly).

8. Principle of operation

TheAristoairpowerunitisdesignedtoexceedtherequirementsofEN12941inthatitwillprovideaowrateofatleast170l/minforatleast4

hoursunderallconditions,assumingafullychargedbatteryatstart.(Minimumdesignduration=4hours).

ThedefaultairowfromtheAristopowerunitis175l/min.

TheAristoairpowerunitwillgiveanaudibleandvisualalarmwheneitherthecloggingoftheltercausestheairowtodroptotheminimum

designowrateorwhenthebatteryvoltagedropstoalevelbelowwhichitcouldnotsafelypowertheunit.

TheAristoAirhasanairowindicatorandbatterylevelindicator.

TheAirowisuseradjustablebetween170-210l/minbyuseofthe+/-buttons.

IftheAristoAirelectroniccontrolsystemdetectsthattheairowstartsdroppingclosetominimumdesignedairow,theelectronicmotorcontrol

systemwillautomaticallyincreaseairowtocompensateforthecloggedlterandnextLEDontheairowindicatorwillilluminate(fromthismo-

menttheusercannotdecreaseairowbelowthislevel,butstillcanincreasetolevelsabove).

Thisprocesswillrepeatuntilthelastlevelofairowindicatorisilluminated.

If the Low ow or Low battery alarm indicates/sounds the user should immediately exit the work place/ contaminated area.

AristoAirpowerunitisequippedwithbatterylifeindicatorwhichwillindicatetheapproximate%chargeremaininginthebattery.

9. Aristo Air POWER UNIT PREPARATION FOR USE

EnsurethattheAristoAirunit,airsupplyhoseandheadgeararenotdamaged,andthatafullychargedbatteryissecurelylocatedinthepower

unit.

Ensureamainlteristtedandsecuredwiththefrontcover.

Connecting Hose:Checkhosebeforeuseforanytears,damageorbrokenpins.

EnsuretheO-ringonthebayonetoneachendofthehoseisintactandingoodcondition.

Thehosewillbeprotectedinusebythehosesleeve.

Headpiece:Toattachthehosetotheairchannel,pushthebayonetintotherearoftheairchannelandrotateclockwisethough45Degrees

(Refertoseparateinstructionsuppliedwithheadpiece).

Power unit:ToattachthehosetothepowerunitrotatetheoutletlockingringonthetopoftheAristoAirpowerunitanti-clockwisesothatitisin

theunlockedposition(seediagramI).

Pushthebayonetintotheoutletontheturbounit.DO NOTtwistthebayonet.

Rotatethelockingringclockwisetolockthebayonetinposition.

Turnonthepowerunitandputthebeltroundthewaistjoiningthebucklesatthefront.

If either the Low ow or low battery alarm indicates/sounds the user should immediately exit the work place/ contaminated area.

10. MAINTENANCE

Routinemaintenanceislimitedtocleaningoftheequipmentandreplacementofltersandhead/faceseal.

11. CLEANING AND STORAGE

• Avoidinhalinganydustduringcleaning

• Donotuseabrasivecleaningagentsororganicsolventstocleanthepowerunitorhose.

• Tocleanallcomponentswipewithdampclothdippedinwarmsoapywater.Drywithasoft,cleancloth.

• Donotattempttocleanthelters,oncefullyloadedtheymustbereplaced.

• Donotimmersethepowerunitinwaterorallowwatertoentertheunitviatheairoutletorinlet.

• Allequipmentshouldbestoredinacleandryatmosphere(R.H.<90%)withinthetemperaturerange-5°Cto+55°C.Itshouldbe

 protectedfromdirectsunlightandanymaterialknowntodamageplastics,e.g.petrolandsolventvapors.

• Equipmentshouldbetransportedintheoriginalpackaging.Ifstoredcorrectlythisequipmenthasashelflifeof5years.
