PAINTING SAFETY
Never flush the system under high pressure. Never spray solvent or other flushing material through the 1.
guns with the spray tips in place. An explosion or fire could result from static electricity build-up in the
presence of flammable vapors. Always remove the spray tips prior to flushing the system.
Never wipe off build-up around the spray tips until the pressure is fully relieved. When the need arises
2.
to work on the paint guns and/or the lines, always depressurize the entire system first. Always follow the
Pressure Relief Procedure for Paint System before checking, adjusting, or shutting down the unit.
Never use standard hardware to modify an airless or high pressure system. Use high pressure fittings only.
3.
Call the factory for the proper replacement parts and components. See the parts list in the back of this
manual.
The special high pressure hose supplied with airless or high pressure equipment is a standard component.
4.
This hose, like all high pressure hose, must never be kinked or bent in less than a four inch radius.

the air compressor, and the bead guns.
This striping machine is an airless unit, which utilizes the power of a gasoline engine to power the rotary
4.
hydraulic piston pump. The hydraulic pump powers the hydraulic motor or top section of the paint pump
assembly, which drives the lower paint section of the paint pump assembly. The paint is pumped from a 5
gallon pail or 12 gallon tank to the spray tips in the paint guns at a high pressure.
The gasoline engine also powers an air compressor that provides air to the air solenoids that turn the guns
5.
on and off.
Beads are dispensed to the bead guns by pressurizing the bead tank.
6.

paint preparation
Make sure the paint is thoroughly stirred. 1.
Check the paint manufacturers recommendations to see if the paint needs to be thinned when used in an 2.
airless spray system.
If you are using old or dirty or poor quality paint, strain the paint through a filter bag or screen that is
3.
between 50 and 70 mesh.
Fill the paint tank with the desired amount of paint.
4.
To prevent the paint from forming a skin on it, float a compatible solvent on top of the paint. 5.
The extra time spent in quality control when loading the paint will prevent many problems while you are striping.
pre-start up procedure
Engage the parking brake when the unit is parked.
Check fluid levels on the engine, the hydraulic oil reservoir, and the air compressor. There is a dipstick for
1.
measuring the engine oil level. There are sight level gauges for viewing the oil level in the hydraulic tank
and the air compressor. See the Service section of this manual for proper levels and for the correct
fluids to use.
Fill the cup on the HP paint pump with Throat Seal Liquid (TSL). The cup is located in the pump block on
2.
the lower section of the pump. (See Pg. 11)
Make sure the ground chain or strap is in contact with the ground. Strap is located on the left side of the
3.
machine below the engine.
Turn the Hydraulic Oil Supply Valve to the off position with the handle perpendicular to the valve body.
4.
Turn the System Pressure Adjusting Bolt on the hydraulic pump counterclockwise (out). This to reduce the 5.
load on the engine when starting the engine. The hex nut on this screw will need to be loosened in order
to turn the adjusting screw.
The Bleeder Line Valve, located by the high pressure paint filter, may also be opened (turned out).
6.
page-14

page-14
start up procedure
Turn the gas on at the engine with slide lever located on the left side of the engine. Pull the throttle half 1.
way out. Pull the choke all the way out.
Flip the “Power switch to On
2.
Turn the ignition key to the right to start the engine. If the engine does not start in 15 seconds, wait one 3.
minute and retry. Adjust the choke if needed. If the engine still does not start check if the Pre-Start Up
Procedures have been done and check if there is gas in the tank.
Push the choke in when the engine starts. Adjust the throttle to an idle speed.
4.
Pull the throttle all the way out so the engine runs at full speed. The throttle can be locked in place by 5.
turning the T handle.
Turn the HP Pump Pressure Control Knob (See Pg. 8) all the way out (counterclockwise) to assure the
6.
pressure to the HP pump doesn’t get too high.
Turn up the system hydraulic pressure to 1200 PSI by turning the System Pressure Adjusting Bolt (See
7.
Pg. 8) on the hydraulic pump clockwise (in) until the gauge reads 1200 PSI. Tighten the hex nut on the
adjusting screw to keep it from rotating due to vibration.
To move the machine forward, set the Forward/Reverse switch to “Forward”. Pull up on the Drive
8.
Engagement Lever that is underneath the left handle grip. Adjust the Striping Speed Control Knob (See Pg.
9) on the left side of the machine until you are traveling at a slow walking speed. Release the lever and the
machine will coast to a stop.
To reverse the machine, move the Forward/Reverse switch on the control panel to “Reverse while the
9.
machine is standing still. Pull up on the Drive Engagement Lever under the left handle grip and the
machine will back up. Do not flip the Forward/Reverse switch while the machine is being powered forward
or backward.
To move the machine faster between painting operations, push the Drive Engagement Lever underneath
10.
the left grip handle down. The machine should move forward at a higher speed. Adjust the Override Speed
Control Knob on the left of the control panel until you move at a speed that will be good for in-between
striping operation. Release the lever and hold back on the machine and the machine will come to a stop.

page-15
painting procedure
Before actually painting adjust the guns to the desired distance from the machine and the desired spacing between
the guns. Raise or lower the guns to a reasonable height. Make sure fasteners are tightened.
Turn up the HP pump pressure by turning the HP Pump Pressure Control Knob at the Hydraulic Pump
1.
clockwise (in). Start with low pressure (200-300 PSI).
Open the Hydraulic Oil Supply Valve (See Pg. 10). The handle should be in-line with the valve body. This
2.
valve must be fully opened for the hydraulics to function properly. The HP paint pump will start cycling.
Allow the paint to circulate through the pump and back into the paint container.
After a few minutes, close the Bleeder Line Valve.
3.
The bleeder line valve should only be open under low pressure.
Open the paint supply valve to the outside gun.
4.
Turn up the HP pump pressure by turning the HP Pump Pressure Control Knob clockwise (in). Start with 5.
400 – 550 PSI on the HP pump pressure gauge.
The HP pump assembly is a 1.9:1 ratio pump. For every pound of hydraulic pressure that enters the
hydraulic motor side of the pump, paint is expelled out of the paint side of the pump at 1.9 pounds of
pressure. Example: If the gauge reads 650 PSI, the pressure in the high pressure paint lines is 1235 PSI.
Make sure that the arrow on the tip is pointing down. The wings of the tip guard must be to the front and
6.
rear of the machine. (See picture on Pg. 16)
Test the outside gun by pressing the red button on the end of the respective solenoid valve. (See Pg. 12)
7.
Repeat steps # 5 & 6 for the inside gun and the middle gun if this is a 3-gun unit. 8.
To operate the guns from the operating position: 9.
2-GUN UNIT - Press the button on the right gun control box (See Pg. 7) all the way in. Paint should begin to
spray out of the gun.
3- GUN UNIT – Move the gun #3 control switch to the “R”, right, position. Press the button on the right gun
control box (See Pg. 7) all the way in. Paint should begin to spray out of the gun.
On the 3-gun units the 3 switches on the lower center of the control are to be used to control if the gun will be
turned off (center position) or if the gun will be controlled by the right button on the right handle bar or the left
button on the left handle bar. This way, gun #1, 2, or 3, or a combination of those, can be controlled by the right
button or by the left button or turned off so they don’t spray at all.
page-16
ez-liner pro series 1300 paint striper - operating manual
page-16
Start the machine moving forward by pulling up on the Drive Engagement Lever under the left handle 10.
grip. After the machine is moving, press the button on the right gun control box all the way in. Paint
should begin to spray out of the gun(s).
When striping with the unit, keep moving. Start moving the unit before activating the guns. Drive through the
end of the line if possible after you have stopped spraying. This will prevent paint build up at the beginning and
the end of the line.
Always paint with the lowest possible fluid pressure that the application will allow. Increase the pressure
11.
until you get rid of the “hour glassing - the narrowing of the line when the HP pump cycles. When the line
is sharp and clearly defined, the pressure is right. Painting at too high of a pressure results in overspray and
splattering.
General operating range for painting is between 630-870 PSI on the gauge, which is actually 1200 - 1650 PSI in
the paint system. This can vary depending on the viscosity of the paint, the number of spray guns being used,
and even the weather conditions. Less pressure will be needed when it is hot and more in cold conditions.
When using this machine as a walk-behind unit and want to keep a straight line, engage the castor lock
12.
with the Castor Lock Switch on lower left of the control panel. The machine still can be adjusted to the
left or the right by putting side pressure on the handle bars. The castor lock should not be used when a
sulky (sit-down) or chariot (stand-up) cart are being used for the operator.
Make adjustments to the paint gun height to get the desired paint width. Change to different tips if
13.
needed. See Spray Tip Selection Guide below.
Adjust the guns side-to-side to get the desired line spacing.
14.
page-17
ez-liner pro series 1300 paint striper - operating manual
page-17
spray tip selection guide
The spray tips needed for the PRO SERIES 1300 are dependant on the application, the paint viscosity and
the paint temperature. The following is a guide for selecting the right spray tip.
The tip number is a 6 digit number with sets of 3 numbers separated by a dash. The first number in the
second set of 3 indicates pattern width and the second and third numbers are orifice opening.
To determine what line width a tip will spray, double the first number and add 2. This will be the width of
line with the tip at 12 inches from the surface.
Hypothetical example: 286-319 Spray Tip
The 319 tip will spray an 8” line at 12” from the surface or a 4” line at 6” from the surface.
The 19 is .019 or 19 one thousandths of an inch.
Generally, use one gun to paint 2” to 12” wide lines and two guns to paint 12” to 24” lines.
In order to decrease line width, use a tip with a narrower pattern. To increase line width, use a tip with a
wider pattern, or use two guns.
Line width will vary with paint viscosity and paint temperature.
Check the mil thickness of the wet paint with a mil thickness gauge. Adjust the speed of the machine until
15.
you get the desired mil thickness.
bead application
To apply beads increase the pressure in the bead tank by turning the Bead Tank Regulator knob at the 1.
top of the bead tank clockwise. The pressure in the bead tank will be indicated by the gauge at the top
of the tank.
Set the pressure at 20 PSI. Increasing the pressure increases the flow of beads to the bead gun.
2.
Bead flow is also controlled by the size of the orifice of the bead gun insert. See the Binks Model 30 Bead 3.
Gun information in the Service section of this manual for a list of nozzle inserts that are available. Flow will
also vary with the type of bead used.
On a 2-gun unit the bead guns are turned off and on with the button at the handle bars that controls the
4.
paint guns.
The button has two stages. When the button is fully depressed both the paint and the bead guns are activated. If
the button is partially depressed only the bead gun will be activated. While painting, the button can be partially
released to stop painting and the beads will continue to flow to finish out the line that was paint.
page-18
ez-liner pro series 1300 paint striper - operating manual
page-18
On a 3-gun unit the switch for “Beads on the control panel must be in the “On position for the bead guns 5.
to activate with the paint guns.
The bead flow can be adjusted to zero flow by adjusting the pressure in the bead tank to zero. On the
6.
3-gun unit this can also be done by turning the switch for “Beads to the “Off position.
To test the bead application, individually operate each gun and observe the bead pattern and coverage.
7.
Increase the height of the bead gun for a wider pattern; decrease the height for a narrower pattern.
Increase or decrease the pressure in the bead tank as needed.
8. When beads need to be added to the bead tank:
a. Turn the engine off by flipping the “Key switch to the left.
b. Relieve the pressure in the bead tank by opening the Pressure Relief Valve (See Pg.10) that is
located on the top of the bead tank.
c. Release the clamps at the top of the bead tank and remove the lid.
d. Make sure the clamps are tightly secured after filling the tank and before starting the engine and
re-pressurizing the tank.
