Bissell 16N5 is an upright vacuum cleaner with a range of features to help you keep your home clean. It has a rotating brush that can be turned on or off, depending on the surface you're cleaning. The vacuum also comes with a variety of tools, including a TurboBrush for small areas and a crevice tool for tight spaces. Using the tools

1 Make sure the cleaner is in the upright

position.

2. Removethe hosewand fromthe wand

base.This automaticallydivertsthe

suctionto the hose.Unwrapthe hosefrom

the cleaner.

3. Usethe hoseandwand aloneor attach

anyof thetools to the endof the hose

wand.

Emptyingthe dirt container

Emptythedirtcontainerassoonasthedirt

reachesthe"Full" lineonthesideofthecontainer.

1. Pressthe releasebutton ontop ofthe

carryinghandleto removethedirt container.

Choosean emptyingmethod.Method#2 is

recommendedfor allergysufferers.

Method#1 - holdthe dirt containerover

trashcan andpushthe emptyingbuttonto

openthe bottom(2a).Closethe bottomafter

the dirt empties.

Method#2 - placea plasticbagovermebottom

ofthedirtcontainer.Pushthe emptyingbutton

throughtheplas'dctoopenthe bottom(2b).After

thedustsettles,closethe bottomandremove

thebagtodiscard.

3. Replacedirt containeroncleanerbyaligning

the bottom and pushingback untilit snaps

into place.

1. Ensurethe dirtcontainerhasbeenemptied.

Removethe lower portionby pressingthe

front latchon theupperportionasshown.

Cleanthe screenwith a cloth or soft brush

to removedustor debris.

Ifdesired,the lower dirtcontainermaybe

washedin warm water.Makesureit is

completelydry beforereassembling.Donot

put in dishwasher.

Toreassemble,holdthe carryhandleand

placethe upperportionintothe lower

portion,lining upthe front andbacklatches.

Pushdownuntil bothlatchesclick intoplace.

Makesurethe dirt containeris securely

assembledbeforereplacingit on machine.

Cleaningthepre-motorfilter

Thepre-motorfilter shouldbe checkedmonthly

andwashedasneededto maintainperformance.

Moreor lessfrequent cleaningmaybe required

basedonindividualvacuuminghabitsandtypes

Replacingthe HEPAfiltercartridge

The HEPAfiltercartridgeshouldbe

replacedif machineperformance is

noticeablydeclining. Moreor less

frequent replacingmaybe requiredbased

on individualvacuuminghabitsandtypes

of debrispicked up.

Note:Tohavethe benefitsofthe

Airetight®HEPASystem_youmust

usethe BISSELLHEPAfilter cartridge.

1. Removethe dirt container.

Toremovethe HEPAfilter cartridge,

pushin onthefront ofthefilter doorto

unlatch. Lift upto access.

Tocheckor remove,unscrewthecenter

screw.

If necessary,replacethe usedHEPA

filter cartridgewith a newone.

Note:Toavoiddamagingthe HEPA

filter cartridgeandreducingits

filtration capabilities,becarefulnot

to touchthefilter material.TheHEPA

filter cartridgeisnotwashable.

Ifsuctionisnormalatthe hose,followthesesteps

tocheckfor andcleartheclogfor floorcleaning:

1. Checkdiverterareaatbackof machinefor

diverterposi'donandclogs.Whenthehose

wandisinsertedin the base,mediverter

shouldbetotheleft.Ifaclogisvisiblenearthe

diverter,theplasticcovermayberemovedto

cleartheclogbyremovingthe3screws.

Checkthefoot hosefor clogs(1).Ifyouare

not abletotell from theoutsideif a clog is

present,removethe bottom3screwsfrom

the divertercoverto loosenandstraighten

the foot hose(2).

Removeanyclogsfoundand fully

reassemblethe cleanerbeforeattemptingto

checksuctionagainor usingthe cleaner.

Thermal motorprotection

Aninternalthermalprotectorhasbeendesigned

intoyourcleanertoprotectitfromoverheating.

Whenthethermalprotectoractivates,themain

vacuummotorwillstopoperating.Ifthishappens,

proceedasfollows.

1. Turnthe cleanerOFFand unplugfrom

electricaloutlet.

Checkthe cleanerforthe sourceof

overheatingproblem(i.e.full dirt cup,dirty

filters or clog).

Fixthe problemby followingthe steps inthe

maintenancesectionof the userguide.

Whenthe motorcoolsfor approximately

30 minutes,the thermal protector

automaticallyresetsandcleaningmay

continue.Ifthe cleanerwill not turn onor the

thermal protectorcontinuesto activate,your

cleanermayneedservicing.CallBISSELL

andremove2 screwsto lift off lens.

Removethe bulbbygraspingbulbandpull-

ingstraightout of the socket.Installthe new

bulbbypushinggentlyintothe socketuntil

the bulb snapsinto place.

clogsordebriswrappingaroundthebrush.

1. Removetool from hoseor front of vacuum.

Twistcollarso openingisat the top and lift
