Introduction
The purpose of this addendum is to outline the functionality of a new Quick Blanking feature on the
MS4800S. This version will be referred to as the MS4800S-SB1, it offers customers a quick and easy
method of remotely programming fixed blanking. This feature allows for quick set-up in metal
stamping bending applications.
Difference between MS4800S and MS4800S-SB1
Individual Beam Indicators (IBIs) behavior within the fixed blanked areas has been modified. The
blanked area will now illuminate when the fixed blanked object is in place.
Program Dip Switch in the receiver does not function on the MS4800S-SB1.
Programming
Warning!
Use of Fixed Blanking and Floating Blanking will make the MS4800 system less
sensitive to objects in the detection zone. Improper use of these features can result in severe injury to
personnel. Fixed Blanking and Floating Blanking may require a hard barrier guard. Fixed
Blanking and Floating Blanking may require an increase in the safety distance.
Fixed Blanking Programming Steps:
Activate Fixed Blanking
Step Description LED Indicator Behavior
1 Enable Fixed Blanking via dip switches. Yellow indicator flashing.
2 Power cycle (or insert key and turn key-switch #2 to the
START/RESET position and then release the key-switch (on-off)
Amber LED on.
Program Fixed Blanking
Step Description LED Indicator Behavior
1 Insert the object in the detection zone. Red LED on and corresponding IBIs are on.
2 Insert key into key-switch #1 and turn the key to the PROGRAM
- ENABLE (on) position, and hold through Step 5.
Red LED on and corresponding IBIs are on.
3 Turn key-switch #2 to the PROGRAM position and then release
the key-switch (on-off) to enter the programming mode.
Red and Amber LED’s flashing at a 3Hz rate,
corresponding IBIs are flashing at a 3Hz rate.
4 User has 10 minute to position the object, if necessary, and
complete the next step.
No change.
5 Turn key-switch #2 to the PROGRAM position and then release
the key-switch (on-off) to complete the programming process
and enter the interlock mode.
Yellow LED on; Red and Amber LEDs continue flashing at
a 3Hz rate, corresponding IBIs remain on.
6 Set key-switch #1 to the PROGRAM - DISABLE (off) position
and then remove key.
Yellow LED on; Red and Amber LEDs continue flashing at
a 3Hz rate, corresponding IBIs remain on.
7 Power cycle (or turn key-switch #2 to the START/RESET
position and then release the key-switch (on-off).
Amber LED on, green LED on, corresponding IBIs remain
on.

EDM (External Device Monitoring) must be
used when force-guided control relays are
used as the Final Switching Devices.
Connect the red wire though NC contacts to
For the purpose of bench testing prior to installation,
the user may select EDM OFF(default factory setting).
In this case the EDM line, terminal 5 (red wire) must
be connected to the 0 VDC line.
Aux. Output PNP 100 mA. max. @ 24VDC,
connect to PLC (default)
Start connections are shown with NO switch
(pulled to 0 VDC). Use a remote key-switch (on-
off-on-off) to enable programming.
The EDM coils must be suppressed with the
components provided in the documentation Kit.
MTS requires a NC contact. If MTS is not used,
verify that the function is disabled.

Alternate Switch Configurations
Program & Start/Reset Switch Requirements
1. Start and Programming functions must be implemented using separate switches.
2. Implementation of the Start & Programming Switches must ensure that short between +24VDC and
0VDC are avoided.
3. Program Input requires a Normally Open Key-switch connected to +24VDC.
4. Start Input requires a Normally Open Key-switch or Push-button switch connected to ground, 0VDC.
