Ultrasonic Parking Alert System
Your RadioShack Ultrasonic Parking Alert
System eliminates the guesswork from park-
ing. You can set the system to alert you
when your vehicle is parked the desired dis-
tance from the base.
Memory — lets you set the desired parking
distance.
Power/Low Battery Indicator — indicates
that the power is on, or that the battery pow-
er is low.
Supplied AC Adapter — lets you power the
system from a standard AC outlet.
Power ON/OFF Switch — allows you to
manually turn the system on or off at any
time.
Sound HI/LO/OFF — lets you select an alert
volume that best suits your needs.
INSTALLING THE BASE’S
BATTERIES
The base needs four AA batteries (not sup-
plied) for back-up power in case AC power
fails. For the best performance and longest
life, we recommend RadioShack alkaline
batteries.
Cautions:
Use only fresh batteries of the required
size and recommended type.
Do not mix old and new batteries or dif-
ferent types of batteries (standard, alka-
line, or rechargeable).
1. Lift up the
battery com-
partment
cover on the
back of the
base and
remove it.
2. Place the batteries in the compartment
as indicated by the polarity symbols (+
and –) marked inside.
3. Replace the cover.
The Power/Low Battery Indicator flashes
about once every 5 seconds when the AC
power cord is plugged in, or if the power cord
is unplugged and the batteries have enough
power. The Power/Low Battery Indicator
flashes more rapidly if the power cord is un-
plugged and the batteries are low. When this
happens, replace the batteries.
Warning: Dispose of old batteries promptly
and properly. Do not burn or bury them.
Caution: If you do not plan to use the sys-
tem for two weeks or longer, remove the bat-
teries. Batteries can leak chemicals that can
destroy electronic parts.
MOUNTING THE BASE
Mount the base at a height where the driver
can easily see it from the vehicle. For the
best performance, we recommend that you
mount the base about 3 to 6 feet from the
floor of the garage.
1. Drill two vertical holes into the mounting
surface 35/16 inches apart.

2
2. Thread the two supplied gold screws into
the holes until the heads extend about 1/8
inch from the wall.
3. Align the base’s keyhole slots with the
screw heads and slide the base down to
secure it.
MOUNTING THE SENSOR
Mount the sensor below the base and about
12 to 24 inches above the ground so it directly
faces the vehicle’s front bumper or the license
plate.
1. Drill two horizontal holes into the mount-
ing surface 23/4 inches apart.
2. Thread the two supplied silver screws
into the holes until the heads extend
about
1/4 inch from the wall.
3. Align the sensor’s keyhole slots with the
screw heads and slide the sensor in
place to secure it.
Note: If the vehicle’s front bumper, or the li-
cense plate, appear angled (in relation to the
sensor), mount the supplied foam on the back
of the sensor to compensate.
CONNECTING THE BASE
AND THE SENSOR
Insert the plug on one end of the supplied
telephone-type line cord into the base’s jack,
then plug the other end into the sensor’s jack.
CONNECTING THE AC
ADAPTER
Power the system from a standard AC outlet
using the supplied 12V 200 mA AC adapter.
Cautions:
You must use a Class 2 power
source that supplies 12V DC
and delivers at least 200 mA.
Its center tip must be set to positive and
its plug must fit the system's DC 12V jack.
The supplied adapter meets these speci-
fications. Using an adapter that does not
meet these specifications could damage
the system or the adapter.
Always connect the AC adapter to the
system before you connect it to AC
power. When you finish, disconnect the
adapter from AC power before you dis-
connect it from the system.
1. Slide ON/OFF on the base to OFF.
2. Insert the AC adapter’s barrel plug into
the base’s DC 12V jack.
3. Plug the other end of the adapter into a
standard AC outlet.
OPERATION
1. Slide ON/OFF on the base to ON. The
power indicator on the sensor lights for a
few seconds.
2. Side HI/LO/OFF on the base to the desired
sound level (HI or LO) or slide it to OFF to
turn off the sound.

3. When your vehicle comes within about 10
feet of the sensor, the base’s green indi-
cator flashes and the buzzer sounds (if
the sound is on). The flashing rate and
buzzer cycle speed up the closer your
vehicle gets to the base.
Warnings:
Do not rely solely on your system the
first few times you park your vehicle.
Have another person help you to make
sure all settings are accurate and that
the system works properly.
We recommend that you also check
your system’s accuracy about every 6
months.
If you set up the system by pulling your
vehicle in front end first, do not park
your vehicle in your garage back-
wards.
4. When your vehicle enters the preset
parking distance (from the base), the
base’s red indicator lights and the buzzer
stops. Stop your vehicle and put it in park.
The red indicator automatically turns off
after about 15 seconds.
CHANGING THE PARKING
POSITION
Your system’s preset parking distance is
about 11/4–11/2 feet away from the sensor. Fol-
low these steps to increase the parking dis-
tance. (You cannot set the system to park
closer than its preset distance.)
1. Park your vehicle at the desired distance
from the sensor. The base’s green indica-
tor flashes.
2. Use a pointed object (such as a paper
clip) to press MEMORY on the sensor. The
base’s red indicator lights when the sen-
sor has stored the new parking distance.
Notes:
If the base’s green indicator stops flash-
ing before you press MEMORY, slide ON/
OFF on the base to OFF, then to ON. Wait
a few seconds, then press MEMORY to
store the desired parking distance. The
base’s red indicator lights when the sen-
sor has stored the parking distance.
If the base’s red indicator does not turn
off, the sensor might not be directly facing
the vehicle’s front bumper or license
plate. Make sure that the front of the vehi-
cle is on a parallel plane with the sensor.
If the system loses power, it automatically
returns to the default parking position
(about 11/4–11/2 feet away from the sen-
sor). Reset the alert position as neces-
sary.
CARE
Keep the system dry; if it gets wet, wipe it dry
immediately. Use and store the system only in
normal temperature environments. Handle the
system carefully; do not drop it. Keep the sys-
tem away from dust and dirt, and wipe it with a
damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking
new.
Modifying or tampering with the system’s in-
ternal components can cause a malfunction
and might invalidate its warranty If your sys-
tem is not performing as it should, take it to
your local RadioShack store for assistance.
