GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
FOR POWER TOOLS

. KNOW YOUR TOOL

ead and understand the owners manual and labels affixed to
t
he tool. Learn its application and limitations as well as its
specific potential hazards.
2. GROUND THE TOOL.
This tool is equipped with an approved 3-conductor cord and
a 3-prong grounding type plug to fit the proper grounding type
receptacle. The green conductor in the cord is the grounding
wire.
NEVER connect the green wire to a live terminal.
3. KEEP GUARDS IN PLACE.
Keep in good working order, properly adjusted and aligned.
4. REMOVE ADJUSTING KEYS AND WRENCHES.
Form habit of checking to see that keys and adjusting
wrenches are removed from tool before turning it on.
5. KEEP WORK AREA CLEAN.
Cluttered areas and benches invite accidents. Make sure the
floor is clean and not slippery due to wax and sawdust build-up.
6. AVOID DANGEROUS ENVIRONMENT.
Don’t use power tools in damp or wet locations or expose
them to rain. Keep work area well lit and provide adequate
surrounding work space.
7. KEEP CHILDREN AWAY.
All visitors should be kept a safe distance from work area.
8. MAKE WORKSHOP CHILD-PROOF.
-with padlocks, master switches or by removing starter keys.
9. USE PROPER SPEED.
A tool will do a better and safer job when operated at the
proper speed.
10. USE RIGHT TOOL.
Don’t force the tool or the attachment to do a job for which it
was not designed.
11. WEAR PROPER APPAREL.
Do not wear loose clothing, gloves, neckties or jewelry (rings,
watch) because they could get caught in moving parts. Non-
slip footwear is recommended. Wear protective hair covering
to contain long hair. Roll up long sleeves above the elbows.

yeglasses only have impact resistant lenses, thet are

safety glasses. Also use a face or dust mask if cutting
operation is dusty.
13. DON’T OVERREACH.

eep proper footing and balance at all times.
14. MAINTAIN TOOL WITH CARE.
Keep tools sharp and clean for best and safest performance.
Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories.
15. DISCONNECT TOOLS.
Before servicing, when changing accessories or attachments.

AVOID ACCIDENTAL STARTING.
Make sure the swich is in the ‘’OFF’’ position before plugging
in.
17. USE RECOMMENDED ACCESSORIES.
Consult the manual for recommended accessories. Follow the
instructions that accompany the accessories. The use of
improper accessories may cause hazards.
18. NEVER STAND ON TOOL.
Serious injury could occur if the tool tips over. Do not store
materials such that it is necessary to stand on the tool to reach
them.
19. CHECK DAMAGED PARTS.
Before further use of the tool, a guard or other parts that are
damaged should be carefully checked to ensure that they will
operate properly and perform their intended function. Check for
alignment of moving parts, breakage of parts, mounting, and
any other conditions that may affect its operation. A guard or
other parts that are damaged should be properly repaired or
replaced.
20. NEVER LEAVE MACHINE RUNNING UNATTENDED.

cause fire, injury or damage to the workpiece.
2. DO NOT SAND LEAD-BASED PAINT. Contaminated dust
could cause lead poisoning. Because it is difficult to identify
lead-based paint, we recommend that you wear a dust mask
suitable for lead paint dust environments. Regular painting
masks are not suitable. Using a dust collection system is
recommended at all times.
3. HOLD WORKPIECE FIRMLY. Hold workpiece firmly with
both hands at all times.

POWER SUPPLY
WARNING:
THIS SANDER MUST BE CONNECTED TO A 120V, 15-
AMP. BRANCH CIRCUIT OR CIRCUIT BREAKER. FAILURE TO
CONNECT IN THIS WAY CAN RESULT IN INJURY FROM SHOCK
OR FIRE.
GROUNDING
WARNING:
IF NOT PROPERLY GROUNDED, THIS SANDER CAN
CAUSE ELECTRICAL SHOCK, PARTICULARLY WHEN USED IN
DAMP LOCATIONS. TO AVOID SHOCK OR FIRE, IF THE POWER
CORD IS WORN OR DAMAGED IN ANY WAY, HAVE IT REPLACED
IMMEDIATELY.
Your sander must be properly grounded. Not all outlets are properly
grounded. If you are not sure if your outlet is properly grounded, have
it checked by a qualified electrician. If this sander should malfunction
or breakdown, grounding provides a path of least resistance for
electric current, to reduce the risk of electric shock. This sander is
equipped with a cord having an equipment-grounding conductor and
grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an appropriate outlet
which is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local
codes and ordinances.

SANDER, DO NOT REMOVE OR ALTER THE GROUNDING PRONG
IN ANY MANNER.
120V OPERA
TION
As received from the factory, your sander is ready to run for 120V
operation. This sander is intended for use on a circuit which has an
outlet and a plug which looks like the one illustrated in Fig.2.
WARNING: DO NOT USE A TWO-PRONG ADAPTOR FOR THEY
ARE NOT IN ACCORDANCE WITH LOCAL CODES AND
ORDINANCES. NEVER USE IN CANADA.
EXTENSION CORDS
The use of any extension cord will cause some loss of power. Use the
following table to determine the minimum wire size (A.W.G-American
W
ire Gauge) extension cord. Use only 3-wire extension cords which
have 3-prong grounding type plugs and 3-hole receptacles which
accept the tool’
s plug.
For circuits that are further away from the electrical circuit box, the wire
size must be increased proportionately in order to deliver ample voltage
to the sander motor. Refer to Fig. 3 for wire length and size.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
Assembling Rubber Feet to Base
T
o ensure good stability of the sander on a flat surface and to minimize
vibrations, assemble the 4 rubber feet (A) Fig.4 to the underside of each
m
ounting hole (B) by simply pushing them into place.
Mounting Sander to a workbench
It is recommended to mount your sander to a permanent location such as a
workbench or table.
1) Place sander in permanent position and use the 1/4” mounting holes (B)
Fig.4 to mark the position of the holes to drill into the workbench.
2) Use 4 long hex. bolts, 8 washers and 4 hex. nuts (not included) to fasten
the sander to the workbench. Make sure the hex. bolts you purchase are
long enough to go through the sander base, rubber foot, workbench and
still have room to fasten it with the washer and hex. nut.
If you prefer, mount your sander to a portable board which can be set-up
easily to any other workbench. For your own safety, use clamps to secure the
portable board to the workbench.
Replacing/Installing Sanding Sleeves
1) Place hex. end of first wrench over hex. nut (A) Fig.5. Place opposite end
of second wrench over the flats of the spindle shaft (B) to prevent the
spindle shaft from turning. Loosen hex. nut (A).
2) Remove hex. nut (A) Fig.6, upper spindle washer (C), sanding sleeve (D),
sanding drum (E) and table insert (F). Note: The 1/2” sanding sleeve does
not require a sanding drum to be installed on the spindle shaft, therefore if
you replace it, there is no sanding drum to remove.
3) Remove lower spindle washer (G) and clean table insert area.
4) If you wish to install a 2” sanding sleeve, reinstall clean lower spindle
washer (G). Select the corresponding table insert (2” sleeve =2-5/16” I.D.
table insert) with the smallest clearance between the sanding sleeve to
install. See chart in Fig.7 as reference.
5) Slide 2” sanding drum onto spindle shaft and then slide 2” sanding sleeve
over the sanding drum.
Note: If it is difficult to install the sanding sleeve on the drum, apply talcum
powder or baby powder to the drum or the inside of the sanding sleeve before
installing it.
6) Select the appropriate upper spindle washer (C). Note: Use the 5/8” upper
spindle washer with the 1/2” sanding sleeve. Use the 7/8” upper spindle
washer with the 3/4”, 1” and 1-1/2” sanding drums. Use the 1-13/16” upper
spindle washer with the 2” and 3” sanding drums.
7) Install and tighten hex. nut (A) using both wrenches. Do not overtighten.

SELECTING THE APPROPRIATE SLEEVE, TABLE INSERT AND UPPER
SPINDLE WASHER
It is very important to always make sure to use the appropriate table insert
and upper spindle washer with the corresponding sanding sleeve and drum.
The chart in Fig.7 shows the proper parts to use together depending on the
sanding sleeve size.
Warning! Failure to use the correct table insert with matching sanding sleeve
could result in workpiece being pulled down between the table insert and the
sanding sleeve.
SANDING/FEED DIRECTION
Warning! Before sanding a piece of wood, make sure the sanding sleeve and
drum are properly installed. Do not force workpiece against sanding sleeve.
Turn sander on and let the motor reach its maximum speed. The spindle
rotates in a counterclockwise direction as shown by the arrows on the table
in Fig.8. Firmly hold the workpiece with both hands and feed it gradually
against the sanding sleeve from a right to left direction. If you feed it in the
opposite direction, the workpiece could be thrown away from the sanding
sleeve.
SWITCH WITH SAFETY KEY
Your sander comes with a toggle switch (A) Fig.9 which has a removable
safety key (B) to prevent unauthorized use.
To turn the sander on, push safety key all the way into the switch and push
the switch upwards.
To turn sander off, push the switch downwards. When the sander is not in
use, it is recommended to pull the safety key out and to store it in a safe place
out of the reach of children.
DUST COLLECTION OUTLET
Your sander comes with a 2-1/4” dust collection outlet (A) Fig.10 which is
mounted underneath the right end of the table top. Connect a dust collector
system or a vacuum cleaner hose to the outlet to limit airborn dust.
MAINTENANCE
Make sure to inspect the sander before each use for damage or worn power
cord. Do not use the sander until all damaged parts are repaired and power
cord has been replaced. Blow out all accumulation of dust inside and outside
of the sander, this should be done on a regular basis.
All ball bearings are lubricated for life and will not require further lubrication.
OPTIONAL REPLACEMENT SANDING SLEEVES AVAILABLE
The optional accessory sanding sleeve kits listed in Fig.11 are available at
your local King Canada distributor.
