low pressure two-stage propane/lp gas
Hose/regulator kit model lpa6001
FOR USE WITH PROPANE/LP FUELED INDOOR HEATING APPLIANCES**
Outlet: 3/8"- 45º Male Flare
Capacity: 160,000 Btu/Hour
WARNING: This low pressure regulator is designed
to regulate propane vapor only. This regulator meets all
the standards and safety codes for use on a horizontal
ASME tank or single vertical cylinder. The brass con-
necting tting is an approved excess ow P.O.L. with
left-hand threads. The vent must be pointing down
towards the ground when the regulator is properly
mounted (see Figure 1).
CAUTION: Do not install this Hose/Regulator Kit on
propane systems which allow liquid and debris to enter
the vapor system.
CAUTION: Use only hose provided with this kit with
this regulator. Check hose before each use. If highly
worn or cut, replace with hose specied by manufac-
turer before using kit.
This Hose/Regulator Kit must be installed in compliance with fed-
eral, state, local codes and laws, and in accordance with NFPA/ANS
58, Storage and Handling of Liqueed Petroleum Gases.
Read and follow manufacturers’ instructions when installing this
Hose/Regulator Kit to a propane gas cylinder.
WARNING: Do not use or store propane gas cylinders
in a building, garage, or enclosed area.
The two stages of the model LPA6001 Hose/Regulator Kit reduce
full cylinder pressure down to 11" water column outlet pressure
nominally at room temperature.
The gas appliance(s) served by this Hose/Regulator Kit must be
supplied with at least the minimum inlet pressure as specied by
the manufacturer of the appliance(s). A qualied propane service
person should verify proper supply pressure at all appliances.
CAUTION: Only qualied persons should install,
adjust, or service this propane gas regulator. If service
is needed, contact a qualied propane service techni-
cian or dealer.
WARNING: Know the odor of propane gas. If you
hear, see, or smell leaking propane gas, close all open
valves, and immediately get everyone away from the
gas cylinder and call the Fire Department. Do not at-
tempt repairs.
WARNING: Do not check for gas leaks with a match
or open ame. Apply soapy water at areas marked "X" in
Figure 1. Open cylinder valve. If bubble appears, close
valve and have propane gas service person make needed
repairs. Also, check all appliance valves and connections
to make sure they do not leak before lighting appliance.
The transportation, installation, and storage of propane cylinders
must be in compliance with federal, state, and local codes, and in
accordance with NFPA/ANS 58, Storage and Handling of Liqueed
Petroleum Gases.
The design, materials, components, installation, repairs, and main-
tenance of the gas piping system connected to this regulator must
be in compliance with federal, state, and local codes and should
comply with National Fuel Gas Code ANS Z223.1, NFPA 54.
Protect this regulator from the elements by using the vented
protective cover included in this kit.
HOW TO KEEP YOUR REGULATOR OPERATING
EFFICIENTLY AND SAFELY
Your regulator is equipped with a vent because it is constantly “breath-
ing.” That is, the diaphragm of the regulator moves down and draws
air into the bonnet or adjustment spring housing. When the diaphragm
moves up, air is expelled through the vent. In the event that excess
pressure builds up in the lower housing or body of the regulator, a
relief mechanism vents it to the atmosphere. So, it is imperative to
check the vent frequently to be sure it is clean and free of water,
corrosion, or obstructions as clogging is the most common cause of
regulator malfunction. Great care has been taken in the manufacture
of your regulator and it has been thoroughly tested and U.L. listed.
However, even a small piece of dirt, corrosion, pipe dope or other
foreign matter which nds its way into the outlet can result in higher
than normal pressure (high lockup) and/or loss of fuel.
If the vent does become clogged it can easily be cleaned with a
toothbrush. In addition, your regulator should be checked periodically
by a competent propane serviceman to be sure it is properly adjusted
and in safe working condition. By following these simple precautions
your regulator will give you years of trouble-free service.
You may have further questions about installation, operation, or troubleshoot-
ing. If so, contact DESA Heating, LLC at 1-866-672-6040. When calling please
