ELECTRONIC SCALE INSTRUCTIONS
eX-315w Wireless, Shipping Scale
INTRODUCTION
Congratulations on the purchase of your new Royal model eX-315w Electronic, Shipping Scale with
Wireless Remote Display. We recommend that you read this instruction manual carefully to become
familiar with the operation of the product. The manual explains, in simple steps, how to operate and
maintain your new scale. Please retain this guide for further reference.
If you have questions regarding the scale, please call Royal Customer Support at:
USA 1-800-272-6229
in Canada 1-888-266-9380
in Mexico 01-800-849-4826
or visit Royal’s web site at

The eX-315w Scale is designed for weighing boxes, packages and other heavy items. The scale is
ideal around the house. It is perfect for the traveler to weigh luggage before flights to ensure
compliance with airline maximum weight policies and avoid penalties and delays at the airport for
overweight baggage. No hassles or problems weighing large suitcases.
Please note that the weights provided are for
reference and informational purposes only. It is not
intended that the weight be used or relied upon for any commercial use. This scale is “Not Legal For
Trade.”
WARNING: To prevent damage to the scale:
DO NOT exceed the total weight capacity of the scale.
DO NOT drop the scale base platform or the remote display. Both units contain sensitive electronic
components. The scale may lose accuracy if it is dropped, banged, or handled in a manner other than its
intended use and as described in this manual.
There are NO end-user serviceable parts in this scale; and the scale should not be opened. Attempting to
service the scale will void the warranty and may permanently damage the scale.
WIRELESS REMOTE DISPLAY
The wireless, remote display allows you to conveniently weigh large boxes or items without interfering
with the display readout. You can place the remote display on a table top or any flat surface, using the
tilt-out stand on the back of the display. You can also hang the display on a wall using the enclosed
pieces of Velcro tape.
1
With the wireless remote display there is no cord or cable to get in the way. The remote display must
be placed within 15-feet (4.5-meters) of the base platform for the two units to be able to communicate
with each other via radio signals.
BASIC OPERATION
1) Ensure that the base platform is placed on a hard, flat, level surface, such as the floor or a
tabletop. Do not place on a plush rug, carpet or other soft or un-even surfaces.
2) Install a 9-Volt battery in the wireless, remote display.
3) Install a 9-Volt battery in the base platform or plug it in to a power outlet using the AC-adapter
shipped with the scale.
4)
To Turn-on the Base: Press the LED light button located under the ROYAL logo on one side of
the base platform.
The base will beep when turned on; and the beep will continue to sound until the base platform is
stabilized and resets itself. Do not place anything on the base platform until after the beep stops
and the remote display is also turned on.
5)
To Turn-on the Remote Display: Press the yellow on/off button on the remote display. Do not
place anything on the base platform before or while the unit is resetting and turning on. Wait for
“0.00” to appear on the display. The scale is then ready for weighing.
6) If dashes appear on the display, then Press the
tare key and wait for “0.00” to appear on the
display.
7) Place the item on the base platform; the weight is displayed within a couple of seconds.
PLEASE NOTE: There are separate on/off switches for each unit, the base platform and the remote
display. Each unit must be turned-on separately for the scale to work properly.
TROUBLEHOOTING:
If only dashes appear on the display:
1. Check to ensure that the base platform is turned-on. The LED light under the ROYAL logo
should be lit when the base platform is turned-on.
2. Press the
tare key on the display to reset the scale to zero.
3. Make sure the remote display is within 15-feet of the base platform. Move the remote display
closer to the base platform. Ensure that there are no other sources of radio signal interference,
such as a large appliance, television, microwave, cordless telephone base, etc.
4. After verifying all 3 steps above, if dashes still appear on the remote display, then place an item
on the base platform for it to weigh, which will trigger the platform to send an electronic signal
to the remote display. Once the remote display receives the signal and displays a number, then
remove the item from the platform, press the
tare key, and you are now ready to continue
weighing boxes as normal.
IMPORTANT PRECAUTIONS:
1) If placed on the floor, be sure the base platform is out of the way and installed in a protected
location where no one can step on, kick or trip over the product.
2) Do NOT place the base platform in a high traffic area, hallway or other pedestrian areas.
2
3) Do NOT place the base platform in areas where there may be spills, standing water or other liquids
on the floor, near or underneath the scale.
4) The scale should not be placed on a porous surface or one that has been treated with any substance
that may interact with the rubber feet. Depending on the surface or cleaning solution, the rubber
may leave marks on the surface. As a precaution, do NOT keep the scale on any valuable surface,
such as antique, precious or fine wood tables, desks, floors, etc.
5) This product is NOT intended for use by children. As with all sensitive electronics, THIS SCALE
SHOULD BE KEPT OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN.
BATTERIES
The scale’s base platform and the wireless remote both have separate power sources. The remote
display must be powered by one 9-Volt battery. The base platform may be powered by either one 9-
Volt battery or by an AC-adapter. The AC-adapter is included and shipped with the scale. The
batteries are not included with the purchase of the scale.
It is strongly recommended that the base should be powered using the AC-adapter, included with the
scale, whenever possible. The base should only be temporarily powered by a 9-Volt battery when the
scale is in a remote location where AC-power is not available. This is to ensure battery-life and the
scale’s weighing accuracy, which may be negatively affected by weak batteries.
A battery icon with the letters “9 VOLT” will blink in the upper right side of the display when the
battery power is low. Immediately to the left of the battery icon are the words “SCALE” and
“DISPLAY”. The battery power is low in the unit that is lit with the battery icon. So, if the word
“SCALE” is lit with the “9 VOLT” battery icon, then the one 9-Volt battery in the base platform must
be replaced as soon as possible, or you need to switch to the AC-adapter. The word “DISPLAY”,
when lit, refers to the battery in the wireless, remote display. Normally, only one word will be lit at a
time; however, it is possible that both words “SCALE” and “DISPLAY” may light-up at the same
time, if the batteries in both units are running low on power at the same time.
AUTO POWER OFF
The remote display has a built-in, pre-programmed auto power off feature to automatically turn off
after a period of 3-minutes of inactivity. To restart, simply press the
on/off button or follow the Basic
Operation instructions above.
Please note that the auto power off feature will only be activated in the base platform when it is being
powered from a battery. When the base platform is powered using the AC-adapter, then the base will
stay “on” until the on/off button is pressed again to turn the unit “off”.
UNIT OF MEASURE
The scale can measure the weight of an item in either pounds or metric (kilograms).
Press the
lb/kg button to scroll through the various units of measure. The scale will display a
weight in: pounds only (0.00-lbs), pounds and ounces (0-lb 00-oz), or kilograms (and grams) (0.00-
kg.). The scale is preset at the factory to default to pounds every time it is turned on.
3
The unit of measure can be changed at any time: such as while the display shows zero with nothing on
the scale platform, after an item has been placed on the platform and the weight is already displayed, or
even after the “hold” function has been activated.
TARE FUNCTION
The tare function allows the display to be reset to show a weight of zero, even after placing an object
on the scale. This feature allows you to get the net weight of an item in a container or a box.
1) After the scale is turned “on”, place the empty container or box on the base platform, the weight of
which you do NOT want included in the weight shown on the display.
2) Press the
tare key once the weight reading of the container is stable and wait until “0.00” appears
on the display.
3) Place item/contents to be weighed into the container.
4) Read the weight of the contents on the display. The weight shown will be the weight of the item in
the container, excluding the weight of the container itself.
If the “hold” function was not enabled, the scale should return to a default weight reading of zero once
the item is removed from the container or box. Removing the container or box itself (the tared weight)
will result in the scale displaying dashes. Press the
tare key to reset the weight reading to zero.
IMPORTANT: Please note that the total weight of the container and its contents should not exceed
the weight capacity of the scale.
HOLD FUNCTION
The “hold” function allows you to keep the weight of an item on the display, after the item has been
weighed and removed from the base platform. Once the
hold key is pressed, the weight will remain on
the display for about 3-minutes after the item has been removed from the scale.
1) Press the
hold key. The “hold” icon will appear in the upper left corner of the display.
2) Place the item on the base platform.
3) Wait for the beep tone to sound.
4) Remove the item from the base platform. The item’s weight reading will remain on the display.
5) Press the
tare key to cancel the held reading and return the scale to zero.
You may also press the
hold key after the item has already been placed on the platform and the stable
weight is shown on the display. In this case, steps 1) and 2) above should be reversed; and steps 3)
through 5) remain unchanged.
Once an item is weighed and the “hold” function is enabled; if the scale senses any change in weight
on the platform (besides removing the actual item being weighed) the weight reading will blink to alert
you of the error. It will stop blinking when either all weight is removed from the scale platform, when
the original item whose weight is on “hold” on the display is placed back on the platform, or if the
tare
key is pressed.
