USING YOUR DYSON MACHINE
PLEASE READ THE ‘IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS’ IN THIS DYSON
OPERATING MANUAL BEFORE PROCEEDING.
CARRYING THE MACHINE
• Carrythemachinebythemainhandleonthebody.
• Donotpressthecyclonereleasebuttonorshakethemachinewhencarrying,or
thecyclonecoulddisengage,falloffandcauseinjury.
OPERATION
• Alwaysextendthecordfullytotheredtapebeforeuse.
• Plugthemachineintothemainelectricitysupply.
• Toswitch‘ON’or‘OFF’pressthepowerbutton,locatedasshown.
• Afteruse:unplug,retractthecordsafely,putthemachineaway.
• Switch‘OFF’themachineandunplugbefore:
–adjustingthesetting
–changingtools
–removingthehoseorairwayinspectionparts.
• Checktoensureyourelectricitysupplycorrespondstothatshownontherating
plate,whichcanbefoundonthebaseofthemachine.Themachinemustonly
beusedasrated.

BRUSH BAR
• Thebrushbarwillalwaysdefaultto‘ON’(spinning)eachtimeyouswitchthe
appliance‘ON’.
• Toswitchthebrushbar‘OFF’(e.gfordelicateflooring)pressinthebuttonon
thecleanerhead.
• Toswitchthebrushbar‘ON’,pulloutthebuttononthecleanerheadonly
enoughsothebrushbarengages.
• Brushbarcontrolcanbedoneonlywhenthemachineis‘ON’.
• Thebrushbarwillautomaticallystopifitbecomesobstructed.See‘Brushbar–
clearingobstructions’.
• Beforevacuumingyourflooring,rugsandcarpets,checkthemanufacturer’s
recommendedcleaninginstructions.
• Somecarpetsmayfuzzifarotatingbrushbarisusedwhenvacuuming.Ifthis
happens,werecommendvacuumingin‘hardfloor’modeandconsultingwith
theflooringmanufacturer.
• Thebrushbaronthemachinemaydamagesomecarpettypes.Ifyouare
unsure,turnoffthebrushbar.
• Takecareifcomingintocontactwiththecarbonfiberbrushes,astheymay
causeminorskinirritation.Washyourhandsafterhandlingthebrushes.
LOOKING AFTER YOUR DYSON APPLIANCE
• Donotcarryoutanymaintenanceorrepairworkotherthanthatshowninthis
DysonOperatingManual,oradvisedbytheDysonHelpline.
• OnlyusepartsrecommendedbyDyson.Ifyoudonotthiscouldinvalidateyour
guarantee.
• Storethemachineindoors.Donotuseorstoreitbelow32°F.Ensurethe
machineisatroomtemperaturebeforeoperating.
• Cleanthemachineonlywithadrycloth.Donotuseanylubricants,cleaning
agents,polishesorairfreshenersonanypartofthemachine.
• Ifusedinagarage,alwayswipethebaseplateandballwithadryclothafter
vacuumingtocleanoffanysand,dirt,orpebblesthatcoulddamagedelicate
floors.
VACUUMING
CAUTION:
• Donotusewithouttheclearbinandfiltersinplace.
• Finedirtsuchasplasterdustorflourshouldonlybevacuumedinverysmall
amounts.
• Donotusethemachinetopickupsharphardobjects,smalltoys,pins,paper
clips,etc.Theymaydamagethemachine.
• Whenvacuuming,certaincarpetsmaygeneratesmallstaticchargesintheclear
binorwand.Theseareharmlessandarenotassociatedwiththemainelectricity
supply.
• Tominimizeanyeffectfromthis,donotputyourhandorinsertanyobjectinto
theclearbinunlessyouhavefirstemptieditandrinseditoutwithcoldwater
(see‘Cleaningtheclearbin’).
• Donotworkwiththemachineaboveyouonthestairs.
• Donotputthemachineonchairs,tables,etc.
• Beforevacuuminghighlypolishedfloors,suchaswoodorlinoleum,firstcheck
thattheundersideofthefloortoolanditsbrushesarefreefromforeignobjects
thatcouldcausemarking.
• Donotpushhardwiththefloortoolwhenvacuuming,asthismaycause
damage.
• Donotleavethecleanerheadinoneplaceondelicatefloors.
• Onwaxedfloorsthemovementofthecleanerheadmaycreateanuneven
luster.Ifthishappens,wipewithadampcloth,polishtheareawithwax,and
waitforittodry.
• Donotusethismachineoutdoors.TheDysonCarCleaningKitisintendedfor
useonlyinsideagarage.
EMPTYING THE CLEAR BIN
• EmptyassoonasthedirtreachestheleveloftheMAXmark–donotoverfill.
• Switch‘OFF’andunplugbeforeemptyingtheclearbin.
• Toremovethecycloneandclearbinunit,pushthereleasebuttontothesideof
thecarryinghandle,asshown.Thecarryinghandlewillbereleased.
• Removethecycloneandclearbinunit.
• Toreleasethedirt,presstheredbinreleasebutton.
• Tominimizedust/allergencontactwhenemptying,encasetheclearbintightlyin
aplasticbagandempty.
• Removetheclearbincarefully.
• Sealthebagtightly,disposeasnormal.
• Closetheclearbinbasesoitclicksintoplaceandissecure.
• Placetheclearbinandcycloneunitintopositiononthefrontofthemainbody
ofthemachine.Therecessintherimofthebaseoftheclearbinmustfitonto
thesupportbracket.
• Pushthecarryinghandledownsoitclicksintoplaceonthetopoftheclearbin
andcycloneunit.Ensureitissecure.
CLEANING THE CLEAR BIN
• Removecycloneandclearbin(instructionsabove).
• Toseparatethecycloneunitfromtheclearbinpressthesmallsilverbuttonon
thecyclone.Separatethecyclonefromtheclearbin.
• Cleantheclearbinwithcoldwateronly.
• Donotusedetergents,polishesorairfreshenerstocleantheclearbin.
• Donotputtheclearbininadishwasher.
• Donotimmersethewholecycloneunitinwaterorpourwaterintoit.
• Cleanthecycloneshroudwithadryclothordrybrushtoremovelintanddust.
• Ensuretheclearbiniscompletelydrybeforereplacing.
• Toreplace,firstclosetheclearbinbasesoitclicksintoplaceandissecure.
• Fittheclearbinontothecyclone.Tosecureit,firstfittheslotonthefrontrimof
theclearbinontothetabonthefrontofthecyclone;thenpushtherearofthe
clearbinintoplacesothesilverbuttonengagesandclicksintoplace.
• Fitthecycloneandclearbinunitontothemachine(instructionsabove).
WASHING YOUR FILTERS
• Yourmachinehastwowashablefilters,locatedasshown.
• Checkandwashthefiltersregularlyaccordingtoinstructionstomaintain
performance.
• Switch‘OFF’andunplugbeforecheckingorremovingthefilters.
• Thefiltersmayrequiremorefrequentwashingifvacuumingfinedust.
• Washwithcoldwateronly.Donotusedetergents.
• Donotputthefiltersinadishwasher,washingmachine,tumbledryer,oven,
microwaveornearanopenflame.
• FilterA
• ToaccessfilterA,firstremovetheclearbinandcycloneunit(instructionsabove).
Liftoutthefilter.
• Washthefilterwithcoldwateronly.Donotusedetergents.Holdunderatap
andrunwaterthroughtheopenendfor10seconds.Turnupsidedownandtap
out.
• Squeezeandtwistwithbothhandstomakesuretheexcesswaterisremoved.
• Runwaterovertheoutsideofthefilterfor15seconds.
• Squeezeandtwistwithbothhandstomakesuretheexcesswaterisremoved.
• Standthefilteronitswide,openendtodry.Leavetodrycompletelyfor24
hours.
• Replacethefilterintothecyclone.Fitthecycloneandclearbinunitontothe
machine(instructionsabove).
• ToremovefilterB:
–turnthecentrallockingdialontheoutercoveroftheballcounter-clockwise
untilthecoverisreleased
–liftoffthecover
–toliftoutthefilter,placeyourfingersunderthetworaisedtabs.Liftoutthe
filter.Useaconstant,firmpressure.
• FilterBshouldberinsedincoldwateronly,insideandoutside,andtappedout
untilthewaterrunsclean,thentappedoutagaintoensureallexcesswateris
removed.(Tapontheplasticrim,notthefiltermaterial.)Leavetodrycompletely
for24hours.
• Itisnormalforthefilterintheballtoturngreyincolor.
• TorefitfilterB:
–slidethefilterbackintotheball
–pushthefilterinuntilthetabsengage–youwillhearaclickwhentheydo.
• Whenrefittingtheoutercoveroftheball,keepturningthecentrallockingdial
clockwise.Whenitstartstoclickitislocked.
IMPORTANT:Afterwashingpleaseleavethefiltertodrycompletely,atleast24
hours,beforerefitting.

THERMAL CUT-OUT
• Thismachineisfittedwithanautomaticallyresettingthermalcut-out.
• Ifanypartbecomesblockedthemachinemayoverheatandautomatically
cut-out.
• Ifthishappens,followtheinstructionsbelowin‘Lookingforblockages’.
