Cooling with solar power
More than 25 years of experience with 12-24 V DC compressors
With the BD Solar compressor Danfoss offers a refrigeration solu-
tion in places without power supply. Due to the exceptionally low
starting current batteries can be avoided if an ice bank is used for
energy storage.
The BD solar compressor is solar-powered. The unique feature is
that the sun energy can be stored in ice packs. During the night
and when there is no sun the ice packs keep the cabinet at desired
temperatures.
The BD Solar compressor opens numerous uses for the manufac-
turers within the rapidly growing area of mobile and stationary
refrigeration, e.g. storage and transportation of drugs, storage of
food under difcult conditions without power supply, ice cream
stands in holiday resorts, remote bottle coolers, refrigerators in
boats to name but a few.
The BD 35F compressor is using R134a as refrigerant and is appli-
cable for 12 and 24 V DC.
The BD 35F compressor covers a capacity range from 20 to 130 W.
Low, medium and high back pressure applications.

Refrigerator sizes up to 120 liters and freezers up to 50 liters.
The BD compressor can be connected to a solar panel without the
use of any additional electronics.
Its wide voltage range (10-45 VDC) makes the BD very suitable for
photovoltaic powering.
An example on the latter was displayed at the UN Johannesburg
Summit September 2002. At this occasion Danfoss Compressors
supplied the compressor for a demo solar cabinet, complying with
the tough demands of UNESCO (storage for 5 days without power
supply).
The BD solar compressor is approved according to the e4 automo-
tive EMC standard and complies with the CE and C-tick standards.
