Do not point the hose, the tube or any other accessory at the eyes or ears nor put it in your
mouth when it is connected to the vacuum cleaner and the vacuum cleaner is switched on.
Caution
Do not suck up large objects, as this may cause the air passage in the tube or hose to become
obstructed.
Whenyouusethevacuumcleanertovacuumashes,nesand,lime,cementdustandsimilar
substances,theporesoftheltercylinderbecomeclogged.Ifyounoticeastrongdecreasein
suctionpower,cleantheltercylinder.
Sucking up large objects may cause the air passage in the tube or hose to become obstructed. If
this happens, the obstruction needs to be removed.
Neverusetheappliancewithoutthemotorprotectionlter.Thisdamagesthemotorand
shortens the life of the appliance.
Theltercylinderisnotwaterproofandcannotbecleanedwithwaterorcleaningagents.Only
cleanthelterwiththeFilter-Cleansystem.
OnlyusethePhilipsltercylindersuppliedwiththeappliance.

ThisPhilipsappliancecomplieswithallstandardsregardingelectromagneticelds(EMF).Ifhandled
properly and according to the instructions in this user manual, the appliance is safe to use based on
scienticevidenceavailabletoday.
Preparing for use
Hose
1 Toconnectthehose,pushitrmlyintotheappliance(‘click’)(Fig.2).
2 Todisconnectthehose,pressthereleasebutton(1)andpullthehoseoutoftheappliance
(2)(Fig.3).
Telescopic tube
1 Toconnectthetubetothehandgripofthehose,pressthespring-loadedlockbuttononthe
handgripandinsertthehandgripintothetube.Fitthespring-loadedlockbuttonintothe
openinginthetube(‘click’)(Fig.4).
2 Todisconnectthetubefromthehandgrip,pressthespring-loadedlockbuttonandpullthe
handgripoutofthetube.
Usethesamemethodtoconnectanddisconnectthenozzles.
3 Adjustthetubetothelengthyoundmostcomfortableduringvacuumcleaning(Fig.5).
Tri-Active nozzle
TheTri-Activenozzleisamulti-purposenozzleforcarpetsandhardoors.
The side brushes catch more dust and dirt at the sides of the nozzle and allow you to clean
better along furniture and other obstacles (Fig. 6).
The opening at the front of the nozzle allows you to suck up larger particles (Fig. 7).

Using the appliance

Adjusting suction power
During vacuum cleaning, you can adjust the suction power to one of 5 different settings.
YoucanadjustthesuctionpowerwiththeMINandMAXbuttons(specictypesonly)ontop
of the appliance (Fig. 16).
Iftheapplianceisequippedwithaninfraredremotecontrol(specictypesonly),youcanadjust
the suction power with the – and + buttons on the infrared remote control (Fig. 17).
1 Whenyouswitchontheappliance,itstartsrunningatthelastselectedsuctionpower
setting.Ifyourapplianceisequippedwithaninfraredremotecontrol(specictypesonly),it

Pausing during use
1 Ifyouwanttopauseforamoment,inserttheridgeonthenozzleintotheparkingslotto
parkthetubeinaconvenientposition(Fig.18).
2 Iftheapplianceisequippedwithaninfraredremotecontrol(specictypesonly),pressthe
standbybuttontoswitchoffthevacuumcleanertemporarily,forinstancewhenyouhaveto
movesomefurniture(Fig.19).
Themiddlesuctionpowerlightgoesontoindicatethatthevacuumcleanerisinstandby
mode.
3 Tocontinuevacuumcleaning,simplypressthestandbybutton,-buttonor+button.

Using the Filter-Clean button
Acleanltercylinderhelpsmaintainhighsuctionpower.
AlwayspresstheFilter-Cleanbuttonwhenyouhavenishedvacuumcleaning.
Thelter-cleaningprocessonlyneedstobeperformedoncetoguaranteepropercleaningofthe
lter.
1 Switchofftheapplianceandleavethemainspluginthewallsocketduringthelter-cleaning
process.
2 Keeptheapplianceinhorizontalposition,withallwheelstouchingtheoor.
Alwaysleavethehoseconnectedtotheapplianceduringthelter-cleaningprocesstoprevent
dustfrombeingblownoutoftheappliance.
3 PresstheFilter-Cleanbutton(Fig.20).
ThelightintheFilter-Cleanbuttongoesonandyouhearabeepbeforethelter-cleaning
processstarts.
Duringthelter-cleaningprocess,theapplianceproducesarattlingnoise.Thisiscompletely
normal.
Whenthelter-cleaningprocessisnished,youhearabeepandthelightintheFilter-Clean
buttongoesout.
4 YoucanalsopresstheFilter-Cleanbuttonduringvacuumcleaning.
Whenyoudothis,themotorstopsrunningandtheltercleaning-processstarts.Duringthe
lter-cleaningprocess,theappliancedoesnotsuckupdirt.
Whenthelter-cleaningprocessisnished,thelightintheFilter-Cleanbuttongoesout.The
motorautomaticallystartsrunningagainandyoucancontinuevacuumcleaning.
Note: If you fail to press the Filter-Clean button after vacuuming several times, the light in the Filter-Clean
button starts ashing. This tells you that you need to press the Filter-Clean button to prevent the lter
from becoming clogged.
Cleaning and maintenance
AlwayspresstheFilter-Cleanbuttonwhenyouhavenishedvacuumcleaning.

Alwaysunplugtheappliancebeforeyouemptythedustbucket.
Thedustbucketisnotdishwasher-proof.

2 Switchofftheappliance,removethemainsplugfromthewallsocketanddisconnectthe
hosefromtheappliance.
3 Unlockthecoverbypressingthereleasebuttonontopofthehandleofthedustbucket(1).

4 Liftthedustbucketoutoftheappliance(Fig.23).
5 Holdthedustbucketoveradustbinandlifttheltercylindercaseoutofthebucket.

washing-upliquid(Fig.27).
Donotcleantheltercylindercasewiththeltercylinderinitunderthetap(Fig.28).
9 Puttheltercylinderbackintotheltercylindercase.
Makesurethattheltercylindercaseisdrybeforeyoureinserttheltercylinderintoit.
10 Cleanthedustbucketwithcoldtapwaterandsomewashing-upliquid.
11 Puttheltercylindercasebackintothedustbucket.
Makesurethatthedustbucketisdrybeforeyoureinserttheltercylindercase.
Ifyouhavenotreinsertedtheltercylindercase,thesuctionpowerlightsstartashingandthe
appliancecannotbeswitchedon.
12 Closethecoverrmly(‘click’).

If you persistently fail to press the Filter-Clean button when the light in the Filter-Clean button
ashes,theltercylinderclogsupwithdirtandthesuctionpowerbecomesinsufcient.
Ifthishappens,unclogtheltercylinderinthefollowingway:
1 Switchofftheapplianceandremovethemainsplugfromthewallsocket.
2 Pressthereleasebuttonontopofthedustbuckethandletounlockthecover(1).Swingthe
coveropen(2)(Fig.22).
3 Liftthedustbucketoutoftheappliance(Fig.23).
4 Holdthedustbucketoveradustbinandliftthecylindercaseoutofthebucket(Fig.24).
5 Turnthehandleontopoftheltercylinderanticlockwise(1)andlifttheltercylinderout
ofthecase(2)(Fig.26).
6 Holdtheltercylinderoveradustbinandcleanitwiththesmallbrush.Gentlybrushfrom
thetopofthelterdownwardsalongtheribsofthelter(Fig.29).
Onlyusethesmallbrushthatcomesasanaccessorywiththeappliance.Otherbrushesmay
damagetheltercylinder.
Theltercylinderisnotwaterproofandcannotbecleanedwithwaterorcleaningagents
(Fig.27).
7 Puttheltercylinderbackintothecaseandturnthehandleclockwiseuntilthelter
cylinderlocksintoposition.
Makesuretheltercylinderissecurelyxedintheltercylindercase(‘click’).
8 Putthecasewiththeltercylinderinitbackintothedustbucketandputthedustbucket
backintotheappliance.
9 Closethecoverrmly(‘click’).
10 Putthepluginthewallsocket.Makesuretheapplianceisinhorizontalposition,withall
wheelstouchingtheoor,andthehoseisconnectedtotheappliance.
11 PresstheFilter-Cleanbutton(Fig.20).

12 Forthebestresult,emptythedustbucketwhenthelter-cleaningprocessisnished(see

1 Unplugtheappliance.
2 Takethemotorprotectionlteroutoftheappliance.Cleanthelterbytappingthedustout
ofitoveradustbin(Fig.30).
Ifthemotorprotectionlterisverydirty,youcanalsorinseitwithcoldtapwater.
Donotusewashing-upliquidoranyothercleaningagenttocleanthemotorprotectionlter.
3 Pressthecleanlterrmlybackintotheltercompartmenttoensurethatitisproperly
placed.
Makesurethatthemotorprotectionlteriscompletelydrybeforeyouputitbackintothelter
compartment.

ThisapplianceisequippedwitheithertheSuperCleanAirHEPA12lterortheUltraCleanAir
HEPA13lter.Theseltersarelocatedinthebackoftheappliance.Theyareabletoremove99.5%
and99.95%respectivelyofallparticlesdownto0.0003mminsizefromtheoutletair.Thisnotonly
includes normal house dust, but also harmful microscopic vermin such as dust mites and their
excrements, which are well-known causes of respiratory allergies.
Note: To guarantee optimal dust retention and performance of the vacuum cleaner, always replace the
HEPA lter with an original Philips lter of the correct type (see chapter ‘Ordering accessories’).

ReplacetheSuperCleanAirHEPA12ltereverysixmonths.Thislterisnotwashable.

Environment
Batteries contain substances that may pollute the environment. Do not throw away batteries
withthenormalhouseholdwaste,butdisposeofthematanofcialcollectionpointfor
batteries.Alwaysremovethebatteriesoftheremotecontrol(specictypesonly)beforeyou
discardandhandintheapplianceatanofcialcollectionpoint.
Do not throw away the appliance with the normal household waste at the end of its life, but
handitinatanofcialcollectionpointforrecycling.Bydoingthis,youhelptopreservethe
environment (Fig. 39).

Troubleshooting
This chapter summarises the most common problems you could encounter with the appliance. If
you are unable to solve the problem with the information below, contact the Customer Care
Centre in your country.
1 ThelightintheFilter-Cleanbuttonashes.
Theltercylinderneedstobecleaned.PresstheFilter-Cleanbuttontocleantheltercylinder.
2 Theappliancecannotbeswitchedonandthesuctionpowerlightsash.
Theltercylindercasewiththeltercylinderinithasnotbeeninsertedintothedustbucket.
Inserttheltercylindercasewiththeltercylinder.
3 Thesuctionpowerisinsufcient.
Perhaps you have selected a low suction power setting. Select a higher suction power setting.
Perhapstheltercylinderislledwithdirt.Ifnecessary,cleanthislter.
Perhapsthemotorprotectionlterand/ortheSuperCleanAirHEPA12orUltraCleanAir
HEPA13lteraredirty.Cleanorreplacethelters.
Check if the nozzle or the hose is blocked up. To remove the obstruction, disconnect the
blocked-up item and connect it (as far as possible) the other way around. Switch on the vacuum
cleaner to force the air through the blocked-up item in opposite direction (Fig. 40).
4 Theinfraredremotecontrol(specictypesonly)doesnotfunction.
Perhaps the batteries have not been inserted properly or are empty. Insert the batteries
properly or replace them.
Remove the lid of the battery compartment (1) and insert two new AAA 1.5-volt batteries (2).
Make sure that the - and + poles point in the right direction. Reattach the lid of the battery
compartment (3) (Fig. 14).
