This conversion kit is to be installed by an Empire Comfort Systems, Inc., distributor (or other

qualied agency¹)*in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and all codes and

requirements of the authority having jurisdiction. Failure to follow instructions could result

in serious injury or property damage. The qualied agency performing this work assumes

responsibility for this conversion.

CHECK SAFETY SHUTDOWN PERFORMANCE

WARNING

Perform the safety shutdown test anytime work is done on a gas system to avoid the possibility

of re or explosion with property damage, personal injury or loss of life.

SAFETY SHUTDOWN SYSTEM

Full Function Control

1. Turn off unit with remote. Main burner and pilot should go off.

2. Pilotgasowshouldstopwithin30seconds.

3. Relightpilotburnerandoperatesystemthroughonecompletecycletomakesureallcontrolsoperateproperly.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONVERSION

1. Ifthereplaceisinstalled,turnOFFthegasand

electricsupplytothereplacebeforemakingagas

conversion.

2. LocatetheFireplaceInstallationInstructionsfor

referenceashowtoremovetheBarrierscreenfront

andGlassDoorassembly.Removethesetwoitems

and set aside.

3. RemoveallinteriordecorativeelementssuchasLogs,

Rocks,and/orglassmediaifpresent.

4. Ifthereplaceisinstalledwithnooutsideaccessto

theouterservicepanel,thenallconversionstepswill

needtobeperformedfrominsidethereplace.

5. Ifaccessisavailabletothevalvethroughtheouter

servicepanel,thenchangingofthesteppermotorwill

bemucheasier.

6. Ifnoouteraccessisavailable,thenfollowthe

remainingstepsforconvertingthegastype.

LiftthefrontGlassRetainerbrackettoremove.See

Figure 1.

8. Ifinstalled,removetheinteriorLinerPanel(s).Referto

theLinerinstallationinstructionsforremoval.

9. Remove(9)PhillipsTrussheadscrewsthatsecurethe

BurnerScreentotheburner.See Figure 2. Lift up the

BurnerScreenCovertoremoveandsetaside.

10. Tochangetheburnerorice,remove(4)5/16"Hex

screwsthatsecuretheoutsideburnerbrackets.Each

endbracketissecuredwith(2)screws.See Figure 3

forthelocationofthefrontscrew,andFigure 4 for the

locationoftherearscrewlocation.

GAS INPUT FOR DIRECT VENT FIREPLACE

CONVERTED TO NATURAL GAS:

DVLL48BP9 (NAT) - 38,000 BTU per hour

ThedirectventgasreplacewhenconvertedtoNatural

Gas will have a manifold pressure of approximately 3.5"

w.c.(.871kPa)atthevalveoutletwiththeinletpressureto

the valve from a minimum of 4.5" w.c. (1.120kPa) for the

purpose of input adjustment to a maximum of 14.0" w.c.

(3.484kPa).

11. TheBurnerassemblycannowbeshiftedtotheleft

about1inchtoreleasetheairshutteroffoftheorice

holder.Theouterburnerbracketsmayneedtobe

gentlytappedtothelefttoassistintheburnerto

movetotheleft.Thereare(4)burnerlockdowntabs

underthecenteroftheburnerassembly.Thesetabs

interlockwithslotsinthetwocenterburnerbrackets.

See Figure 5. Oncethesetabsareunlockedfromthe

centerburnerbrackets,theBurnerassemblycanbe

liftedupwardafewinchestogainaccesstotheorice

andairshutter.Itisrecommendedthattheburner

assemblybesupported.

12. Usinga3/8"wrench,removethe#50oricefromthe

oriceholderanddiscard.See Figure 6.

13. Installthenew#31oriceintotheoriceholder.Donot

overtighten. See Figure 6.

thenadjusttheairshutterbyrotatingitto1/8"open

position. See Figure 7.

Re-installtheBurnerassembly.Aligntheairshutter

overtheoriceholderthenshiftburnerassemblytothe

right.Makesurethecenterburnerretainertabsarefully

engagedwiththecentersupportbrackets.See Figure 8.

loosenthepilothoodassemblyslightlyusinga7/16"

wrench.See Figure 9. Just below the pilot hood and

nutisasmalloricetabthatslidessideways.See

Figure 10.Asmallscrewdrivermaybeusedtogently

movethesmalloricetabovertochangethegastype.

Donotforce.Theoricetabhasgastypesstampedon

thetab.Makesurethetypeofgasbeingconvertedto

isindicatedonthetab,thenre-tightenthePilothoodso

thatthehoodamepointsforwardtotheburner,and

lefttothesensor.Donotovertighten.See Figure 9.

Toaccessthevalve,locateandremove(4)5/16"Hex

screwsthatsecuretheoutsideAccessCoverplate.If

outsideaccessisnotpossible,thenyouwillhaveto

accessthevalvefromtheinsideofthereplace.Inthat

case,locateandremove(12)5/16"Hexscrewsthat

securetheinternalaccessplate(locatedontheright

sideoftherebox).

19. ConvertthegasvalveasinstructedintheS.I.T.

(Propane)GasValveConversionkit.

20.

Theconvertedreplacemustbeconnectedtoasupply

oftheconversiongasandcheckedforleaksatall

connections.

21. Thereplacemustbecheckedtoensureitisoperating

atthecorrectpressureof3.5w.c.

22. Replacetheinternaland/orexternalAccessCover(s)

removedinstep18.

23. InstalltheLinerkit.RefertoLinerinstallation

instructionsasneeded.

24. Installdecorativemediasuchasalogsetand/

orcrushedglassasspeciedusingthereplace

installationmanualinstructionsasaguide.

25. ReplacetheGlassDoorassembly.

26. ReplacetheBarrierScreenassembly.

27. Gasconversioniscomplete.

Themainburnerameandpilotburneramemustbe

checkedforproperamecharacteristics,asoutlinedinthe

InstallationInstructionsandOwner'sManual.

VERIFYING INPUT RATE OF CONVERTED FIREPLACE

Theinputofthereplacemustbecheckedasfollows:

1. Turnoffallothergasappliances.Clockthegasmeter

anddeterminethenumberofsecondsrequiredto

consumeonecubicfootofgas.

2. 3600÷time(inseconds)=cu.Ft.perhour.

3. Thencu.Ft.perhourxheatingvalueofgas=input

rate(Btuh).Oninstallationwithoutgasmeters,check

manifold for proper pressure.

Ifreplaceisnotinstalledorwarrantycardhasnotbeen

returnedtoEmpireComfortSystem’s,Inc.,checkofftype

ofgasconvertedtooncard.Also,indicateconversionby

adding“Conv.”behindtypeofgas.
