ADJUSTING DEPTH OF CUT
The depth of cut can be adjusted easily by
turning the Depth Adjustment Knob (A) Fig.2.
To increase the depth of cut, turn the knob
clockwise. To decrease the depth of cut, turn
the knob counterclockwise. Increments in mm
are shown on the top of the Depth Adjustment
Knob.
SWITCH & LOCK-ON BUTTON
To start the planer, pull the Trigger Switch (B)
Fig.2. Release the Trigger Switch to stop the
planer. This planer also comes with a
Lock-On Button (C) which allows continuous
operation without having to hold the Trigger
Switch. To engage this mechanism, pull the
Trigger Switch and press on the Lock-On
Button, the Trigger Switch will stay locked in
place until disengaged. Pull the Trigger Switch
to disengage the Lock-On mechanism.
ASSEMBLING AND USING EDGE GUIDE
Your planer comes with an Edge Guide (A)
Fig.3 which is used to guide the planer along
your workpiece. Place the planer on your
workpiece as shown in Fig.3 and then insert
the Edge Guide into its mounting hole (the
Edge Guide can be placed on either side of
the planer) until it comes in contact with the
side of your workpiece, then secure it by

Figure 5
PLANING OPERATION FIG. 4
To begin a planing operation, rest the front
end of the planer on your workpiece without
the blades ever making contact. Never turn
on your planer while a blade or the cutterhead
is touching the workpiece. Turn on your
planer and wait for the blades to reach their
full speed. Now you can gently move the
planer forward, apply pressure to the front
and slowly start applying pressure evenly in
the center and the rear.
Hint: The speed and depth of cut determines
the kind of finishing you obtain. To obtain
rough cuts, increase the depth of cut. To
obtain good finish cuts, decrease the depth of
cut and move the planer forward more slowly.
RABBETING
To make a rabbeting cut as shown in the
illustration above, the Alignment Guide must
be used. Draw a cut line on your workpiece
and position the Guide in the mounting hole
on the appropriate side. Align the blade edge
with the cutting line, see Fig.5. Adjust the
Guide against the workpiece edge and lock it
into place. You are now ready for your
rabbeting cut.
CHAMFERING
To make a chamfer cut as shown in the
illustration above, align the V
-groove in the
front base with the edge of the workpiece and
plane it. See Fig.6. This will start to create a
flat edge for the planer base to follow
. Repeat
as necessary.

OPERATION & ADJUSTMENTS
REMOVING OR INSTALLING PLANER
BLADES
Warning!
Make sure the power cord is
unplugged before changing and/or adjusting
blades.
To remove a blade (A) Fig.7 from the
cutterhead (B), remove the 3 hex. bolts (C)
Fig.7 using the supplied socket wrench and
remove the cutterhead fixing plate (D).
The blade (A) and positioning plate (E) (fixed
to the blade with screws) are now free to be
removed from the cutterhead. Unscrew the
fixing screws and separate the blade from the
positioning plate. You are now ready to
replace the blade.
Warning! Replacement blades must be
indentical in size and weight or else
cutterhead vibrations will produce undesired
results. Make sure the cutterhead is clean
before making any installations.
To install a planer blade, first place the new
blade (A) on the blade gauge (B) supplied as
shown in Fig.8. Place the positioning plate (C)
flush against the edge of the blade gauge (B)
and fix it to the new blade using the 2 fixing
screws (D) removed earlier. Slide the blade
and plate assembly into the cutterhead, make
sure the heel of the positioning plate is inserted
into the cutterhead slot. Position the
cutterhead fixing plate over the assembly and
secure it into place using the socket wrench
and the same 3 hex. bolts removed earlier.
Warning! Before every use, make sure all 6
hex. bolts of the cutterhead are tightened
securely.

INSPECTING BLADE SETTING
If a blade or both blades are not installed
properly, your planing surface will end up
rough and uneven. The blades must be
parallel to the surface of the rear base (B).
Fig.9 illustrates examples of proper and
improper blade settings.
1)
Correct setting- the edges of the blades
are perfectly parallel to the rear base
surface.
2) Nicks in surface- One or both blades are
not parallel to the rear base surface.
3) Gouging at start- One or both blades fail to
protrude enough in relation to the rear base
surface.
4) Gouging at end- One or both blades
protrude too far in relation to the rear base
surface.
SHARPENING PLANER BLADES
Always keep your blades sharp and free of
nicks. Use the shapening holder to remove
nicks and produce a fine edge.
To sharpen blades, position both blades (A &
B) Fig.10 in the sharpening holder (C) as
shown. Fix both blades to the sharpening
holder using the wing nuts and carriage bolts
(D) as shown in Fig.10.
Immerse a dressing stone in water for a few
minutes prior to sharpening. Hold the holder
so that the blades both contact the dressing
stone for simultaneous sharpening at the
same angle.

MAINTENANCE
REPLACING CARBON BRUSHES
The carbon brushes of your planer must be
checked regularly. When carbon brushes are
worn down to 1/4” or less, it is time to replace
them. When replacement brushes are
needed, replace both at the same time. Only
use identical King Canada carbon brushes.
To gain access to the front carbon brush cap
(A) Fig.12, remove the dust cover (A) Fig.11
using a Phillips screwdriver. Then remove
brush cap (A) Fig.12 using a flat head
screwdriver. Remove worn out brush and
insert new one. Reposition the brush cap
removed previously using flat head
screwdriver. Replace the dust cover (A)
Fig.11.
Repeat the above steps to replace the rear
carbon brush (B) Fig.12.
REPLACING BELT
After a while you should inspect the condition
of the belt (A) Fig.13, it may become worn out
and need to be replaced.
To inspect and/or change the belt, remove
belt cover (B) by removing 2 fixing screws (C)
using a screwdriver. If the belt seems
damaged, remove the used belt off the front
and rear pulley. Clean pulleys and
surrounding parts before reinstalling new belt.
To install new belt, place belt around the rear
pulley and gently force the belt around the
front pulley. Replace the belt cover and
secure using the previously removed fixing
screws.
An extra set of planer knives are included with
your planer kit. Replacement carbide planer
knives are available (model: KKC-3CB),
contact your local King Canada distributor.
