Position the appliance and allow to stand for two or three hours (ten hours in
Summer) before it is turned on for the first time to allow the system to settle.
Do not position next to any heat source e.g. cooker, boiler or in direct sunlight
etc.
The freezer should be installed on a good firm level surface and providing
adequate air circulation at the sides and rear of the cabinet, a clearance of
10cm must be left between the rear of the appliance and any adjacent
cabinets or walls to allow for adequate air circulation. The appliance is not
designed for a recessed installation (“building in”).
Any floor unevenness should be corrected at the time of installation.
The freezer should be connected to a 230 volts 50 cycle A/C supply by means
of a three pin socket, suitably earthed.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTION
Warning this appliance must be earthed.
This appliance operates from a 13 amp 3 pin plug. The voltage rating is 230
volts AC and should be protected by a 13 amp fuse either in the plug or
distribution board.
The appliance is supplied with a moulded 13 amp 3 pin mains plug fitted with
a 13 amp fuse. Should the fuse require replacement, it must be replaced with
a fuse rated at 13 amps and approved to BS 1362.
The plug contains a removable fuse cover that must be refitted when the fuse
is replaced. In the event of the fuse cover being lost or damaged, the plug
must not be used until a replacement cover has been obtained.
If the moulded mains plug is unsuitable for the socket outlet in your home or is
removed for any other reason, then the fuse should be removed and the cut
off plug disposed of safely to prevent the hazard of electric shock.
There is a danger of electric shock if the cut off plug is inserted into any 13
amp socket outlet.

The brown wire must be connected to the terminal marked
'L' or coloured red.
If the supply cord requires replacing for any reason then the replacement
should be carried out by the manufacturer, its service agent or a similar
qualified person as specially prepared cord and tools are required.
BEFORE USING THE FREEZER
This information is provided in the interest of your safety.
Before operating the appliance, please read the following instructions
carefully, as they cover the basic information for safety of installation,
operation and maintenance.
Before plugging in your freezer for the first time it is recommended that you
remove all packing, clean both the inside and outside surfaces. Use lukewarm
water and a little bicarbonate of soda. 1 teaspoon to 1.2 litres of water.
And wipe dry with a soft cloth.
This appliance must only be used for its intended purpose i.e. the storing and
freezing of domestic edible foodstuffs.
SAFEGUARDING THE ENVIROMENT
AND CHILDREN
If you are discarding an old refrigeration product with a lock or catch fitted to
the lid/door, do not allow young children to play or hide inside, ensure that the
appliance is left in a safe condition to prevent them becoming trapped inside
and suffocating.
Packing
Keep the packaging materials (plastic bags, polystyrene parts, etc) out of
reach of children, as they are potentially dangerous.
PRECAUTIONS AND GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS
Only use the freezer for storing frozen food, freezing fresh food and
production of ice cubes.
Do not cover or obstruct the ventilation opening which is situated at the rear of
the appliance.
Do not freeze / store liquids in glass containers in the freezer as there is a risk
of bursting.
Do not consume ice cubes or ice lollies immediately after taking them out of
the freezer as there is a risk of freeze burn and they should be allowed to
warm slightly before consumption.
Do not store effervescent drinks in the freezer.
Before servicing or cleaning the appliance, disconnect from the mains supply.
Should the power supply cable become damaged, it should be replaced by a
qualified service engineer as it is a special type.
TEMPERATURE CONTROL
The thermostat maintains a constant temperature in a chosen position. A
normal temperature of - 18
0
C is obtained by turning the thermostat control
knob to number 3.
However, it should be noted that if the fast freeze switch is in the on position,
the compressor will not stop running until the switch is returned to the off
position.
Setting the temperature control
To control the internal temperatures, adjust the control dial according to the
ambient temperature or purpose of use, When you turn the thermostat control
knob clockwise, the internal temperature will be reduced (colder), On the
contrary, when you turn the thermostat control knob counter-clockwise, the
internal temperature will be increased
The temperature control dial has 6 settings from the coldest “6” to the
warmest “1” (off, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ,6) coldest.
The first time you turn the unit on set the temperature control to the mid way
position.
After 24 hours, adjust the temperature control to the setting that best suites
your requirements.
Turning the thermostat control to the “OFF” position stops the cooling cycle,
but does not shut off the mains power to the appliance, remove the mains
plug to disconnect the appliance from the electrical supply.
If the appliance is unplugged, or there is a power cut, or turned off, you must
wait 10 minutes before restarting the appliance.
If you attempt to restart before this time delay, the appliance may not re-start
and you will have to wait a further 10 minutes.
There is one mains indicator light (coloured green) that illuminates whenever
there is power to the appliance.
There is also a fast freeze switch (coloured amber) for continual operation of
the compressor for fast freezing.
Fast freeze
The chest freezer will fast freezer your produce successfully but for the best
results you are advised to follow these instructions carefully.
Only use top quality products freezing preserves their quality but cannot
improve it.
Carefully clean and prepare each item and wrap in polythene or place in
waxed cartons.
Keep down the size of each package to a minimum, do not forget that a
square packages will utilise more effectively the storage space in your freezer.
Freeze each package as quickly as possible. Produce to be frozen should be
placed in as much contact as possible with the sides in the freezer.
Avoid placing unfrozen food in contact with food previously frozen.
Do not overload the freezer with fresh produce. The maximum amount of
fresh produce that can be frozen in 24 hours is 4 kilograms. Frozen food
should be used in rotation and therefore packages should be carefully
labelled.
Turn the fast freeze switch on 24 hours before the desired freezing is to be
effected. After this period of time the appliance will be ready to freeze the
fresh produce.
24 hours after putting in the fresh produce the freezing operation should be
completed the fast freeze switch should then be switched to the off position
and the thermostat control knob left in the normal position.
Commercially frozen pre-packed food should be stored in accordance with the
frozen food manufacturers instructions.
DEFROSTING
Small amounts of frost will accumulate inside the freezer depending upon the
length of time during which the lid is left open or the amount of moisture
introduced. It is essential to ensure that no frost or ice is allowed to form at
places where it will affect the close fitting of the lid gasket. This might allow air
to penetrate the cabinet, thus encouraging continuous running of the
compressor. Thin frost formation is quite soft and can be removed with a
brush or plastic scraper. Do not use metal or sharp scrapers, mechanical
devices or other means to accelerate the defrosting process. Remove all
dislodged frost from the cabinet floor. For the removal of light frosting it is not
necessary to switch off the freezer.
For the removal of heavy ice deposits disconnect the freezer from the power
supply and empty the contents into cardboard boxes and wrap in thick
blankets or layers of paper to keep them cold.
Defrosting will be most effective if carried out when the freezer is nearly
empty, and it should be carried out as quickly as possible to prevent undue
increase in temperature of the contents. Do not use metal or sharp scrapers,
mechanical devices or other means to accelerate the defrosting process.
Increase in temperature of frozen food packages during defrosting may
shorten the storage life. Provided that the contents are well wrapped and
placed in a cool area they should keep for several hours. Examine the
contents when replacing them in the freezer and if some of the packages
have thawed out it should be eaten within 24 hours or be cooked and re-
frozen.
Draining the defrost water is done by removing the drain plug which is
situated on the side of the appliance and one inside the appliance.
Before doing so do not forget to place a dish or plastic container under the
outlet to collect the water.
Clean the inside with a solution of warm water with a little bicarbonate of soda
and then dry thoroughly. Wash all removable parts in the same way and
reassemble.
Reconnect the freezer to the power supply and allow to run for 30 minutes
before reloading with produce.
The outside of the freezer can be cleaned in this way too, At least once a
year a thorough cleaning routine is recommended in order to maintain a good
standard of cleanliness and hygiene. DO NOT FORGET TO REFIT THE
DRAIN PLUGS.
If after defrosting, the freezer is not going to be used for a long period of time,
then it must be cleaned and dried and the lid propped ajar.
Cleaning your freezer
Turn the temperature control to the “OFF”, position, unplug the freezer, and
remove the internal basket.
Clean the inside of the freezer with a solution of warm water with a little
bicarbonate of soda and then dry thoroughly. Wash all removable parts in the
same way and reassemble.
The outside of the freezer can be cleaned with mild detergent and dried with a
soft cloth,
Remove any dust from the condenser on the rear of the appliance with a soft
brush or vacuum cleaner at least once a year. This thorough cleaning routine
is recommended in order to maintain a good standard of cleanliness and
hygiene.
Reconnect the freezer to the power supply and allow to run for 30 minutes
before reloading with produce.
Do’s and don’ts
Do- Clean and defrost your appliance regularly (See “Defrosting”)
Do- Take off any unusable leaves on vegetables and wipe off any soil.
Do- Leave lettuce, cabbage, parsley and cauliflower on the stem.
Do- Wrap raw meat and poultry loosely in polythene or aluminium foil. This
prevents drying.
Do- Wrap fish and offal in polythene bags.
Do- Wrap food with a strong odour or which may dry out, in polythene bags,
or aluminium foil or place in airtight container.
Do- Check contents of the freezer compartment every so often.
Do- Keep food for as short a time as possible and adhere to “best before” and
“Use by” etc. dates.
Do- Store commercially prepared food in accordance with the instructions
given on the packets.
Do- Always choose high quality fresh food and be sure it is thoroughly clean
before freezing it.
Do- Wrap all food in aluminium foil or food quality polythene bags and make
sure any air is excluded.
Do- Use the basket as supplied by the manufacturer as there is a risk of poor
performance when the basket is not used.
Don’t- Cover the basket with any protective materials which may obstruct air
circulation.
Don’t- Store poisonous or any dangerous substances in your freezer. It has
been designed for the storage of edible foodstuffs only.
Don’t- Consume food which has been frozen for an excessive length of time.
Don’t- Store cooked and fresh food together in the same container. They
should be packaged and stored separately.
Don’t- Let defrosting food or food juices drip onto already stored food.
Don’t- Leave the door open for long periods, as this will make the appliance
more costly to run and cause excessive ice formation.
Don’t- Use sharp edged objects such as knives or forks to remove the ice.
Don’t- Never use hairdryers, or electrical appliances for defrosting only use
item recommended by the manufacturer.
Don’t- Put hot food into the appliance. Let it cool down first.
Don’t- Put liquid-filled bottles or sealed cans containing carbonated liquids
into the freezer, as they may burst.
Don’t- Give children ice-cream and water ices direct from the freezer section.
The low temperature may cause ‘freezer burns’ on the lips.
Don’t- Try to keep frozen food which has thawed; it should be eaten within 24
hours or cooked and refrozen.
FREEZER BREAKDOWN
In the event of the freezer failing to operate because of a power failure, do not
worry unduly. Providing care is taken to ensure that the lid is kept closed,
frozen food will keep within the freezer for at least 24 hours. Extra protection
can be given by covering the freezer with two or three thick blankets. If a long
breakdown is anticipated, try to get the produce into another freezer or cold
store, if possible, a supply of Dry Ice to place within the cabinet.
If the breakdown is with the cabinet and not a blown fuse or power failure (do
not forget that the temperature control regulates the amount of time during
which the compressor operates, a silent compressor does not necessarily
mean a breakdown).
