Orion® E-Series Safety Film Solar Filters
To ensure a snug t of the E-Series Safety Film Solar Filter on your instrument, you
may need to apply two or more felt strips to the inside of the lter cell. Here’s the proper
procedure for doing it.
1. Use scissors to cut two strips from the supplied piece of adhesive-backed felt. Place
the lter on a surface as shown in Figure 1, and place the felt strip along the cell
wall until it touches the bottom. Mark the strip at the edge of the lter cell as shown,
then cut it at the mark. Cut a second strip to the same length.
2. Peel of the backing material off one strip, then place it on the inside surface of the
cell in the orientation shown in Figure 2. Press the strip rmly onto the cell.
3. Then apply the second strip about 1/3 of the way around the cell (120 degrees), in the
same vertical orientation as the rst strip, as shown.
Now carefully slide the lter, with the two felt strips applied to the inside of the cell, onto
the front of your instrument. Does it t snugly? If so, you’re done. If it doesn’t, you may
need to add a third strip about 120 degrees from each of the others, which would result
in three strips positioned roughly equidistant from each other inside the cell.
If after that the lter still does not t snugly over the instrument’s front end, the lter is the
wrong size for your instrument.
DO NOT USE THE FILTER IF IT FITS LOOSELY ON THE INSTRUMENT! THIS COULD
RESULT IN THE FILTER DISLODGING DURING USE, WHICH COULD CAUSE
PERMANENT EYE DAMAGE.
