This equipment has been tested and found to comply with

Read this manual carefully to get the best performance from
this product. After reading it, keep it in a safe place with the
warranty card for future reference.

Before use Installing an optional board
ATTENTION
Before starting installation or uninstallation of an optional
board, always disconnect the power cord from the outlet and
the amplifier.

Confirming operation
Turn the amplifier on, and turn the INPUT knob or press the
INPUT (k/j) buttons on the remote to confirm that you can
select the COAX, OPT and USB inputs.
o When COAX, OPT or USB input is selected, the sampling fre-
quency of the input digital signal appears at the top of the
input name area on the display.
Examples: PCM44kHz, DSD11.2MHz
If the above inputs cannot be selected, reinstall the optional
board.
NOTE
Hereafter, the amplifier with an optional board installed in it is
referred to as the unit in this Owners Manual.
1 Loosen the attachment screws and remove the
blank panel that covers the optional board slot.
2 Insert the optional board in the optional board
slot and tighten the attachment screws.
Align the optional board edges with the guides inside the
card slot and insert it securely.
o Directly touching parts on the circuit board with your
hand could result in malfunction. Always hold an
optional board by its panel or the edges of the printed
circuit board.
o Do not push the optional board with excessive force. If
you are unable to insert it successfully, pull it out once
and try again.

Precautions when making connections
o After completing all other connections, plug the power plug
into a power outlet.
o Read the owners manuals of all devices that will be con-
nected, and follow their instructions.
o Do not bundle connecting cables with power cords. Doing
so could cause noise.
A OPTICAL digital audio input connector
Use this to input digital audio. Connect the optical digital
audio output connector of a digital audio device to it.
Use a commercially-available optical digital cable
with rectangular terminals for connection.
B RCA COAXIAL digital audio input connector
Use this to input digital audio. Connect the coaxial digital
audio output connector of an audio output device to it.
Use a commercially-available RCA coaxial digital
cable for connection.
C USB port
Use to input digital audio from a computer. Connect it to a
computer's USB port.
Use a commercially-available USB2.0 cable (A-B type)
for this connection.
ATTENTION
Before connecting a computer that is running a Windows
OS, you must install the dedicated driver on the computer
(page 8).
Proper connection is not possible with a computer that
does not have this driver installed.

Complete all other connections before turning

o Carefully read the manuals of the devices that you are
connecting and follow their instructions when making
connections.
o Do not bundle connecting cables with power cords.
Doing so could cause noise.
o Connect all plugs completely.

Connecting with a computer and playing back audio files
Installing the driver
When using Mac
The driver works with the following versions (as of May 2016).
OS X Lion (10.7)
OS X Mountain Lion (10.8)
OS X Mavericks (10.9)
OS X Yosemite (10.10)
OS X El Capitan (10.11)
o This unit will run with the standard OS driver, so there is no
need to install a special driver.
When using Windows
The driver works with the following versions (as of May 2016).
Windows 7 (32/64-bit)
Windows 8 (32/64-bit)
Windows 8.1 (32/64-bit)
Windows 10 (32/64-bit)
Installing the Windows driver on a computer
In order to play audio files stored on a computer through this
unit, you must install a dedicated driver on that computer
beforehand. Download the dedicated driver from the TEAC
Global Site.

Install the dedicated driver software after downloading it
from the above page.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
You must install the dedicated driver software before connect-
ing this unit with a computer using a USB cable.
If you connect the unit to the computer by USB before installing
the driver, it will not function properly.
For detailed instructions about installing the driver, please see
our download page.
Depending on the composition of the computer hardware and
software, operation might not be possible even with the above
operating systems.

About the transmission mode
This unit connects using high-speed asynchronous mode.
The sampling frequencies that can be used for transmission are
44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4, 192, 352.8 and 384 kHz as well as DSD at
2.8, 5.6 and 11.2 MHz.
When connected correctly, you will be able to select “ESOTERIC
USB AUDIO DEVICE” as the audio output for the operating system.
In asynchronous mode, the audio data transmitted from the
computer will be processed using this unit's clock, enabling it to
reduce jitter caused during data transmission.
Playing audio files
You can use ESOTERIC HR Audio Player to play audio files on a
computer.

and Mac that supports high-quality playback of high-resolution
audio sources. You can use it to enjoy the high-quality playback
of high-resolution audio sources, including DSD, without needing
to make complicated settings.
1 Connect this unit to the computer using a USB cable.
Use a commercially-available USB cable with a con-
nector that matches that of this unit.

2 Turn the computer on.
Confirm that the operating system has started properly.
3 Press the POWER button to turn the unit on.

Turn the INPUT knob to select USB.
5 Start playback of an audio le on the computer.
Better sound quality can be achieved by maximizing the
volume output from the computer and adjusting the

volume with the amplifier. Set the amplifier volume to the
minimum when you start playback and gradually increase it.
o The computer cannot be used to control this unit, nor
can this unit be used to control the computer.
o This unit cannot transmit audio files to the computer
by USB.
o Do not do any of the following when playing back audio
files over the USB connection. Doing so could cause the
computer to malfunction. Always quit the audio play-
back software before doing any of the following.

Changing the input
o Computer operation sounds will also be transmitted
when playing back audio files over the USB connection.
To avoid outputting these sounds, make the necessary
settings on your computer.
o If you connect this unit with the computer or change
the input to USB after starting the audio playback soft-
ware, audio files might not play back correctly. If this
should occur, restart the audio playback software or
restart the computer.

Setting mode
When an OP-DAC1 optional board is installed, the following
items are added to Settings Menu 1.
PCM digital filter
PCMF>***
This setting turns the digital filter for PCM input signals sent to
the D/A converter on or off.
o By default, the setting is OFF.
OFF
The digital filter for PCM playback is disabled.
FIR1
An FIR filter with a steep roll-off is used to sharply cut signals
outside the audio band.
FIR2
An FIR filter with a slow roll-off is used to gently cut signals
outside the audio band.
SDLY1
A short delay filter with a steep roll-off is used to sharply cut
signals outside the audio band.
SDLY2
A short delay filter with a slow roll-off is used to gently cut
signals outside the audio band.
DSD digital filter
DSDF>***
This setting turns the digital filter for DSD input signals sent to
the D/A converter on or off.
o By default, the setting is OFF.
OFF
The digital filter that cuts signals above 50 kHz is disabled.
ON
The 50kHz cutoff digital filter is used.
o Use this setting if modulation noise, for example, occurs
when set to OFF.

Troubleshooting
If you experience a problem with the unit, please take a
moment to review the following information before requesting
service. Moreover, the problem might be caused by something
other than this unit. Please also check the operation of the con-
nected units.
If this product still does not operate correctly, contact the retailer
where you purchased it.
No sound is output from the speakers. The sound is
distorted.
e In this case, turn the power off and check the connec-
tions with the digital audio source device, the amp and
the speakers (page 8).
No sampling frequency is shown on the display.
e Turn the device that is connected to the selected input
connector on.
e Confirm that the device is properly connected to the
selected input connector.
This unit uses a microprocessor, so noise and other
external interference could cause it to stop functioning
properly. If this occurs, turn the unit off once, and then
restart it after waiting for about one minute.
