Welcome!
Welcome to the world of the MiniDisc! Here
are some of the capabilities and features you
will discover with the new MiniDisc player.
Small body almost the size of a MiniDisc
jacket
Ideal weight and size; fits in your shirt
pocket.
Shock-resistant memory offsets up to 40
seconds of optical read errors.
Low power-consumption design enables
long playback with a single "chewing-gum
type" rechargeable battery.
HOLD cover on the main unit prevents
unintended operation.
Shuttle dial remote control with LCD
Keep the main unit in your pocket and
operate the MiniDisc player through the
shuttle dial on the remote control; The LCD
diplays track information, playback mode
as well as battery condition.
zMD playing
Playing an MD! A
Before using the supplied rechargeble battery
for the first time, charge it. Other choices are a
dry battery and house current (see "Power
Sources").
The player automatically switches to play the
stereo or monaural sound according to the
recorded sound.
1 Charge the supplied rechargeble battery
NH-9WM with the supplied battery
charger.
Full-charging takes about 60 minutes (the
charger lamp goes off).
A fully-charged battery should power
consecutive playback for about 6 hours
before you need to recharge it.
2 Open the rechargeable battery
compartment lid and insert the charged
battery.
3 Insert an MD.
1 Push the OPEN button and open the
lid.
2 Insert the MD with the label side
facing up, and press the lid down to
close.
4 Play the MD.
1 Connect the headphones (supplied) to
the remote control.
2 Connect the headphones with remote
control (supplied) to the
2 (headphones)/REMOTE jack of the
player.
3 Press (. (Turn the control to
(+ on the remote control.)
The player starts to play the first track.
A short beep sounds in the
headphones.
4 Press the VOL +/– buttons to adjust
the volume.
The volume will be shown in the
display on the remote control.
To stop play, press p.
A long beep sounds in the headphones.
Other disc operation

* To go backwards or forward quickly without
listening, press P and hold down =or +
( keep the control turned to =or (+
on the remote control).
** Once you open the lid, the point to start play
will change to the beginning of the first track.
If the playing does not start
Make sure the player is not locked. See “To
lock the controls”.
Playing tracks repeatedly B
Press the PLAY MODE button while the
player is playing an MD.
Each time you press the PLAY MODE button,
the play mode indication changes as follows:
(none) (normal play)
All the tracks are played once.
v
"f" (all repeat)
All the tracks are played repeatedly.
v
"f 1" (single repeat)
A single track is played repeatedly.
v
"f SHUF" (shuffle repeat)
All the tracks are played repeatedly in
random order.
Using other functions
To know the track name and time C
Press the DISPLAY button on the remote
control while the player is playing an MD.
Each time you press the DISPLAY button, the
elapsed time of the current track and the track
number, the track name and number, and the
disc name and the number of the track
recorded on the MD appear.
Note
Disc and track names appear only with MDs that
have been electronically labeled.
To lock the controls D
On the unit, close the cover over the buttons
to lock the controls of the unit.
On the remote control, slide the HOLD switch
in the direction of the c.
To emphasize bass (Digital Mega
Bass function) E
Slide the DIGITAL MEGA BASS switch and
choose 1 (slight effect) or 2 (strong effect).
To protect your hearing (AVLS) F
Set the AVLS (Automatic Volume Limiter
System) switch to LIMIT.
The volume is kept at a moderate level, even
if you try to turn the volume above the
limited level.
zPower Sources
Using on a battery G
Attach the supplied battery case to the player,
and then insert one LR6 alkaline battery
(supplied) with the correct polarity.
The battery should power consecutive
playback for about 8 hours before you need to
replace it.
When to recharge or replace the
battery
When b flashes in the display, the
rechargeable battery or the dry battery is
weak. Recharge the rechargeable battery or
replace the dry battery . When the battery
power is gone, "LoBATT" flashes in the
display of the remote control and the power
goes off.
Using on house current H
Before using the player, remove the
rechargeble battery if it is installed.
Attach the supplied battery case and connect
the AC-E15L AC power adaptor (not
supplied) to the DC IN 1.5V jack of the battery
case.
Do not use any other AC power adaptor.
Do this (Beeps in the
headphones)
Press P on the remote
control. (Continuous short
beeps)
Press P again to resume
play.
Press = once.
Turn the control to =
on the remote control.
(Three short beeps)
Press + once.
Turn the control to
(+ on the remote
control. (Two short beeps)
Keep pressing =.
Keep the control turned to
= on the remote
control.
Keep pressing +.
Keep the control turned to
(+ on the remote
control.
