6 Electrical connection
6.1 Connecting requirements
LWARNING
Danger! Electric voltage!
Risk of electric shock and injury from startle response.
De-energize all power sources before connecting.
In the building installation, specify an appropriate switch or power switch according to
IEC EN 61010. This switch must be easily accessible and installed close to the device
and marked as a disconnector.
Before commissioning the device, measure the supply voltage and compare it with the
voltage specifications on the nameplate. Only connect the device if the supply voltage
measured matches the specifications.
6.2 Connecting the device
6.2.1 Grounding terminal
The grounding terminal protects the HXF40 electronic circuits from short circuits and
dissipates static charges collected on the housing.
Minimum cable cross-section for the grounding terminal: 4 mm2 (11 AWG).

Supply voltage
The supply voltage is 24 VDC (±20 %). You may only use power units that ensure safe
electrical isolation according to DIN VDE 0570-2-6 and EN61558-2-6 (SELV / PELV or
NEC Class 2) and that are designed as limited-energy circuits.
6.3 RS485 serial interface
The RS485 interface can perform as an input or output. The terminals are galvanically
isolated from each other and from grounding.

Maximum total cable resistance: 250 Ω
Low capacitance
6.4 LAN interface
The LAN interface is compatible with IEEE 802.3. There are 2 shielded RJ45 sockets
available for connection. The LAN interface can be used to connect the device to other
devices with a hub or switch. The office equipment standard EN 60950 must be taken into
consideration for safe distances between equipment. The assignment corresponds to an
MDI-interface (AT&T258) conforming to standards so that a shielded 1:1 cable with a
maximum length of 100 m (328 ft) can be used. The Ethernet interface can operate with a
bandwidth of 1 Gbit/s, 100 Mbit/s and 10 Mbit/s. Direct connection to a PC is possible
with a crossover cable. Half-duplex and full-duplex data transmission are supported.
