ThebaerypoweredNovaProhasaremovable
BaeryPackthatshouldbechargedbeforeuse(see
secon7).TheBaeryPackiskeyedtoensure
correctinseronintotheNovaProandBaery
Charger.Makesuretoremovethetapeprotecng
thebaeryterminalsandchargethebaery
beforeuse.
TheACpoweredNovaProhasanexternalpower
adapterthatmustbepluggedintoanACoutlet
(115Vacor230Vac)usingtheappropriate
connector.Interchangeableplugsallowfor
operaoninmostcountries(seesecon9).
Withthepowersource(batteryorAC)insertedintotheNovaPro,
turntheunitonbypressingandholdingthePOWERbutton
untilthedisplayilluminates,thenreleasethebutton.Tooperatethe
unit,pullthetrigger.
Theunitcanbelockedinconnuousoperaonbypressingthe
POWERbuonwhilesqueezingthetrigger.Keepholdingthe
POWERbuonasyoureleasethetriggerandtheLockiconwill
showonthedisplay.Toremovethelocksimplypullthetrigger.
Toturntheunitoff pressandholdthePOWERbuonunl

TheNovaPro100hasasinglemodeofoperaon:STROBE,UNLESSthe
oponalLaserModuleisinstalledintheunit.Thisaddstwoaddional
modes:
LASER—usesthelaserbeamtotriggerthestroboscopesothatthe
ashesmaybesynchronizedtoanexternaltargetsuchasakeywayina
shaorapieceofreecvetapeonafanblade.
TACH(Tachometer)‐usesthelasertomeasurethespeedofarotangor
reciprocangtargetusingreeconsfromakeywayinashaorapiece
ofreecvetapeonafanblade.
ThemodeofoperaonisselectedintheMODEmenu.Seesecon5.2.
4.1STROBEMode
Inthismodethestrobegeneratestheashratesetbytheuser.The
strobewillnotashunlthetriggerisdepressed.Theusercanset
theashrateasfollows:

isinstalled.ThismodeusestheLASERtotriggerthestrobeash.

Bypullingthetriggerandaimingthelaseratareecvetargeton
therotangorreciprocangmachine,thestrobewillasheachme
areeconisreceivedallowingtheusertovirtually“stopmoon”.

6.STROBEBRIGHTNESS
Thestrobe’sbrightnessdependsonhowwidethestrobe’sflashpulseis;the
widerthepulse,thebrightertheflashfromtheLEDsappearstobe.Thereis
however,adownsidetothewiderpulses.Allstrobesworkbygivingshort
burstsoflight(thepulsewidth)atarapidrepetitionrate(theflashrate).
Strobesrelyonthepersistenceofthehumaneye(theabilitytoremember
andimage)anditsresponsetobrightlighttogiveanapparentstopmotion
image.Imagineashaftrotatingat6000RPMoronerotationevery1/100of
asecond(10msec).Ifthestrobeflashesonceevery10msecforabrief
moment,theuserseestheflashatthesamespotintherotationoftheshaft
andthepersistenceoftheeyeremembersthisuntilthenextflashmaking

theshaftappearedtobestopped.Asthetargetisrotatingthereissome
movementevidentduringthestrobeflash.Thelongertheflashduration,
themoreobvioustherotationisandthisincreasestheblur.

Blurcanbecalculated–iftheshaisturning
at6000RPM,ittakes10msectocomplete
onerevoluon.Ifthestrobeashduraonis
100µsec(1/100ofamillisecond),thesha
willturn:
(ashduraon/meperrotaon)x360°,
whichis(.0001/.01)x360=3.6°.Soyouwill
seetheshaappeartomove3.6°.
Astheashpulsewidensyouwillseegreater
degreesofrotaonwhichresultsinmoreblur
andabrighterperceivedilluminaon(the
LEDsareonlongersotheaveragelightthe
eyesseeisgreater).Thetradeoff isblur
versusbrightness.Thefurtherawaythe
rotangpointisfromthecenteraxisthe
fasterthetangenalvelocityandtheworsetheblurappearstobe.

constantastheashrateincreasesordecreases.Thestrobe
automacallycalculateshowwidethepulsewidthshouldbeat

6.3BrightnessinPulseDuraon
Brightnesscanalsobesettoaxedduraonpulseinmilliseconds.
Theashrateremainsconstantirrespecveoftheashrate,thusas
theashrateincreases,theimagewillgetbrighterandmore
blurred.
Note:Therearetwolimitsmaintainedbythestrobetheash
pulsewidthcanneverbegreaterthan2.0msec(milliseconds)nor
canitexceed14°ofrotaon.
Thestrobeautomacallyadjuststhepulsewidthandrotaonvaluesas
theashrateisincreasedordecreasedtomaintainthelimitsatall
mes.Forexample—aashrateof600ashesperminute(10Hz),14°
ofrotaonrepresentsaashpulsewidthof3.8msec.Thestrobewill
limitthisvalueto2.0msecor7.3°ofrotaon(blur).

rechargeableLithiumIonbaerypack,externalchargerand
powersupply.TheBaeryPackisshippedinamostly
dischargedstateandhastapeovertheterminals.
