2. Instructions for Installing External Damper Kit
1. Ensure that the electrical power to fan is shut off.
2. If the Front Wire Guard has not been installed on the Cone, skip to Step 4.
3. Remove the four bolts, nuts and washers holding the Front Wire Guard and remove the wire guard. Retain
these parts for re-installation later. See Figure 1.
4. Locate the Damper Ring Assembly (52"/6403-3151, 36"/6403-3165,48”/6403-2705), the Top Ring Bracket
(52"/0404-8016, 36"/0404-10185, 48”/0404-10814), the two Side Ring Brackets (52"/0404-8017, 36"/0404-
10184, 48”/0404-10813) and the Bottom Ring Bracket (52"/0404-8018, 36"/0404-10183, 48”/1815). Note
that the Top Ring Bracket is shorter in length than the Bottom Ring Bracket. The Right and Left Brackets
have extended slots to enable cone alignment. Install the Brackets using two 1/4x20x1 Bolts and Lock Nuts.

5. Hold the doors of the Damper Ring in the full open position and lift into place in the fan housing. The four bolts
securing the cone will be also be used to hold the Damper Ring. See Figure 3. IMPORTANT: First, remove the
top bolt in the cone and install the top Damper Ring Bracket. Securely tighten the top bolt . Now, proceed with
the side Brackets and finally the bottom Bracket. See Detail D.
6. Mark the location for the bolt for the
Door Bumper (52"/0403-7606) at the
bottom front of the Fan Housing. For
the 52" fan, measure 32 ¾" from the
front center of the Fan Cone. See
Figure 4. Drill a 3/8" hole for the Door
Bumper. For the 36" fan see Step 8.
7. For the 52" door, bolt the bottom of the Door Bumper using
3/8"x16x1-1/4" Cap Screw, 3/8" washer and 3/8"x16 lock
nut. See Figure 5 and 6. Bolt the top of the Door Bumper
during Step 10 when attaching the top bolt of the Front Wire
Guard.

8. The Door Bumper for the 36" fan (0404-10290) hooks
into Pivot Block Bracket at the bottom of the Damper Ring. Hook the Door Spring (1024-0105) to
the Door Bumper. See Figure 7.
9. The Door Bumper for the 48" fan (0404-10646) hooks
into Pivot Block Bracket at bottom of the Damper Ring.
At the opposite end, the Door Spring (1024-0105)
will hook to the Door Bumper. See Figure 8.

10. 36” and 52” Fans: Install the Front Wire Guard using
four 5/16x1-1/4” bolts, eight 5/16" washers and four
5/16" nuts. See Figure 9. Note in Detail E, 36” Fan:
the top of the Door Bumper/Bumper Spring hooks on
the vertical support bar above the top Wire Guard
mounting ring. 52” Fan: the top of the Door Bumper
inserts above the top Wire Guard mounting ring
when bolting the Guard back into the cone.
11. 48” Fan: Install the four Cone Guard Brackets onto
the Front Wire Guard using four 5/16x7/8” bolts, four 5/16" washers
and four 5/16" nuts supplied. Slide the head of the bolt into the slot
on the bracket. Insert bolt through eye of the Guard. Slide on
washer and tighten with nut. See Figure 10 Detail F. Second,
install the four Cone Guard Brackets using the four 5/16x1-1/4”
bolts, eight 5/16" washers and four 5/16" nuts that mounted the
guard on the cone originally. See Figure 10, Detail G. Hook the
Bumper Spring into the top of the Door Bumper Rod. Note in
Figure 10, the Bumper Spring hooks on the vertical
support bar above the top Wire Guard mounting ring.

12. Attach Rear Wire Guard (52"/6403-2145,
36"/6403-2143, 48” /6403-2141) by using
the two Spring Clips that are installed on
both sides of the fan housing. See Figure
11, Detail F. Lift the Wire Guard in place
and fasten with Spring Clips.
13. Connect power to the fan and check for proper operation.
14. Installation complete.
