Introduction
Introduction
This document aims to provide guidelines for the correct design and installation of the SM
4.0 system, which consists of the Weintek control panel and a variable number, from 1 to
31, of BCF231 coolers.
The user of this document will be responsible for:
1) defining the plant configuration, in particular:
- how many coolers to install and of what type (axial/centrifugal);
- defining for each one if it will work as a single machine or within an area;
- establishing the number of temperature/humidity probes;
2) checking that each machine communicates with its own control panel;
3) programming single or group operation;
4) programming manual or automatic operation;
5) programming the time slots in the event of automatic operation;
6) setting the temperature/humidity sensor on the selected parameter;
7) programming a limit for the aforementioned parameter;
8) programming the type of operation:
- Cool;
- Fan;
- Exhaust;
- Clean
9) sending the on-off command
10) checking any protections.

Level and Temperature/Humidity sensors
LEVEL SENSOR
Each BCF231 cooler, regardless of the configuration it will assume inside the system, must
have its own water level sensor. This sensor provides information on the amount of water
present in each machine:
1) tank empty;
2) tank half-full;
3) tank full.
On the control panel, by accessing the page dedicated to every single cooler, it is possible to
find a graphic representation of the water level inside it.
TEMPERATURE/HUMIDITY SENSOR
The units that will be configured as single or master of an area must be equipped with the
temperature/humidity sensor which is essential for their management. For slave units the
latter is not required but its use is in any case recommended, in order to maintain the option
of changing the system configuration in the future.
The sensor reads the temperature and humidity and it is up to the user to choose which of
the two parameters to use for the operation of the cooler, through the relevant drop-down
Page
03
Level and Temperature/Humidity sensors
menu. Once the reference parameter has been selected, the target will refer to the latter. In
particular, the cooler will remain active until the set temperature or humidity is reached and
will then go into standby immediately afterwards. If the temperature or humidity deviate from
the target, the cooler will be reactivated again, restoring the conditions prior to standby.
SHARED SENSOR
Each unit belonging to one of the 4 configurable areas shares the same
temperature/humidity sensor connected to the cooler defined as “Master in the area and
determines its status. All other coolers assigned to the same area are defined as “Slave
coolers and copy the behaviour of the master cooler. The area master or area slave status is
assigned through the drop-down menu of the temperature/humidity sensor, in particular by
setting the sensor as:
- Local Temperature …. . to define the Master cooler;
- Local Humidity” ……… . to define the Master cooler;
- Area Temperature.. to define the Slave cooler;
- Area Humidity ……….. to define the Slave cooler.

Hardware Set-Up
Hardware Set-Up
Through document BCF231_Configuration_V1 it is possible to create a mapping of the plant
that will be implemented by ticking the boxes prepared for the individual items, to define:
1) The type of machine to be installed;
2) Single or Area Operating Mode;
3) In the case of Area mode, which one;
4) If it is a Master or Slave Area;
5) With or without temperature/humidity sensor.
During installation it is advisable to set up a panel fitted with a circuit breaker at the base of
each cooler, to ensure the electrical safety of the device and facilitate maintenance
operations.
To minimise the length of the RS485 connection cable, a serial connection is recommended.
The electronic unit of each cooler is equipped with two ports for the serial line, to facilitate
this type of installation. The ports are fully interchangeable, both can be used as an input or
as an output from the cooler.
CABLE SPECIFICATIONS FOR RS485 SERIAL CONNECTION
It is particularly important for the correct operation of the system to make sure that the cable
chosen for the serial connection between the control panel and the coolers meets the project
specifications, otherwise it will not be possible to guarantee correct system operation.
In particular, the cable must be suitable for transmitting signals and commands for the
interconnection of instrumentation and control systems with digital signal transmission in
outdoor environments, requiring greater protection against electromagnetic (copper braid)
and electrostatic (aluminium/polyester tape) interferences.

Hardware Configuration
Hardware Configuration
Each cooler must be assigned a progressive number from 1 to 31, this allows the system to
identify it and it is a crucial procedure. It is good practice to assign the coolers the number
corresponding to their position in the communication serial, this facilitates their identification
and helps to speed up the system. In the document BCF231_Configuration_V1 the position
of the dip-switches A0 and A1 is represented graphically for each cooler from No. 1 to No.
31. In a similar manner, the document presents the standard configuration for the T-
termination resistors, which involves their insertion only in the first and last machine of the
system. However, the final configuration must be verified in the field because a lot depends
on the type of cable used, its length and the number of machines in the plant.
Once the machines have been positioned, after having connected the water inlet and outlet
and the wiring of the power supply line and serial connection, it is advisable to proceed as
follows:
1) Connect machine No. 1 to the panel via the serial connection;
2) Power the panel and machine No. 1;
3) Log in to the panel by entering:
- “User Name” followed by “Enter”;
- “Password” followed by “Enter”;
- Select the desired language;
Page 07
Hardware Configuration
- Press the Home icon that appears at the bottom right to access the system.
- The first page accessed is called the Home page
4) From the Home page access the Configuration page to set the number of machines
in the system. To do this, click on the machines in the system that from grey will turn
blue. This step is extremely important because the scanning of the plant by the
control panel will only include the machines declared present. Machines that are not
declared as present will therefore be ignored by the system;
Page
08
Hardware Configuration
5) Go back to the Home page and check that the system recognises machine No. 1
correctly. (All the machines indicated as present will be white except for No. 1 which
will be light grey to indicate the fact that it is present but not configured).
6) Power machine No. 2, connect the serial line and check that it changes state on the
Main page;
7) Proceed in the same way for all the machines present.
This way of proceeding in steps allows problems on the communication line or on some
machines to be identified immediately, isolating the problem. The simultaneous activation of
the entire system, even if manageable by the system, requires a lot of time for
troubleshooting in the event of problems.
It is advisable to pay particular attention to the polarity of the contacts of the serial line, on
the panel and on the single machines, and to ensure that the cables are firmly inserted in the
terminals.
When configuring the hardware, check that the control panel shows the correct time, if this is
not the case, click on the arrow at the bottom right, select System Settings, enter the
password and access the Time/Date page to set the correct date and time.

Plant Configuration
Using the previously completed document BCF231_Configuration_V1 as a guide, assign
each machine its own setting as follows:
Single Machine Configuration:
1) In the relevant drop-down menu select “Single”;
Set the reference parameter (Temperature or Humidity) and the Target. Since it is a
single machine, the parameters will be of the “Local type;
Page
10
Plant Configuration
2) Set Automatic” or “Manual” operation and in the first case also set the operating
time slots, by defining a switch-on time and a switch-off time for each day of the
week. The cooler will be active within the time slot, while it will be in Standby outside
the time slot.
3) Set a function;
4) Set the fan rotation speed;
5) Turn on the machine.
Area Machine Configuration:
When configuring an area it is good practice to start from the Master machine as follows:
1) In the relevant drop-down menu select “Area 1” or “Area 2” or “Area 3” or “Area 4”;
2) Set the reference parameter (Temperature or Humidity) and the Target. Since it is
the Master machine, the parameters will be of the “Local” type;
3) SetAutomatic or “Manual” operation and in the first case also set the operating
time slots, by defining a switch-on time and a switch-off time for each day of the
week. The cooler will be active within the time slot, while it will be in Standby outside
the time slot and so will all the Area slave coolers.

Turn on the machine.
Proceed as follows to configure the Slave machines
1) In the relevant drop-down menu select “Area 1” or “Area 2” or “Area 3” or “Area 4”;
2) Set the reference parameter (Temperature or Humidity). Since it is an Area but
Slave machine, the parameters will be of the “Area” type;
Since they are Slave machines, the other parameters will be inherited from the Area Master
machine
Important Note:
If a machine needs to be released from an “Area to be assigned to another “Area”, it must
first be “Uninstalled”, and only subsequently configured as a “Slave” machine of the new
area. Once the operation is complete, access the single menu of the “Master” of the new
Master” and reset the on and off times.
