Palm Bluetooth Card

The Palm Bluetooth Card allows you to wirelessly connect your handheld to devices enabled with Bluetooth technology, including other Palm handhelds, mobile phones, wireless local area network (LAN) access points, laptop computers, and printers.

You can use the Bluetooth Card to do the following:

  • Access the Internet
  • Check and send e-mail
  • Chat with other users
  • Collaborate on whiteboard drawings
  • Send and receive SMS (Short Messaging Service) messages
  • Send data to other users
  • Dial telephone numbers from your Address Book
  • Print information from applications that support the Send function, such as Address Book or Datebook

The Palm
Bluetooth Card
The Palm™ Bluetooth Card allows you to wirelessly connect your handheld to
devices enabled with Bluetooth technology, including other Palm™ handhelds,
mobile phones, wireless local area network (LAN) access points, laptop
computers, and printers.
You can use the Bluetooth Card to do the following:
Access the Internet
Check and send e-mail
Chat with other users
Collaborate on whiteboard drawings
Send and receive SMS (Short Messaging Service) messages
Send data to other users
Dial telephone numbers from your Address Book
Print information from applications that support the Send function, such as
Address Book or Datebook
Perform wireless HotSync
®
operations
NOTE Use of specific Bluetooth Card features may require certain prerequisites on the
part of the user. For example, to access the Internet via a mobile phone, the user must
have an Internet Service Provider (ISP) and a cellular phone provider that supports data
services. Likewise, only GSM mobile phones support Address Book dialing. See the
electronic Handbook included on the CD-ROM for specific prerequisites for each
Bluetooth Card feature.

Installing the software
To use the Bluetooth Card with your handheld, you must install the software files
located on the CD-ROM.
IMPORTANT You must install the software files first, before inserting the
Bluetooth Card in the handheld. Otherwise, the card will not function properly.
To install the software (Windows):
1. Insert the CD-ROM into your computer’s CD-ROM drive. A screen pops up
automatically.
2. (Optional) If you have the multilingual version of the Bluetooth Card, select
the language you want to install. This must match the language of your
handheld.
3. Select Install Bluetooth and Phone Services, and follow the onscreen
instructions. This installs the following components:
Bluetooth extensions for Palm
®
OS software
Telephony services
SMS (Short Messaging Services)
Collaborative applications
Standard GSM phone driver

4. (Optional) Select Install Web Clipping and/or install Palm WAP Browser and
follow the onscreen instructions to install these applications. See the electronic

5. Connect your handheld to the cradle/cable, and press the HotSync
®
button
to install the software to your handheld.
To install the software (Mac):
1. Insert the CD-ROM into the computer’s CD-ROM drive. A screen pops up
automatically.
2. (Optional) If you have the multilingual version of the Bluetooth Card,
double-click the language you want to install. This must match the language
of your handheld.
3. Double-click the Bluetooth installer icon, and follow the onscreen instructions.
This installs the following components:
Bluetooth extensions for Palm
®
OS software
Telephony services
SMS (Short Messaging Services)
Collaborative applications
Standard GSM phone driver

4. (Optional) Double-click the Web Clipping installer and/or the WAP installer
icon, and follow the onscreen instructions to install these applications. The
WAP installer icon installs the Palm WAP Browser. See the electronic Handbook
for information on these components.
5. Connect your handheld to the cradle/cable, and press the HotSync
button
to install the software to your handheld.
Using the card
After you have installed the software files onto your handheld, you can begin
using the Bluetooth Card.

To insert the card:
1. Insert the card in the direction shown by the icon on the back panel of your
handheld. The gold contact pins should face the front of the handheld.
2. Push the card in with your thumb. When you feel the card lock, the card is
properly seated. If you have system sound turned on, you will hear the system
sound.
CAUTION The Bluetooth Card extends slightly. Do not attempt to force the
card in further.

To remove the card:
1. Push lightly against the card with your thumb.
2. When the card releases, you can remove it. If you have system sound turned
on, you will hear the system sound.
CAUTION You must push to release the card before removing it.

Connecting to other devices
The Bluetooth Card enables you to connect with the following types of devices
enabled with Bluetooth technology:
Mobile phone
Wireless LAN access point
Laptop
Palm™ handheld
Details for connecting with each of these devices can be found in the electronic
Handbook. Two of the most common connections are connecting with a phone and
connecting with another Palm handheld to use the BlueBoard application.
To connect with a phone:
1. Tap the Applications icon .
2. Tap the Bluetooth icon .
3. Tap the Bluetooth phone icon under Setup Connections .
4. Follow the onscreen instructions for completing the connection to the phone.

Using the BlueBoard application
With the BlueBoard application, you can use your Palm handheld to collaborate on
whiteboard drawings with other users who have Bluetooth enabled and
BlueBoard installed on their handhelds.

To launch the BlueBoard collaborative application:
1.
Tap the Applications icon .
2.
Tap the BlueBoard icon .
3. Begin drawing in the main screen area, then tap Share to connect with other
users.

instructions on using other Bluetooth collaborative applications.

Bluetooth Card.
FAA Statement
Whenever you use the wireless features of your handheld, please observe the
guidelines or prohibitions on the use of wireless devices in your current location.
For example, when you are on an airplane, do not use your Bluetooth Card at times
when government or airline regulations prohibit the use of mobile phones. You
can, of course, use all other applications on your handheld in accordance with
airline regulations for electronic devices.

O cartão Bluetooth Palm™ permite a conexão remota do computador de mão com

OBSERVAÇÃO O uso dos recursos específicos do cartão Bluetooth poderá exigir
certos pré-requisitos do usuário. Por exemplo, para acessar a Internet através de um

Instalação do software

Para inserir o cartão:

computador de mão. Os pinos dourados devem ficar voltados para a frente do
computador de mão.
2. Empurre o cartão com o polegar. Quando o cartão travar, significa que ele
estará encaixado corretamente. Você deve ouvir um som, se o som do sistema
estiver ativado.
