IN TRO DUC TION:Field re ports have been re ceived of air craft land ing af ter flights at high al ti tude where

fuel tank caps are very dif fi cult to re move for re fu el ing pur poses. This is sus pected to

be caused by vac uum form ing be tween the filler cap and the flap per door as sem bly in

the fuel cap adapter as sem bly.

To elimi nate this con di tion, it is author ized to re move the O’r ing from the lower seal ing

surface of the adapter as sem bly if de sired.

IN STRUC TIONS:

NOTE

This pro ce dure is at the dis cre tion of the air craft owner if symp toms de scribed above have been

ex pe ri enced.

1. This pro ce dure should not be at tempted when fuel tanks are more than 3/4 full.

2. Re move fuel tank filler cap as sem bly; leave at tached to lan yard.

3. Push flap per door as sem bly down and wedge it in the open po si tion with any suit able non- m etallic item. Place

re strait on wedge used so that it can be re cov ered if dropped in side tank.

4. Us ing a sharp, curved pick, ie., den tal tool, or simi lar de vice re move O’r ing that is in s talled in a groove on the

bot tom sur face of the adapter as sem bly (Re fer to Fig ure SIM20- 84-1).

BE CARE FUL THAT THE RE MOVED O’R ING DOES NOT FALL DOWN INTO THE FUEL TANK.

5. Re peat steps 1. through 4. on other tank.

6. Re- install fuel filler cap as sem bly on both tanks

7. En ter com pli ance data into air craft log book and re turn air craft to serv ice.
