4’ x 8’ Privacy Gate Fence
The following instructions will provide you a simple
step by step guide on assembling your new gate.
Please read assembly instructions completely
before beginning. Always wear protective goggles
and gloves when assembling the gate.
Tools needed:
Drill
1/8” drill bit
Screw driver
Ratchet
5/16” socket
Rubber mallet
PVC Vinyl Fence Cement (order online #125945)
Your privacy gate was designed to be simple to
assemble. The gate blocks keep the gate square.
The gate blocks have been pre-installed into the posts
for you as shown in the picture to the right.
Assembly
If you are working on concrete or other ruff surface put
a piece of cardboard down to protect the rails and
posts from becoming scratched or dented with small
hard objects.
1) Lay the posts down so the holes face up.
Place the u-channel in between holes.
Make sure the u-channel does not extend
into the hole. Line the u-channel up with
the center of the holes (Detail A). Drill a
1/8” hole half way between the post holes
through the U-channel and post. Install a screw. Drill 2 additional holes each half way between the center
hole and the end of the u-channel. Install the 2 screws in the u-channel, do not over tighten.
2) Lay one of the posts on a solid surface with the holes facing up. Removing the sharp corners on the ends
of the rails with a file or sandpaper will help with installing the rails. Insert both rails all the way into the
post and gate blocks keeping the rails square to the post.
3) Start a 1 x 8 picket into the ends of the rails with the groove side down. Slide the picket all the way down
and into the u-channel. Continue with the rest of the 1 x 8 pickets making sure the groove side is down.
4) Start the other post onto the rails. Slowly work the post onto the rails. Placing a cloth on the post where
tapping will help prevent scuffing the post if using the mallet. As the post is pressed onto the rails, make
sure the u-channel is on the outside of the 1 x 8 picket. Continue until the bottom of the u-channel is
against the tongue of the picket. The gate should measure no more than 48 7/8” wide. If the gate is wider
than this, check to make sure the pickets are inside the u-channel. The u-channel could have folded under
the picket and is holding it up.
5) Working at the top and bottom of the post, place the timber screw in the center of the gate block and start
by hand. Using the 5/16” socket and ratchet, screw the timber screw into the gate block and rails. Stop
when the head of the screw is against the gate block. Continuing to tighten will pull the head into the gate
block.
6) Place PVC cement on the inside at the top of the post and install caps.
7) Attach hinges and latches. Do not overtighten screws as it will strip out the PVC post.
