Important Notice
Thank you for purchasing a Panasonic Microwave Oven.
Your oven is rated ‘E’, which is very efcient. It is therefore very important that you refer carefully
to the packet instructions on convenience foods.
Some packet instructions only display information for B or D rated ovens. We therefore provide
additional guidelines for reheating and cooking on pages 33-42 of this book.
ALWAYS check the progress of the food as it cooks or reheats by simply opening the door. After
checking the progress of the foods, press START to continue the cooking time.
Failure to follow the instructions given in this Operating Instructions and Cookbook,
may affect the recipe result and in some instances may be dangerous.

Important safety instructions. Before
operating this oven, please read these
instructions carefully and keep for future
reference.
This appliance can be used by children
aged from 8 years and above and persons
with reduced physical, sensory and
mental capabilities or lack of experience
and knowledge if they have been given
supervision or instruction by a person
responsible for their safety concerning the
use of the appliance in a safe way and
understand the hazards involved. Children
shall not play with the appliance. Cleaning
and user maintenance shall not be made
by children without supervision. Keep the
appliance and its cord out of reach of
children less than 8 years.
When this oven is installed, it should
be easy to isolate the appliance from the
electricity supply by pulling out the plug or
operating a circuit breaker.
If the supply cord is damaged, it must be
replaced by the manufacturer or its service
agent or a similarly qualied person in order
to avoid a hazard.
Warning! The appliance should be
inspected for damage to the door seals
and door seal areas and if these areas
are damaged the appliance should not
be operated until it has been repaired
by a service technician trained by the
manufacturer.
Warning! Do not attempt to tamper with
or make any adjustments or repairs to the
door, control panel housing, safety interlock
switches or any other part of the oven. Do
not remove the outer panel from the oven
which gives protection against exposure to
microwave energy. Repairs should only be by
a quali ed service person.
Warning! Do not place this oven near an
electric or gas cooker range.
Warning! Only allow children to use the
oven without supervision when adequate
instructions have been given so that the child
is able to use the oven in a safe way and
understands the hazards of improper use.
This oven is intended for Counter-top use
only. It is not intended for built-in use or use
inside a cupboard.
For countertop use:
Allow 15 cm of space on the top of the oven,
10 cm at the back, 5 cm on one side, and the
other side must be opened more than 40 cm.
When heating food in plastic or paper
containers, check the oven frequently as
these types of containers ignite if overheated.
If smoke is emitted or a re occurs in the
oven, press Stop/Cancel button and leave
the door closed in order to stie any ames.
Disconnect the power cord, or shut off
power at fuse or circuit breaker panel.
When heating liquids, e.g. soup, sauces
and beverages in your oven, overheating the
liquid beyond boiling point can occur without
evidence of bubbling. This could result in a
sudden boil over of the hot liquid.
The contents of feeding bottles and baby
food jars are to be stirred or shaken. The
temperature has to be checked before
consumption to avoid burns.
Do not cook eggs in their shells and whole
hard-boiled eggs by MICROWAVE. Pressure
may build up and the eggs may explode,
even after the microwave heating has ended.
Clean the inside of the oven, door seals
and door seal areas regularly. When food
splatters or spilled liquids adhere to the oven
walls, door seals and door seal areas wipe
off with a damp cloth. Mild detergent may be
used if they get very dirty.
The use of harsh detergent or abrasive
is not recommended. DO NOT USE
COMMERCIAL OVEN CLEANERS.
Failure to maintain the oven in a clean
condition could lead to deterioration of surfaces
that could affect the life of the appliance and
possibly result in a hazardous situation.
Only use utensils that are suitable for use in
microwave ovens.
The microwave oven is intended for heating
food and beverages only. Drying of food,
newspapers or clothing and heating of
warming pads, slippers, sponges, damp cloth,
wheat bags, hot water bottles and similar may
lead to risk of injury, ignition or re.
Take care when heating foods low in
moisture, e.g. bread items, chocolate,
biscuits and pastries. These can easily burn,
dry out or catch on re if cooked too long.
We do not recommend heating foods low in
moisture such as popcorn or poppodums.

'isconnect the power cord, or shut off the
power at the fuse.
Short Cooking Times
$s microwave cooking times are much
shorter than other cooking methods it is
essentiaO that recommended cooking times
are not e[ceeded without Àrst checking the
food.
&ooking times given in the cookbook
are appro[imate. )actors that may affect
cooking times are preferred degree of
cooking, starting temperature, aOtitude,
voOume, size and shape of foods and
utensiOs used. $s you become famiOiar with
the oven, you wiOO be abOe to adMust these
factors.
,t is better to undercook rather than
overcook foods. ,f food is undercooked,
it can aOways be returned to the oven for
further cooking. ,f food is overcooked,
nothing can be done. $Oways start with
minimum cooking times.
Important
If the recommended cooking times are
exceeded the food will be spoiled and
in extreme circumstances could catch
Àre and possibly damage the interior of
the oven.
Small quantities of food
Take care when heating smaOO Tuantities
of food as these can easiOy burn, dry out
or catch Àre if cooked too Oong. $Oways set
short cooking times and check the food
freTuentOy.
NEVER OPERATE THE OVEN WITHOUT
FOOD INSIDE.
Foods low in moisture
Take care when heating foods Oow in
moisture, e.g. bread items, chocoOate,
popcorn, biscuits and pastries. These can
easiOy burn, dry out or catch on Àre if cooked
too Oong.
:e do not recommend heating foods Oow in
moisture such as popcorn or poppadoms.
The oven has been deveOoped for food use.
:e do not recommend that it is used for
heating non food items such as wheat bags
or hot water bottOes.
Christmas Pudding
&hristmas puddings and other foods high in
fats or sugar, eg. Mam, mince pies, must not
be over heated. These foods must never be
Oeft unattended as with over cooking these
foods can ignite.
Boiled Eggs
Eggs in their sheOO and whoOe hard boiOed
eggs shouOd not be heated in microwave
ovens since they may e[pOode even after
microwave heating has ended.
Foods with Skins
Potatoes, appOes, egg yoOk, whoOe
vegetabOes and sausages are e[ampOes
of food with non porous skins. These must
be pierced using a fork before cooking to
prevent bursting.
WARNING!
/iTuids and other foods must not be
heated in seaOed containers since they are
OiabOe to e[pOode.
Important information – read carefully

Liquids
:hen heating OiTuids, e.g. soup, sauces
and beverages in your microwave oven,
overheating the OiTuid beyond boiOing point
can occur without evidence of bubbOing.
This couOd resuOt in a sudden boiO over of
the hot OiTuid. To prevent this possibiOity the
foOOowing steps shouOd be taken
a $void using straightsided containers
with narrow necks.
b 'o not overheat.
c 6tir the OiTuid before pOacing the
container in the oven and again
haOfway through the heating time.
d $fter heating, aOOow to stand in the
oven for a short time, stirring
again before carefuOOy removing the
container.
e Microwave heating of beverages can
resuOt in deOayed eruptive boiOing,
therefore care shouOd be taken when
handOing the container.
Lids
$Oways remove the Oids of Mars and
containers and takeaway food containers
before you microwave them. ,f you donҋt
then steam and pressure might buiOd up
inside and cause an e[pOosion even after
the microwave cooking has stopped.
Deep Fat Frying
'o not attempt to deep fat fry in your oven.
Meat Thermometer
8se a meat thermometer to check the
degree of cooking of Moints and pouOtry onOy
when meat has been removed from the
microwave. ,f undercooked, return to the
oven and cook for a few more minutes at
the recommended power OeveO. 'o not Oeave
a conventionaO meat thermometer in the
oven when microwaving.
Paper, Plastic
:hen heating food in pOastic or paper
containers keep an eye on the oven due to
the possibiOity of ignition. 'o not use wire
twistties with roasting bags as arcing wiOO
occur. 'o not use recycOed paper products,
e.g. kitchen roOO unOess they say they are
speciÀcaOOy designed for use in a microwave
oven. These products contain impurities
which may cause sparks andor Àres when
used.
Reheating
,t is essentiaO that reheated food is served
´piping hotµ. Remove the food from the oven
and check that it is ´piping hotµ, i.e. steam is
being emitted from aOO parts and any sauce
is bubbOing. ,f you wish you may choose
to check the food has reached 75Ý& with a
food thermometer ² but remember do not
use this thermometer inside the microwave.
For foods that cannot be stirred, e.g.
Oasagne, shepherds pie, the centre shouOd
be cut with a knife to test it is weOO heated
through. Even if a manufacturerҋs packet
instructions have been foOOowed aOways
check the food is piping hot before serving
and if in doubt return your food to the oven

Standing Time
6tanding time refers to the period at the
end of cooking or reheating when food is
Oeft before being eaten, i.e. it is a rest time
which aOOows the heat in the food to continue
to conduct to the centre, thus eOiminating
coOd spots.
Keeping Your Oven Clean
,t is essentiaO for the safe operation of the
oven that it is wiped out reguOarOy. 8se warm
soapy water, sTueeze the cOoth out weOO
and use to remove any grease or food from
the interior. Pay particuOar attention to the
door seaO area and aOso the areas around
the microwave feed guide situated on the
right hand side of the cavity waOO. The oven
shouOd be unpOugged when cOeaning.

Microwaving principles
Magnetron
Oven Cavity
Turntable
Waveguide
Microwave energy has been used in this
country to cook and reheat food since earOy
e[periments with radar in :orOd :ar ,,.
Microwaves are present in the
atmosphere aOO the time, both naturaOOy
and from manmade sources. Manmade
sources incOude radar, radio, teOevision,
teOecommunication Oinks and mobiOe
phones.
,n a microwave oven, eOectricity is converted
into microwaves by the MAGNETRON.
How Microwaves cook food
The microwaves cause the water moOecuOes
to vibrate which causes FRICTION, i.e.
HEAT. This heat then cooks the food.
Microwaves are aOso attracted to fat and
sugar particOes, and foods high in these wiOO
cook more TuickOy. Microwaves can onOy
penetrate to a depth of 5 cm 1ô ²
inches and as heat spreads through the
food by conduction, Must as in a traditionaO
oven, the food cooks from the outside
inwards.
Important notes
The dish used to cook or reheat the food
wiOO get warm during cooking, as the
heat conducts from the food. Even in
microwaving, oven gOoves are reTuired
MICROWAVES CANNOT PASS
THROUGH META/ AND THERE FORE
META/ COOKING UTEN SI/S CAN
NEVER BE USED IN A MICROWAVE,
FOR COOKING ON MICROWAVE ON/Y.
ReÅection
The microwaves bounce off the metaO waOOs
and the metaO door screen.
Transmission
Then they pass through the cooking
containers to be absorbed by the water
moOecuOes in the food, aOO foods contain
water to a more or Oesser e[tent.
Foods Not Suitable for Cooking by
Microwave Only
Yorkshire Puddings and 6oufÁes. This is
because these foods reOy on dry e[ternaO
heat to cook correctOy, do not attempt to
cook by micro wave.
Foods that reTuire deep fat frying cannot be
cooked either.
Standing Time

Standing time
'ense foods e.g. meat, Macket potatoes and
cakes, reTuire a STANDING TIME inside or
outside of the oven after cook ing, to aOOow
heat to Ànish con ducting to cook the centre
compOeteOy.
Jacket Potato
Stand for 5 mins. wrapped in aluminium foil
after cooking by microwave only.
Fish
Stand for 2-3 mins.
Egg Dishes
Stand for 1-2 mins.
Precooked Convenience Food
Stand for 1-2 mins.
Plated Meals
Stand for 2-3 mins.
Vegetables
)oiled potatoes beneÄt from standing for
1-2 mins, however most other types of
vegetables can be served immediately.
If food is not cooked after STANDING
TIME, return to oven and cook for
additional time.
Defrosting
It is essential to allow standing time to
com plete the process. This can vary from 5
mins e.g. raspberries, to up to 1 hour for a
joint of meat. See pages 19-21.
Moisture content
Many fresh foods e.g.
vegetabOes and fruit, vary
in their moisture content
throughout the season,
particuOarOy Macket potatoes.
For this reason cooking times
may have to be adMusted. 'ry
ingredients e.g. rice, pasta,
can dry out during storage so
cooking times may differ.
Cling Älm
&Oing ÀOm heOps keep the food
moist and the trapped steam
assists in speeding up cooking
times. Pierce before cooking
to aOOow e[cess steam to
escape. AOways take care when
removing cOing ÀOm from a dish
as the buiOdup of steam wiOO be
very hot.
Piercing
The skin or membrane on
some foods wiOO cause steam to
buiOd up during cooking. These
foods must be pierced or a
strip of skin shouOd be peeOed
off before cooking to aOOow
the steam to es cape. Eggs,
potatoes, appOes, sausages
etc, wiOO aOO need to be pierced
before cooking. 'O 1OT

General guidelines
Dish size
FoOOow the dish sizes given in
the recipes, as these affect the
cook ing and reheating times.
A Tuan tity of food spread in a
bigger dish cooks and reheats
more TuickOy.
Quantity
6maOO Tuantities cook faster
than Oarge Tuantities, aOso smaOO
meaOs wiOO reheat more TuickOy
than Oarge portions.
Spacing
Foods cook more TuickOy and
evenOy if spaced apart. 1E9ER
piOe foods on top of each other.
Shape
Even shapes cook evenOy.
Food cooks better by
microwave when in a round
container rather than sTuare.
Density
Porous airy foods heat more
TuickOy than dense heavy
foods.
Covering
&over foods with microwave
cOing ÀOm or a seOfÀtting Oid.
&over Àsh, vegetabOes,
cas seroOes, soups. 'o not
cover cakes, sauces, Macket
potatoes, pastry items.
Arranging
,ndividuaO foods e.g. chicken
portions or chops, shouOd be
pOaced on a dish so that the
thicker parts are to the outside.
Starting temperature
The coOder the food, the Oonger
it takes to heat up. Food from
a fridge takes Oonger to reheat
than food at room temperature.
Food temperature shouOd be
between 5& before cooking.
Turning and stirring
6ome foods reTuire stirring
during cooking. Meat and
pouOtry shouOd be turned after
haOf the cooking time.
Liquids
AOO OiTuids must be stirred
before, during and after
heating. :ater espe ciaOOy must
be stirred before and during
heating, to avoid eruption.
'o not heat OiTuids that have
previousOy been boiOed.
'O 1OT O9ER+EAT.
Checking food
,t is essentiaO that food is
checked during and after a
recommended cooking time,
even if an AUTO PROGRAM
has been used Must as you
wouOd check food cooked in a
conven tionaO oven. Return
the food to the oven for further
cooking if necessary.
Cleaning
As microwaves work on food
particOes, keep your oven cOean
at aOO times. :ipe with a soft
damp cOoth, aOways wipe the
oven dry after cOeaning. Avoid
any pOastic parts, the roof of the
oven and door area.
